  • The 1st year following the NBA-ABA Merger saw the Philadelphia 76ers hosting the Houston Rockets in the Eastern Conference Finals. The 76ers, led by league MVP "Dr. J" are up 3 games to 1, and attempting to clinch a berth in the NBA Finals (against Bill Walton's Blazers). But closing out the Rockets is no easy task, especially considering the big man in the middle, the 21-year-old Moses Malone.
    Both players would team up in Philadelphia and clinch the NBA Championship in 1983, but 6 years prior, they faced off against one another in a battle for NBA supremacy.
    Enjoy!

    Malone came out of Highschool, Dr . The Jordan of the Era, and Malone was the LeBron of that Era. No Dr J no Jordan, no Malone No LeBron James.

      He also takes the first step with his pivot foot when going left, so it's a violation of the rules. Modern players get flack for being allowed to play more freely than the rulebook says, but Dr. J's game seems to be based on violation of the rules.

    Interesting to see Moses Malone and Darryl Dawkins so young, neither of the two played in college, and years later Darryl was traded from Sixers to Nets to sign Moses.

    😂 lol u R Sooooo exact on shue. FREE was hurt also. This team was talented but lacked a real PG which they needed bcuz Shue was not the X and Os to make up for the slight void. Collins and free were both scorers but they could handle the rock and as the other announcer (not Brent) pointed out sometimes the Sixers just relied on this talent. Doc, Mcginnis, Free, even Collins at times often were just one on one. It showed versus Blazers. But one other thing...the Doctor is legendary but he was like Jordan and Pippen B4 in he playedboth ends of the floor equally great. Doc IMO is the GOAT level player most often overlooked. I remember one game he held Bird scoreless for most of the game to help win. People kind of forget how great Doc's overall game was.

    I remember watching this game live expecting a Sixers clincher but they played poorly and Rockets forced a sixth game back in Houston where the Doc'Tah took over with 44 points. Gene Shue (R.I.P.) was an awful coach who had no idea how to blend this team of incredible talent nor use the Doc correctly in what should have been a motion offense much like when Julius played for the ABA Nets.

      Depends on who you're talking about. For instance, Dr. J was a hall of fame player (and rightfully so) who couldn't go to his left to save his life.

    • @TheMeefive
      @TheMeefive 9 месяцев назад

      @@frankjum I beg to differ Kevin Mchale tells a story about his first time guarding Dr J. M.L. Carr told him he had to make Doc go left. He forced Dr J as far left as he could and DrJ dunked on him. Mchale went o Carr. Carr said "I didn't say it was easy, I just said you have to make him go left."
