Ramza fights against the true threat and wins but his name is forgotten to history. I think its well shown by his last quote "ramza, this is what i got, what did you get?" The counterweight system is true. Delita plays "the game" and wins because he has no faith in humanity. Ramza goes against the system precisely because of his faith in humanity.
What’s really shocking to me is we didn’t get a prequel to this game with Barbanth and TG Cid in their prime. Maybe a young Dycedarg and baby Zalbaag. Maybe even have Delitas father or mother be close or in the party of those mentioned above. But when it comes to the character balance you mentioned I agree 100%
The scope of the project, the unique formula for the system and gameplay, and the fact that the story hits notes of straight up philosophy and existentialism make this one of the best games ever made imoz

I still complete this game every year along with tactics ogre... FFT is by far one of the greatest FF games. Hard to compare it to one of the numbered entries in the franchise but it's the only one that I can play through over and over. Please... FFT2, a true sequel or even a second entry with a different story. I just need more of this

In FFXIV there is a raid series that involves Ivalice. Weirdly enough, in the end of the series, it was revealed that Alma survived and was impregnated by Orran before his execution to carry on his bloodline.
I wont say underated because everyone who actually knows or has played it praises it. More like underexposed or undermarketed. One of the greatest FF games and my favorite TRPG
I feel like a lot of people just like the "and then everyone died" Shakespearean ending to everything. Like how people speculate FF8 and Majora's Mask are all about the character dying and having a death dream or something. It seems to be that Ramza, Alma, and Razma's army more or less all survive. Cid's grandson (forget his name, but the one with astrologian powers...Olan?) writes a book that is the true story of events. Because the church and the surviving kingdoms want to restore order, and fear the truth getting out would cause even more chaos with the people outright rejecting the political and religious order, they accuse him of being a heretic and burn him at the stake...so he pretty much dies. But years later, his grandson finds his book and papers, much like how Ramza found the original true account of the Zodiak Braves. The game you play is actually him reading the papers, which you can see if you start a new game as it has him narrating that he found this report and is trying to get the truth out and clear his ancestor, Olan's, name that he wasn't a heretic but was actually the only one telling the truth. I don't remember where, but I remember thinking that somewhere in that side-story it's implied that Ramza (in addition to being the true hero of the story - the church had also branded him AND HIS ARMY heretics, which they probably wouldn't have done if at least some of them hadn't survived, since the branding was to prevent anyone they ran across or any stories they wrote of the truth from being listened to by the public) must have survived. But yeah, the whole story of FFT is actually something that happened 100-200 years before, and you're reading/listening to Olan's great great grandchild read an uncovered lost manuscript written by Olan telling the story. Much like how the Lord of the Rings is supposedly an English translation of the Book of Westmarch written by Bilbo, Frodo, and finished by Sam.
The way this game so ruthlessly depicts the class system, and uses it's rich cultural story to wield a perspective that pierces the individual.. I still think about Weigraf and his struggle with the world he percieves, and the real world he finds himself trapped in. Ultimately, Ramza and the player become the frame of reference who witness weigraf fall to corruption, because we have to remember absolute power corrupts absolutely.
They already said there was a parallel, no need to enumerate everything in my opinion. But also, there are basically only 12 zodiac (excluding Ophiuchus) so it's not like they did that to parallel the 12 disciples. There's no other alternative.
The Zodiac Stones from what I understood are powerful divine artifacts. The origin of the Lucavi seems to be something of a combination of a demonic force imprisoned in the stone and a willing subject who succumbs to that evil. The Zodiac Braves are your hero's of that era and are likely the only individuals that know the truth of what happened, considering that some of their stones end up doing that they did suggest that not all of the Braves...ended well. Also I don't understand the confusion about the ending with Ramza, the game was pretty clear that he and Alma lived. While I would love to see a FFT 2... I don't know how it would really work out, Ramza effectively did his job and disappears to live a quite life.
Yes, Matsuno confirmed that Ramza and his friends survived. Also, a FFT2 does not necessarily have to follow Ramza's story. It could follow the era when Alazlam wants to uncover the lies of the church with a new entire protagonist, or even follow a completely different story, like FFTA but with a theme more similar to FFT.

