    You got it going on there cuzz. As a fellow Kentuckian I can appreciate the time and effort you put into great detail. Looks like you gutted an already built boat and sat it into yours, I mean the attention to detail is just awesome. In my experience I learned to hate the indoor/outdoor carpet because it was forever grabbing hooks and not letting go. But aside from that, I applaud you for a fine fishing rig. All you need now is a wife that can clean and cook your catch.

    Super job Mark. When in use, I'm sure the pride of knowing you built it must feel great. You can clearly see your heart was in the build.

    MinnKota Terrova is probably the best trolling motor now. It has GPS, Advance Auto-Pilot, Recording track, remote control, and foot control too. It was the best investment I have ever bought. I have it for over 1 year now with over 100+ hour on it and it's still working great.

    What a great build! i had to giggle on the value of the overall completed project! However the mere thought of simply being able to build exactly what you need and the purpose its for could be priceless. you definitely gave this old aluminum hull a new life sir, good job!

    At first, after seeing the heavy materials you used to build this thing I had to ask myself if it was going to float or sink...lol...But your craftsmanship and choice placement as well as the absence of an outboard motor showed me otherwise. I wonder though, if you bothered to water seal that wood because I would be concerned about that. It is 2014 now and I am curious. Great job!

    That is my minnow bucket... It just lays in the boat so that I can keep my minnows alive.. I know I could have used a bubble bucket, but this is what I use in my other boat to keep shad and skip jack alive when I'm trolling for Strippers... It's basically just a rounded cooler with an aerator in it that runs off of 12VDC... I just put a 12V plug in so I could set it in this boat and use it as well, or an occasional spot light at night...

    I cut holes in my bench to attach the front deck supports... I then cut some 2x4s and screwed through the bench and into the 2x4s inside the bench... This gave me some meat to screw my pedastal mount into, after I put plywood on my for deck and over my bench... I used metal wall anchors to attach the wood to my metal bench seat.

  • @markmoore42420
    @markmoore42420  11 лет назад

    While I was building, someone told me the treatment they use for the lumber would eat a hole in aluminum... I made everything easy to remove in case I ever needed to replace it, but I took a panel off a month ago and they look brand new still... I guess it's because they all sit up so high and don't get wet... The carpet is rubber backed so the water runs off and goes to the bilge where it is pumped out.

  • @markmoore42420

    It sits in the water higher than I expected it to... Very stable to sit and fish... I have stood on the front a few times to fish, but with a 48" wide boat, it's going to be a bit rocky if you move alot... I really have had no issues where I thought I was going to fall out though.

    I really liked it. I am curious to how much run time you get. It isn't exactly to my tastes, but that isn't a negative. I am bass fishing with artificial bait exclusively so I don't need rod holders or live bait access. The only exceptions are for early crappie and sand bass fishing. I wish our lakes would get some kind of hp limit. My regular boat is 16 ft with a 40 and for someone who doesn't fish tournaments, it is fine. Unfortunately, we will never see hp limitations here. There is just too much water and just here in town we have Bass Pro Shops, Lawrence Electronics, and Zebco, so as long as there is big fishing money there will be big boats.

    The entire portion under my front deck is all storage, accessable through the hatch... I wish I had put in a bigger hatch, but I guess I was afraid it would collapse if I walked on it... I may have to lay down to grab something that has shifted in the large space, but so far I have been able to grab everything... I also put some foam padding (like you stand on) for sound insulation for the stuff I put in the hatch.

    I have never used a Terrova, but I do use a Power Drive and Power Drive 2... I love the composite shaft and the prop is really tough... I have beat mine agains logs and stumps more than a few times and it just bounces back for more... I am a big fan of MinnKota trolling motors

  • @markmoore42420
    @markmoore42420  13 лет назад

    @1996TheRocketman
    I put the 2x4 frame in, then put the floor down on top... I left just enough space for a piece of plywood to stand up the same height as the front of the original metal seat... Since the seat was sloped to the center of the boat, it's the only way I could figure out how to make it level.... I then just basically bullt an L out of two pieces of plywood... The top is the size of the upper portion, and the other part of the L just gives me the rise to even it out...

