Thank you, bought one from you on ebay for 1998 silverado and it solved the problem. This problem went on for over a year and just continued to get worse until the security light would not go off and the truck would no longer start for more than a second.
I installed one during the dash swap on my OBS Suburban (easier than it sounds,) I did the correct key relearn technique and everything is fine now. I had previously purchased one of those Newrockies bypass modules but never even installed it due to appalling lack of support up front. Now I know better and my factory antitheft system works like it's supposed to.

*WARNING: FIRST LOOK at your KEY! Does it look WORN-OUT with rounded edges? I actually got two IDIOT lights on the dash come on. ENGINE and SECURITY and I read the code as SECURITY KEY ERROR. Simple, my key was worn out and did not push the lock tumblers high enough any longer. I had the Locksmith make me a key that had taller dimensions by shimming the key copying machine. This new key pushed the pins up higher like the old stock key used to and it worked fine after that. $25.00 and FIXED!*

So, if your vehicle starts and then suddenly stalls seconds later, check your security light to see if it blinks (mine did 3 times) then stays on. If this happens, start your vehicle, when it stalls just leave your key forward, this could take ten minutes or so, but wait until your security light turns off. Then turn your key to the off position for 10 seconds, then start it. This will reset your VATS ( vehicle anti theft system ) to recognize your key again. Thiis was on my 99 suburban. Getting a new one made from the dealer would be a good idea once this happens. Hope this helps!
11 min key on, 30 seconds off, repeat 3 times then start it is the correct procedure for a 99.
@@MrTaxiRob my point was when your security light goes off, turn your key to the off position. I only had to do mine once and it worked
@@unitedfirearms1057 my experience was a solid security light, which led to my self diagnosis of the module being bad. I'm not entirely sure but it sounds like your problem is with the key cylinder. If your key is wearing down, do the full relearn procedure and it shouldn't happen again for a long time to come.
I mean, if your key's resistance has changed that much since 1999, logic dictates that it would take that long to flare up again, no? But more than likely the cylinder is going bad. Either way, do it all yourself, bypass the dealer's crazy labor charges. I'm no magician and I've managed to do most of the work myself on this truck, except for the things that require a lift.
@@MrTaxiRob I try and do it all by myself. I failed to mention I had the suburban down because I dropped the tank to replace the fuel pump. I went to advanced or something and it was 260$ so I went online to 1Aauto and got it for 70$. (Partsgeek and rockauto are good sites too) so while having it down and my battery unplugged, I replaced the wiring harness and the fuel pump. Plugging the battery back in and trying to start it I immediately had trouble. It would start, run a few second than stall. I noticed the security light would blink 3 times than stay on. I was using a key that was from Walmart so I started using the actual GM key that came with it. Did the reset and it stopped. I did see about the module going out and you can buy them online from a place and program them or bypass the muddle with a resistor and a wire or something of that nature.
@@MrTaxiRob Maybe having it down was all a coincidence as to why it acted up once I got the fuel pump on and battery hooked up. I never had trouble before that. It's probably over a year with no trouble since. The videos I looked up, I went back on them and left this comment to help others. I didn't pay attention to the security light at all. Didn't know why it would just stall right away after starting. Thought it had something to do eith the fuel pump. I bought a fuel pump pressure tester and everything so that I could check pressure. It was all good. Stumbled upon this fix and noticed the security light. I've only used the GM key since because I wasn't sure about the walmart made once.

So i have a 98 just replaced steering column iv done relearn security light goes out when turned to on start it it dies security light flashes then goes out and can fire it and dies
if the light goes out, the security is learned. Have you checked for codes in the passlock module? I would clear those first and see what it does.

@@joseburgos5106 I've been told you need the Tech2 scanner, there are others on the market with the same capabilities, one of which is sold at OReilly's. Check the product documentation before buying, they're a couple hundred bucks but they're a good tool to own.

a 2001 silverado does not use this style of system. This won't work in your truck.

Is this a youtube thing?Interesting that you are rebuilding them as these are one shot re-learn for proper frequency generated from padlock module. Thats bizarre. It is working on our end. Maybe someone else will chime in as far as thats concerned.
We see about a 50% failure rate on the used modules that come in prior to rebuilding. Several different issues, and not all can be addressed. I'd say 90% of them can be reliably repaired, and 10% are too far gone. We have sold a few thousand of these over the last couple of years with very minimal issues, and most of which can be linked to damaged wiring, or the sensor in the ignition.
What about a 2003 Chevy Express 1500 with the 5.3 I'm having the same problem that you were sewing in the earlier years it was start is stall out or won't even start at like it tries like is not getting the fuel so the engine I already replace the fuel filter and the fuel pump
that generation uses the newer style of Vats which is in the BCM. We unfortunately don't carry anything for that generation. Try Spartan Autoworx.

my light is solid and won't shut off. And can't get it to start. What do you do then. Cycles won't work either
If the light is solid, the passlock module is most likely defective. If you have a scan tool, attempt to communicate with it. If you can't, its likely a bad module. Have you already purchased one from us?
@@ProRebuild since i need my pickup as of yesterday. I'll probably follow the GM Bulletin UI26 and bypass this phony system with a switch.
@@DarkPinesProductions208 please let us know how that works. Its our understanding that that modification only allows the vehicle to start without a key in the ignition and does NOT bypass the module, but merely bypasses the ignition switch.