Note that the Final Fantasy Tactics hacking community has versions for both the PSX and PSP versions that restore the content lost in translation. There's even a project that ports the PSP script over to the PSX version of the game.
Two-Swords isn't required for the duplication glitch. all you need to do, is manually equip a weapon to the off-hand slot, go into "best fit" in the fitting room, and exit out without paying after the "best fit" as long as the shop you are in does not sell a weapon considered "better" than what you are wearing, you can duplicate any main-hand item you are therefore not required to do this at a castle, any shop can be used if the shop you are at does not sell items for the class you are trying to duplicate weapons for (such as a shop not selling Spears) since the "best fit" will default to putting the weapon you already have onto the other hand, this will duplicate the weapon (this can also be used on shields by equipping them to the main hand, since best fit will switch which hand is holding them) There are also exploits/glitches that went unmentioned. The job point scroll glitch can be used to give the player unlimited JP in any job with an ability list which is longer than one page in length. It is possible to Poach enemy corpses repeatedly when they are under water. The fur shop glitch, which appears only in the Japanese version of the game, allows you to unlock every furshop item by entering into the tutorial menu and soft resetting before beginning a new game.
Nothing mention about ff14. FF14 has a event that states have Razma decendants looking for the truth of their ancestors. Their were even boss fights with the Zodiac.
I'm not sure if the FF14 Dalmasca is the same one, technically speaking. I think it's more like an alternate universe version of the same people and place, though.

FFXIV can be thought of more like a kitbash of FF games and their histories rather than like Kingdom Hearts where you go to those ACTUAL places and they're just connected within a single multiverse. If the FFXIV one was the same as the FFXII one, that would mean that Eorzia IS Ivalice, which doesn't really make much sense. The Crystal Tower is also in FFXIV, but it's seen as a relic from a long ago age when the Alagan's ruled, not the same exact one from FF3. That said...then we have Freya, who seems to be the exact same person as in FFXII, so who even knows at this point? XD But I think the "right" way to look at it is that FFXIV is kind of a nexus between worlds, and because of this, it has "echoes" from some of those worlds influence and make near-identical places in its own world.
After 20+ years of begging, bargaining and straight up bribery my brother finally picked up the game he himself gave me back in the day. He hated it then and fought it but finally the other day he confessed it was better than he thought and was enjoying it. Then he ruined it when he told me that he made Ramza an abject coward who can't fight. Blew my mind.
I could be mistaken but I believe FF12 takes place before FFTactics in the same world, which is why Balthier is in it and it explains the airship graveyard at the end of the game.
Balthier was "War of the Lions" exclusive as well. Cloud was the only cross-over in the original. Which should actually be obvious since FF12 came out years after FFTactics. :p
People got upset about Ramza having a nose in a game where the artstyle had noses? Man, they must have had a meltdown when they saw Cloud without a nose in FFT.
Vagrant story was retconned into being part of Ivalice back around when FF12 was coming out. FF12 took a lot of inspiration, particularly in the art design, from Vagrant Story, and the most subtle of references were made, but looking at Vagrant Story on its own merits, it was never intended to be part of FF or Ivalice when it was made, and the stories are far LESS convoluted if you keep it that way
The character Beowulf is directly taken from the Gaetish Folklore of Beowulf, including Wiegraf, for Wiglaf, who is one of Beowulf's friends in the Folklore and comes to Beowulf's defense against the dragon in the tale. However I'm not sure if there's anything deeper in connection, as the character of Wiglaf is to be a loyal and courageous man, were as Wiegraf is quite the opposite.
Reminds me of an obscured FFT fact I learned from someone. If Yasumi Matsuno had left Quest for Square Soft then FFT would've been a direct sequel to Tactics Ogre. Being the 8th chapter in Ogre Battle series storyline
Small correction: Tactics, XII, and Tactics Advance 2 are all set in the real Ivalice world. Tactics Advance is set in an imaginary kingdom called Ivalice and is not currently confimed to be part of the actual Ivalice world.

you think those guys were bad... You should see Red Comet in the Bozjan Southern Front (which is part of Ivalice, or what used to be Ivalice a long time ago) in Final Fantasy 14. I have seen him wipe entire full raid groups of 48 players. He is INSANE, and solidified my forever fear of red chocobos.
The Time mage glitch happens in a few other areas as well wherein a character is replaced with a male time mage despite their designated class or sex. Most notably this happens in the finally fight with Kletian in Death City where he has two male time mage allies that are both supposed to be lancers (and have their skill layouts as if they were lancers) but for some reason they appear as time mages that can’t actually use magic. Most people don’t notice the glitch though as Kletian is often one-shot in that battle ;)
One thing many casual fans of this game don't realize is just how deep the min-maxing can go in this game. Hardcore fans will customize their characters' stats by repeatedly leveling up and then leveling DOWN their characters (through the Level Down status effect that can be applied in some battles). Each job class has different rates at which the stats change with level gains and losses. So, by controlling which job your character is when they level up/down, you can create some truly ridiculous stats. The hacking community has even developed tools that allow you to simulate this leveling process when you edit your save file. Unfortunately, when you manage to max out your party's speed stat, it makes the bard and dancer jobs useless, as those abilities are tied to the battle clock, and not the character's speed. As a result, they never get to perform any actions, as the battle will end before their abilities go off. It should also be mentioned that you can access a 2-player vs mode in the original PSX version using a gameshark!
The funny thing about it is that the creator finished Ramza, Delita, and Alma’s stories In a series of raids in final fantasy 14 I during the storm blood expansion. I encourage everybody to check them out; they are fucking amazing.

