    I know I'm late to this post, but I do have advice. In our neighborhood we have multiple families that feed the feral cats. The difference in our neighborhood is that 80% of the people who feed them are also dedicated to TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release). We only have one female that keeps outsmarting everyone and keeps having litters. We manage to capture the males rather quickly though. So they may be responsible for one litter, but then we catch them.
    Local Humane Society's will rent out traps. There are also many dedicated rescue groups who might be willing to help also. Consider trying to get your neighborhood on Nextdoor so that you can organize. Our feral population is very low now. You can do it, it just requires patience. And make sure your neighbors know that they're just making the situation worse if they're feeding, but not fixing.

    Find a program in the area that spays/neuters feral cats, then set about trapping the offending felines in live traps and taking them there.

    Instead of doing what all the murderous comments on here say, bring them to an ASPCA shelter. Or do what someone else suggested. Trap, Neuter, Release. Don't kill the cats. Let them live but stop them from reproducing. Or make your neighbors take in all the cats that they have forced into feral live.

    A couple of years ago, my brother and I heard some kittens meowing somewhere near our house. When we looked, I found four kittens siting at the base of this tree. They were abandoned by their mother. They weren't even two weeks old! For the next few months, I took care of them. I bottle fed them, washed them, cuddled them and kept them safe.

    My cat is on my lap as I am writing this. She's a sweet little fella that's obliviously domesticated. I love her so much and we have gotten really close over the last month. I know this sounds like a far fetched idea, but what if you can round all the cats up in one place, give them to a no kill shelter, train them to be domesticated, and spay and neuter. Weird, I know, but animals, with the right amount of training, can be great companions in their lifetime.

    Back when I was really young, a feral cat came to my house and we fed it. He then lived in my backyard until winter, and then he came inside. He spent the next 10 or 11 years lounging around the neighborhood, eating only from us, sometimes coming inside, and pooping in this little area behind our detached garage. That cat was awesome and would come if you called him, but could typically be found somewhere on the property or the neighbors side lawn.

  • @thecrystalcrow
    @thecrystalcrow 10 лет назад +9

    You can always call the locality, or perhaps a local feral spay/neuter/release group. Feral cats are usually killed directly at a shelter, because they are largely unadoptable (I've worked with ferals in similar situations). Fortunately there are many groups that will trap/spay/neuter/release in situations like these. May be something you want to look into. Won't help with the poop issue, but will alleviate the reproductive issues...plus you wan't look so much like a cat hater to the neighborhood. :D

    Anyone commenting and acting like they care so much about animals, randomly feeding them sometimes is not caring for them. They don't give them shelter or any kind of medical care. They're basically just helping them survive, and then giving them the ability to reproduce in a dangerous environment with not enough resources. This is stupid and an obvious sign of, "Awwwe look at the cute kitties. Let's feed them so they'll come back enough that we can look at them more." It's selfish.

    Hmmm, that much poop, that's not being picked up by the guilty party, from that many animals is a health concern for the entire area. Especially since there are children right next to them. Call the authorities about it. Or you can try calling the local animal shelter and ask them if they have a feral cat control program, where they trap, spay/neuter, and put them up for adoption.

    Considering BOTH my cats were 100% feral when we found them, they can still be trained and still deserve someone to take care of them. So I think your town needs a no-kill shelter to collect the strays and take better care of them.
    (And I say NO-KILL because animal control would just remove them and leave them in shelters to wait to get euthanized.)
    Cats are pooping in your yard because they THINK its part of their property and they're feeling threatened of losing it, so if the city got together and created a place just for them, they would learn that they need to go there. They feel uncomfortable in the situation they're in right now. Cats are very territorial; you're lucky the males aren't SPRAYING your house. That's worse then poop.
    No-kill shelters not only offer home and shelter for the cats, but food and spaying and neutering in some cases. And it also gives the neighborhood a place to go and adopt them.
    I think every city should have a no-kill shelter like that; and not just for stray cats but for stray dogs, or lost pets to go where the owners can come looking for them.
    Even if you're not staying there, I think your neighborhood should consider that solution.. Maybe the people feeding them could help open the business.