We have about 600 of these in stock needing service, and about 100 on the shelf waiting go. We repair about 100 of these a month and get about that many in. From our data here, we are not going to runout in the forseeable future.

@@ProRebuild no and kinda put it on hold as I had surgery and haven't dug into it again, have tried both new boxes, 1 new change was would not start and run for few seconds, now only cranks,with fuel pressure at injectors

My 1999 escalade 5.7 vortec it don't have a chip on the key but it starts a couple sec and stops everything has been changed related to fuel and Plugs firing does my car have same security module even if the key don't have the chip. I have had this truck sense 2005 and it's had this problem off and on sense 2008 it will be fine for weeks at a time thin no start battery is perfect but I'll put a very powerful jump start on it for extra power and after five or tin minuets it'll start.i need help I'm so over it.
Your vehicle has a security module. All 99-00 escalades do. These don't have chipped keys, but instead rely on a sensor in the ignition switch to determine if the vehicle should start with X key inserted. What does the security light do when you put the key in the ON position?
Hi, i have a 2001 Tahoe and sometimes when i try to Start it, it cranks, runs for about about a Second and than shuts off. Right after i push the "unlock" button on the remote control the car starts immediately and runs fine. Is this also an issue with the passlock or is this a different System?

Can you explain to me how to remove the TDM wire connector? How to unplug it from the module. I can't find anything online to help me, do you have any video links or website links or advice on how to (un)plug the connector? I seen you do it by wiggling it out...i have one that looks just like these in my car and I need to remove the connector from the black module box
There is a pivot pin on the bottom of the connector if you are looking at it. If you have a truck, you can use a large flat blade screw driver to pry it back. On a van, you can squeeze the back side of the connector to release this.
@@ProRebuild thank you so much, I actually was able to wiggle it out, once I lifted those place things on the side (the lock or whatever to keep it in place) I had to install an Newrockies Passlock Bypass Pro Module, got my car running again after the security light came on flashing and my car wouldn't start. Sure appreciate the response but I just ended up doing what you did with the wiggling. 💯👍✨
@@glorious28 I bought a NewRockies module, and their "instructions" didn't tell me that I had to remove most of my dashboard to reach the module (OBS Suburban.) What was you experience with their customer service? They completely ignored me when I asked about this.
@@MrTaxiRob so I fully researched it before I bought it to see where it would be at. They have list online that you can check and see for each car type. I left a review actually. I can share it here. I'll come back and reply again. But it was a success. Very confusing at first but I successfully installed and threw the damn TDM away! Haha it's ran for like over a year now since... And still running

Hi, today my 98 suburban start and run 1 second or less, after a complete dianostic i found that the fuse 21 had not voltage, i send courrent from the next fuse and now run and works perfect, fuse 21 is security, this is a sign of damage to this unit?

Sounds like a module issue.

The NBS, or 1999+ body style uses a different style of anti-theft module. I believe they're located in the dash, and its a grey box about 2"x3".
On one of your videos you say turn it off for 30 seconds the other video says turn it off for one minute which one is it

I've been looking for a solid solution to my problem, and it sounds like it's my PCM. Whenever my truck refuses to start, the SECURITY light stays on, it doesn't just flash. I've done the battery disconnect and relearn procedures (everyone seems to have a minor variation in their technique) and they don't work consistently either. The last RUclips video I saw that clinched it for me was of a backyard mechanic opening up his PCM to reveal a fried capacitor on the board. I'm assuming that's a common thing, and the part of the board that the cap attaches too can't accept a new one. When you say " the best components" I'm also assuming you jump the board or repair it somehow, either way for $149 it's a helluva deal. Beats $500 at the dealer for a key and ignition that I probably don't even need.

The whole computor system on vechicles that got them are all failure points. got three vechicles 2008 dodge caliber, 2000 seirra, 2007 oddessy all have computors , modules, sensors and can't seem to drive them any lenght of time before a damn light goes on and then code reader gives you multiple things that can go wrong so you spend a small fortune to fix and when you replace what you had to the damn light doesnt go off then try everything to get it off and then boom! it's on again reading the same code it had before! so get it erased and then few miles later another damn light and you fix dat and go through the same thing again! it's one thing or another! So one by one get them running and send them down the road and get a vechile that doesnt have all the WEAK computors modules and sensors.
Each of those have different components, but thankfully they're pretty simple. Chryslers have SKIM modules that are notoriously bad. The odyssey could be anything, and the sierra is usually a bcm issue.
Pro Rebuild. thanks for the input! soon as i can iam gonna sell what i got , don't need vechiles that every two months or so another light flashing that something needs money , gonna go to vechiles 1975 or older that don't have all the computors , modules,sensors, idiot lights. The older vechiles i know how to fix and don't need computors to try to figure out what another computor is dictating from a list of many faults that can be the real problem and end up replacing parts that didnt need and when all new parts installed idiot light back on with same problem. Did all that trying to get emissions test and STILL emissions place couldn't test because their computor said not ready to test so have to put miles for computor on vechile to clear so did that and again same damn thing so now have to make appointment with special emissions place to figure out what the new problem is. Frustrated! 😣

When the truck starts and runs, does the security light illuminate, or flash, or turn off? When the key is on, engine off, same question. let us know!

@@outlawten5750 if the security light is on solid, this module has probably stopped communicating. You can verify with a decent scan tool, as most have the "passlock" menu. If you can't communicate with it, the passlock module is bad.