this isnt cannon nor even the same ivalice the cataclysm almost entirely wiped out everything to the extent that even Rabenastre or however you spell it isnt even on the map anymore along with killing all civilized species except humes
This iceberg is more of an ice cube. There is no mention of the War of the Roses or the works of Shakespeare. There is no discussion of the backstory of Elidibusor the motives of Zodiark. There is no discussion of the ability of Ramza, Luso, and Alma to learn Ultima, or what might link these three characters. There is no discussion of Altima's accusation that Ramza is descended from Germonique, or the parallel between Ramza's exile/rumored death and Germoniques. There is no in depth discussion of the contrast in outcomes for Delita and Ramza. There is no discussion of delevelling traps and the way players used them to power level characters. There is no discussion of whether OVELIA lives or dies, as this was unknown for decades before Matsuno clarified this as well.
FFTactics is also cannon in FF14, Ivalice was lost to the allegan empire then to the Garleans, but it's history is recovered and the Auracite is a big thing in the Return to Ivalice raids
What no Beserk comparisons? Same story up until the first eclipse in the Beserk storyline. Ramza is Guts Delita is Hawks and the Zodiac stones are the little stones with eyes that turned people into monsters.
One thing I haven’t come across too much is people talking about how much FFT was inspired by BERSERK!!-almost to the point of plagiarism. Good thing I love them both
FFT is one of my favorite games of all time. Surprised you didn't mention the 1.18 version. If a patch applied to the ROM file that ups the enemy AI, opens up normally inaccessible jobs classes, and make TG Cid less OP.
@@AndrewEvenstar its quite a bit harder. I have never finished it. The first chapter is only slightly harder. The enemies are better at using there skills in correct positions. Chapter 2 is a sharp learning curve. The enemies are much smarter and you will die often while trying to get jp.
Where is this 1.18 version? I keep looking around and there is no such mod that allows you to "open up normally inaccessible jobs classes". The only famous mod that I know of that nerfs Thunder God Cidolfus is the wotltweak 2.52 mod
A lot of that is common knowledge. The last one isn't even a fan theory, it's explicitly said in the game. There are also many errors. The BGM Mode IS in the English versions, accessed with the code polkapolka. And that interpretation of the antichrist is a popular one, but it is based on extrabiblical interpretation.
It is a shame they didn't include the lore content from the japanese version. I'd willingly more time listening or reading them than playing other games
I love final fantasy the first one i got was VIII, then i got IX and VI. Tactics didn´t like because of the gameplay, then some time later tried to understand how it works and holy hell amazing game. Final Fantasy XII if had the same gameplay system in term those classes and their skills, would be one of the best FF game ever. The story of tactics is one of the best, if not the best. The only FF can rival tactics in story is type-0. Ramza was cool and a fitting end to Delita. One wanted freedom and another wanted power.
You didn't mention Berserk one time. I'm so sad. Sometimes I feel like the only person on earth that sees the loose parallels between the two. I mean, Casca's outfit is basically the one worn by 90% of all characters in FFT.

@@andrewrenshaw7215 No, what I mean is it's more an "alternate universe". FFXIV can be thought of more like a kitbash of FF games and their histories rather than like Kingdom Hearts where you go to those ACTUAL places and they're just connected within a single multiverse.
If the FFXIV one was the same as the FFXII one, that would mean that Eorzia IS Ivalice, which doesn't really make much sense.
The Crystal Tower is also in FFXIV, but it's seen as a relic from a long ago age when the Alagan's ruled, not the same exact one from FF3.
That said...then we have Freya, who seems to be the exact same person as in FFXII, so who even knows at this point? XD
But I think the "right" way to look at it is that FFXIV is kind of a nexus between worlds, and because of this, it has "echoes" from some of those worlds influence and make near-identical places in its own world.
After 20+ years of begging, bargaining and straight up bribery my brother finally picked up the game he himself gave me back in the day. He hated it then and fought it but finally the other day he confessed it was better than he thought and was enjoying it. Then he ruined it when he told me that he made Ramza an abject coward who can't fight. Blew my mind.
I could be mistaken but I believe FF12 takes place before FFTactics in the same world, which is why Balthier is in it and it explains the airship graveyard at the end of the game.