  • @markmoore42420
    @markmoore42420  13 лет назад

    @dalehughes3
    It's not much weight at all... I only have (2) 8FT 2x4s and 1 sheet of 1/2"plywood... The batteries don't weight much more than an outboard and I compensated the weight distribution by moving my front seat slightly foward... I figured if I kept most of the heavy weight down below the top of the boat, it would be pretty stable which it is... I had my 285+ butt, my brothers 265+ butt and all our gear, including a full of ice cooler in the boat... it floats great.

  • @markmoore42420
    @markmoore42420  13 лет назад

    @xXcam0manXx
    I stand on mine... You can't do too much side to side moving, but it's as stable as a 48" wide boat can be I guess... I wanted something that was small, didn't set in the water too much so I could get in shallow... This boat works great for that and I have all the electronic things I have on my Bass Tracker.... I love it.

    Thanks... The electrical is pretty easy.... all basic wiring... You just have to decide to start one day and take it a step at a time... I had no idea how to do any of it, I just look a lot at other peoples ideas and combined them all together with mine... I didn't even know if it would float, but I tried to keep the weight down as much as possible and keep it as balanced as I could... When I put it in the water for the first time.

    Thanks... Sorry I have been off for a while.
    I don't plan on getting an outboard for it... I already have a bass tracker with a 70HP Johnson on it... I got ran out of a really good lake that you can't have an outboard, so that is why I built this boat.
    The hatches I got from different places... One I got online at iboats.com... I believe the other I got at bass pro or cabellas... iboats has alot of neat stuff, you just have to sort through all the items they have.

    I live in MA. We have over 1200 lakes LISTED on our state fisheries and wildlife database but easily 3-400 more unlisted...but our top 3 largest natural lakes are 2200, 1800, and 1500 acres with only a few more over 1000 acres. We have incredible small ponds that get fed with loads of herring from the sea so these types of boats are generally the best to own. Most have 3hp limits. This video rly will help me w/ my mod and its beautiful. I assume ur not fishing bass tho (#of rod holders)

  • @markmoore42420
    @markmoore42420  11 лет назад

    I run on 2 batteries at a time... Honestly I've never had to switch over... I just wanted to make sure that I had enough battery to get there, and two more to get back... I know it's probably over kill, but I sure don't want to row back, some of the lakes I go to are pretty big. I run about 4MPH by my GPS, but rarely run wide open unless there is bad weather coming.

    Awesome boat!! I'm getting tons of ideas on RUclips for my first boat. I can't afford to buy a Bass Tracker so I'm looking into moding a Topper. Did your trailer come with the boat? If not who sells those type of trailers? Also, why did you have four batteries in the back? I didn't see any type of electrical outboard motor. Wouldn't that much weight be overkill when a single battery could power a trolling motor and depth finder? Keep up the good work.

    It is super stable... I've had me (290lbs) & my brother (260lbs), a bait tank full of water, cooler, tackle boxes and rods in the boat and it sits fine in the water and is very stable... Trick is to get most of your weight on the bottom... that's why the person in the back is basically sitting on the bench seat... I will have to take some pictures of it loaded in the water and me standing on the front... LOL.. you will be shocked how stable it is.

I get bored if I'm not doing something and this happened to be my release at the time... I know I paid $900 for the boat, $750 for the trailer, $750 for the trolling motor and probably another 8-9 hundred for the parts... Way more than I could ever get out of it if I wanted to sell it, but I didn't plan on ever selling it...

I'm 6'2" and 250 lbs. By the time I put myself +1 or two in my 14' J-boat .....Let me just say that although this was an awesome job, I'd be really worried about getting caught out in rough weather...