    This isn't our world. 😮The cats are a species that diverve to live freely. 😉They are taking "our" land because we are taking theres! 😱Same with forest animals. 😣Even polar bears and animals that are affected by global warming. 😵We are taking there habitat!😰 I bet they would be doing all they could to help stop it if they could.😶 We are a more advanced species so we should help them not be bothered by other speciese. 😟For all we know, the ants we kill under our feet are on there way to school. 😐 This is not our world, it belongs to all animals and living things. Don't think of these cats as threts, think of them as a sign:

    Rhett needs to be accept that once something is done about these cats, they're pretty much all killed. I feed some feral kittens in hopes of catching some for neutering and spaying. They don't let me near them but they've gotten closer every feeding. I know some people who feed the cats around their apartment complex. They're very sweet and compassionate women who just love their cats. I adopted my cat from them. They take their time to catch and neuter the cats by befriending them and adopting them out. Rhett should instead ask the women to either train the cats for adoption or take them in. She also needs to get them all neutered or spayed.

    I had a stray that kept taking a crap in my back yard, one day I lost it and chased after the thing with a cardboard packing tube, there where a few close shaves but I never managed to hit it. At the same time though it wasn't graceful in its escape and hurt its self at the end of my driveway. It never came back.
    So Rhett, you just be a crazy guy trying to hit them with a cardboard tube, and they will stay away. ;)

    My brother got some ELECTRONIC cats deterrents. Now the cats keep away. Make sure you research which ones actually work first. Also you don't want your neighbors pets to be affected by them, so place them strategically. They are not cheap to buy.
    You could make a dirt pile in one area to attract them to use the dirt pile instead of your grass. They love to try cover over their crap so loose dirt is premium for them, especially if the dirt is semi hidden, or out of the way somewhere.
    You could also try feeding them yourself and waiting for them, then when they are nice and close you can give them the biggest fright of their lives by banging something really hard to make a loud noise. They will soon learn that your section is a danger zone. They are pretty smart and they will think you are trying to catch them. If you try to frighten them when they are not close, they will not get a big enough fright to deter them.
    You could try a recording of a dog barking, but that's annoying.

    I lived in a neighborhood where a woman was feeding all the stray cats. The neighborhood got together and decided to tell the woman that if she wanted to continue feeing the cats then they all needed to be caught and taken to the vet to be spayed a neutered and she did it. You should bring this up to your. Neighbor. It's the least they could do.

    Seriously what's with people telling them to kill the cats? Would you tell them to kill dogs? Honestly, they're both animals. People really need to step back for a second and see that there are other options.
    - build a fence
    - call humane society and get them spayed/neutered
    - deal with it because they're just cats. Seriously first world problems.

      I don't like the idea of hurting them either, but there are bigger issues than poop. I don't know about in the US, but in Australia feral neighborhood cats decimate small native bird populations. In the area I live we've seen the Superb Blue Wren go from being everywhere, to non-existent within the twenty years since people moved into the area (that was formerly farm and bush land). You'd literally see neighborhood cats displaying them as trophies. So comparing animals I'll side with the Wren and with regret would get cull feral cats, I know its not their fault but the reckless owners that don't spay their cats and let them roam, but hey, sometimes there are tough choices.

    • @Dann7000
      @Dann7000 10 лет назад +1

      I'm in Victoria, on the Mornington Peninsula. Where we live it is where the suburbs meet the bush, so the issue I'm talking about is as much to do with domestic cats that are allowed to roam as much as truly feral cats. Basically if you see cats skulking about your property (and you are on a couple of acres) there is no way of saying if someone apparently is responsible for them or they are feral. I know there are some that seem clearly ferals from their size and look, but basically I mean any cats that are out in nature doing their thing are an issue. You can find a lot of information about it in other areas, including wilderness areas online. Where are you?

    I hate to be this guy, but there is a difference between a feral cat and a stray cat. A stray cat was at one time owned as a pet, and is comfortable with humans.
    A feral cat would not be doing this, because they would get their food by hunting, and they would be scared of humans, since they were never, or have not in a long time been a pet.

      wrong point we're talking about feces not pets. I personally love cats but unless trained to poop i'll refuse to take care of it.
      anyways feral cat don't have to fear humans they just mistrust anything that moves since they're following their instinct. to domesticate literally is to repress instinct and become docile.

Now that I think of it all living breathing critter types, all POOP so who are you to say another critter can't poop in the neighbors yard or anywhere they feel like it.Or you can feed them coffee and get rich from cat poop coffee. My husband suggested you and your kids round the cats up and relocate them outside of your area so they are gone and you can ask farmers or other types of places that get a lot of mice or rats if they would like to have a cat to hunt them being they are feral they are prob good at hunting mice. Just an idea to not have them killed and put to good use and out of your hair. You can be part of the solution.