Balthier was "War of the Lions" exclusive as well. Cloud was the only cross-over in the original. Which should actually be obvious since FF12 came out years after FFTactics. :p

Vagrant story was retconned into being part of Ivalice back around when FF12 was coming out. FF12 took a lot of inspiration, particularly in the art design, from Vagrant Story, and the most subtle of references were made, but looking at Vagrant Story on its own merits, it was never intended to be part of FF or Ivalice when it was made, and the stories are far LESS convoluted if you keep it that way
The character Beowulf is directly taken from the Gaetish Folklore of Beowulf, including Wiegraf, for Wiglaf, who is one of Beowulf's friends in the Folklore and comes to Beowulf's defense against the dragon in the tale. However I'm not sure if there's anything deeper in connection, as the character of Wiglaf is to be a loyal and courageous man, were as Wiegraf is quite the opposite.

Small correction: Tactics, XII, and Tactics Advance 2 are all set in the real Ivalice world. Tactics Advance is set in an imaginary kingdom called Ivalice and is not currently confimed to be part of the actual Ivalice world.

you think those guys were bad... You should see Red Comet in the Bozjan Southern Front (which is part of Ivalice, or what used to be Ivalice a long time ago) in Final Fantasy 14. I have seen him wipe entire full raid groups of 48 players. He is INSANE, and solidified my forever fear of red chocobos.

Ff tactics and the fate of ramza and fellows is kinda resolved in "the legend returns" chapter of ff14. I was very pleased with it tbh.
The Time mage glitch happens in a few other areas as well wherein a character is replaced with a male time mage despite their designated class or sex. Most notably this happens in the finally fight with Kletian in Death City where he has two male time mage allies that are both supposed to be lancers (and have their skill layouts as if they were lancers) but for some reason they appear as time mages that can’t actually use magic. Most people don’t notice the glitch though as Kletian is often one-shot in that battle ;)
I find the duplication of items trick essential for the 2 rare samurai swords draw abilities. Since the chance for the items to break.
Tactics is my favorite solo player game of all time. To this day, I still play it.
One thing many casual fans of this game don't realize is just how deep the min-maxing can go in this game. Hardcore fans will customize their characters' stats by repeatedly leveling up and then leveling DOWN their characters (through the Level Down status effect that can be applied in some battles). Each job class has different rates at which the stats change with level gains and losses. So, by controlling which job your character is when they level up/down, you can create some truly ridiculous stats. The hacking community has even developed tools that allow you to simulate this leveling process when you edit your save file. Unfortunately, when you manage to max out your party's speed stat, it makes the bard and dancer jobs useless, as those abilities are tied to the battle clock, and not the character's speed. As a result, they never get to perform any actions, as the battle will end before their abilities go off.
It should also be mentioned that you can access a 2-player vs mode in the original PSX version using a gameshark!

The funny thing about it is that the creator finished Ramza, Delita, and Alma’s stories In a series of raids in final fantasy 14 I during the storm blood expansion. I encourage everybody to check them out; they are fucking amazing.

Those raids went into the history of FFT and then FF12. The last raid... we get some old friends that show up both as bosses and protectors. AND THEN, THERE'S A CUTSCENE EXPLAINING THE END OF FFT!

This iceberg is more of an ice cube. There is no mention of the War of the Roses or the works of Shakespeare. There is no discussion of the backstory of Elidibusor the motives of Zodiark. There is no discussion of the ability of Ramza, Luso, and Alma to learn Ultima, or what might link these three characters. There is no discussion of Altima's accusation that Ramza is descended from Germonique, or the parallel between Ramza's exile/rumored death and Germoniques. There is no in depth discussion of the contrast in outcomes for Delita and Ramza. There is no discussion of delevelling traps and the way players used them to power level characters. There is no discussion of whether OVELIA lives or dies, as this was unknown for decades before Matsuno clarified this as well.

What no Beserk comparisons? Same story up until the first eclipse in the Beserk storyline. Ramza is Guts Delita is Hawks and the Zodiac stones are the little stones with eyes that turned people into monsters.

@@AndrewEvenstar its quite a bit harder. I have never finished it. The first chapter is only slightly harder. The enemies are better at using there skills in correct positions. Chapter 2 is a sharp learning curve. The enemies are much smarter and you will die often while trying to get jp.

A lot of that is common knowledge. The last one isn't even a fan theory, it's explicitly said in the game. There are also many errors. The BGM Mode IS in the English versions, accessed with the code polkapolka. And that interpretation of the antichrist is a popular one, but it is based on extrabiblical interpretation.
It is a shame they didn't include the lore content from the japanese version. I'd willingly more time listening or reading them than playing other games

I love final fantasy the first one i got was VIII, then i got IX and VI. Tactics didn´t like because of the gameplay, then some time later tried to understand how it works and holy hell amazing game. Final Fantasy XII if had the same gameplay system in term those classes and their skills, would be one of the best FF game ever. The story of tactics is one of the best, if not the best. The only FF can rival tactics in story is type-0. Ramza was cool and a fitting end to Delita. One wanted freedom and another wanted power.
Vagrant Story... there's a deep dive I'd like to see.
