Just bought that cottage shirt pattern. Anxious to shop for fabric. Was hoping to find something for fall.. loved your video.
thanks! you're going to love this shirt! I can't wait to make another one.
Thanks for the laugh Gini! Love your genuineness. I look forward to your videos every week. Great ideas, info and motivation. :-)
The thing I'm always so impressed by is your precision with sewing. All the corners are crisp, all the edges are perfect. And thank you so very much for the rabbit hole I just went down looking for Claire Shaeffer's book and the Islander Sewing Method. No purchases as yet but the seed is planted and now that will be rattling around in my brain for the foreseeable future. Great. Stop putting these ideas in my head! Probably I'll pull the trigger the next time I get in trouble. Which, btw, although I would never wish having to tear out seams on any sewing friend, I'm glad I'm not the only one! Looking forward to the Atelier coming soon - yet another beautiful thing that will come from your sewing room -
Thanks Jen!
Love this top and nothing wrong wearing it with those pants.
Very nice shirt! Thanks Gini
thanks for this review. Also I love your theme music, so retro!
I love a lot of The Sewing Workshop patterns but have never tried them. This makes me want to go look at them again.
You should! She has a lot of good shirts!
Oh, isn't sewing just so FUN sometimes? 😏🤬😉 Really nice result!
Beautiful shirt, Gini! 🤩 The pins in the yoke story cracked me up! I sewed a point turner inside a pouch, once! 😂💜
😂 😂 😂
Did you make a longer version? Would love to see it 🪡
NO!! and I totally forgot about that idea until you left this message now it's back on my to-do list!!
@@thebigsewalong woo hoo. Can't wait to see what you do.
Hi, I enjoy your sewing channel. You provide a lot of great instruction. Do you plan to do more "sew alongs"?
Yes definitely just taking a short break from them while I sort out what to do for fall. If there’s something you’d like to see I’d welcome the suggestion!
Islander Sewing has a RUclips channel and shows the burrito method. The Every Bodies shirt has a great explanation of that technique.
Gina, what is the pattern for the dropped crotch pants? Thanks for all your great videos. Love The Sewing Workshop patterns.
I have never been a fan of any burrito method; probably because I can’t visualize it, so I do something wrong. I struggle with the method. So, I love this shirt; I would just do my standard collar band and collar method. I too would want the extra length. I bet it would be cute to add about 6-8 inches! Thank you for the review!
❤❤❤
Hi Gini, can you please explain the difference between “scuba knit”, “scuba neoprene knit”, double knit and ponti knit? I prefer knits that are thicker and not as “slinky” as jerseys. Thank you!
Yes Christine! Thanks for asking I’ll go over these in next weeks video!
I do the safety pin thing too, but I got in the habit of putting it on the right side of the fabric. That makes it accessible after sewing. I realize that it would cause great confusion (possibly a few near disasters) to change your method now, but just an idea. Also, would it work to make the cottage shirt with just the collar stand and not the collar? Would the collar stand need to be hack in any way?
You could definitely do the shirt with just the band and no collar. No hack necessary, just leave the collar off. You know, I’ve thought about changing to the right side of the fabric a million times but I’ve been doing it on the wrong side so long I just know I’d forget! I might try it anyway as I’m not a big fan of having safety pins permanently attached to my garments 😂
Super cute shirt! Did you crochet your top? Also super cute! Thank you!
Thanks Robyn! Yes I crochet my top I just finished it last week so trying to get some wear out of it before we head into fall weather!
