I really hope to continue to see a pseudo return to form of these classic remake sets. Honestly the fact that the spaceship looks so unique silhouette wise shows you that the original designs were peak and only got better with age. Let's hope for some MTron, Ice Planet, and hell any other classic Lego themes and sets having an updated comeback
Wow, a nostalgia set that is not €200,-plus. Not to mention it looking to give value for the price (within Lego). And i think this one will be a gift to my brother who had the space theme amongst the three of us, since he has gotten out of his dark ages recently aswell.
Yes that grille wedge piece already exists in black, for anyone wondering - in the Aquadozer from Aquaraiders, the Interstellar Starfighter from UFO, and the Armada Flagship from og Pirates.
I was literally going into the comments to say that it had been for-EV-ver since we had gotten that piece in black! Heck, now that I think about it, I think that that piece hasn't been active in the LEGO Portfolio in ANY color since the very first set to use their new 6-wide shipping container pattern came out back in the late '00s/early 2010s 🤔 Incidentally, I've been hoping for a reissue of this part for quite some time, as the use of 2 in that set as the bogie ends of a COFC spine-car was rather inspired 😊
Just came from the re-released old review of the Renegade! The new one looks pretty good; hopefully, Walmart will have this one on sale for $80 like they did for the Galaxy Explorer.
My initial reaction was not entirely positive, but I think I've come around to considering it a good update. Not entirely clear if the landing gear folds or not, they look less prominent in some of the shots but it might just be the angle. The rover being basically a pickup truck is pretty funny (and... actually, isn't it whatever Kup from the 80s Transformers series turns into?) Only thing I'm really not that happy about is the sensor head, it looks too much like a slightly embarrassed beetle. The mini-flyers being disguised as the symbols on the wings when stowed is actually pretty brilliant. Only one more question remains: Battrax when?
Black Tron, Mos Def and Talib Kweli, Black Tron. 🎶 It reminds me of when I would make spaceships out of random parts as a kid, utilizing the wedges from boats and whatnot.
I grew up when Lego spaceships were blue & grey, with accents of yellow. But yeah, the fun was in building new space things from the accumulated parts of my space sets collection.
Well, as a serial completionist, now they have to make a contemporary M-tron, Space Police, and Ice Planet. I mean, who doesn't want a new Deep Freeze Defender?
Space Police is possible. M-Tron and Ice Planet 2002 aren't, because of the retired trans colors. And there isn't any piece to exchange the large quarter dome piece also. I would love to see a UCS Mega-Core-Magnetizer or a Deep-Freeze-Defender if they would bring back the old colors 🤗. Soo long...
Dude, no idea this was gonna drop. So hyped! I still have the massive ice planet cruiser on a shelf with my modern lego. I cant wait for them to redo that one!
This set looks like a great value and I enjoy having more exposed studs than usual since it makes it more lego-like. However, I wish the design was a bit more substantial in shape instead of being too busy with too many different angles and shapes for it to look clean and sleek.
Yeah I feel like it lost a lot of its original silhouette, it definitely didn't translate as well as the Galaxy Explorer did to its own remake. It's also a bit of a shame how much they phoned in the box art.
I too feel critical of how blunt the left fuselage is. It will be interesting to see if other builders customize it to be somewhat more pointed, as I likely will.
I still have the original on display in my office, along with the Galaxy Commander (6980). I love that they are remaking these but the originals will always be my favourite (because that's what happens when you get old).
Just from the first impression I love this set. And I will definitely buy it. I wonder how this ship will look next to the reimagined Galaxy Explorer we got a while ago. Either way, I hope Lego keeps these models coming. Well.... at least once in a while. Anyways, I think this is going to be a good one.
I am very much looking forward to this set! From what I can see, this set might partially still work with the Blacktron Cruiser; it looks like there's the same 1 brick of space between the top and bottom clips; which means (while I don't know for sure about stability) the Cruiser cockpit, the back side of the cargo module, and the back of the wings module should (hopefully) work still. Which also means that the engines, antenna/scanner array, cockpit, and engines of the Renegade would be partially compatible with those modules. But we'll have to wait until we have the two sets in-hand to see! About the one beam in the front: that is technically there on the original, right? it's maybe just more prominent because of how there's more yellow, and the land rover thing isn't filling up the middle space in many pictures.
Thanks Lego for listening and bringing back Classic Space. Fills my heart with joy. There's definitely a market for the old stye Space with a new twist and they're great because they lead to lots of game play and stories. I hope to see more Classic (not City) Space sets, especially smaller ones like vehicles and stations and maybe even someday a mega set like a space monorail!
I love the contrast w the galaxy explorer. The industrial vs sleek design, asymetry and colour too! Will be grabbing this guy for sure (hopefully on a nice discount like the GE!).
I was just a little bit too young for the OG Blacktron, but I love this. This is an absolute buy for me. I will still be modifying it, but I dig it! Very industrial looking. Not a pretty ship, nor should it be. It is a ship for work… and swooshing!
I have similar reservations about the design decisions. However, the original Renegade is one of the few sets I kept from my childhood and have on display to this day, so I'm compelled to get the new version to go along with the modern Galaxy Explorer. I am happy that my two favorites from when I was a kid have been ones selected by LEGO for new and updated editions.
I actually really love this. It looks very industrial, like it was designed completely with function over form, which makes sense for Blacktron, but it’s also the opposite of the Galaxy Explorer that looks like it was designed with form over function. They contrast each other very well so I feel like they’ll look great together
It’s really neat and interesting, seems a decent price too, far, far superior to anything with the Star Wars tax at least. Will be picking up most likely to go with the galaxy explorer
Im really vibing with this. Not just that the A-Model looks so cool, it also looks like the pieces are really well suited to just go bananas yourself when building. Might even get a couple of them if they are on a sale.
I agree with you about the flat, knobby end to the side of the cockpit. I wish that was a little more aerodynamic and had a cooler feature attached to it.
The first blacktron and the first space police were my favorite space themes. I used to combine them using all black from blacktron and the trans red from the Space Police 1 to make sweet ships.
I grew up on the classic space and have a few of the black tron sets. But my favorite is the black tron 2 line ,love the colors better. That being said I will be getting this too and hoping they do a black tron 2 line also🤞🤞🤞.
I really love this one. I've been waiting for this reveal since the rumor dropped. I do agree more of those beams would have been nice, but not sure where you could put more without it feeling cluttered. I myself use those beams in some City Space builds, in order to frame the modules - but I can't put more than 3 around one of those modules, and those are thicker than the sides of this ship.
I have the original set as well, I can't wait for this one. I loved the new Galaxy Explorer which I also have from my childhood, got this one when I was an adult but.... now 2 space remake sets in a row? I'm happy.
I didn't look at the photos and videos well enough when I saw this - also not a fan of the front of the cockpit being the flag element. Great that it is printed. But would have appreciated a sloped brick there, similar to the original. I still have my original built and on display. One thing this one missed on is the ability for the cargo to be attached to the main cockpit flyer. The original had a lab in the middle that could be attached. This has the lander, so it acts more like a drop ship. I'm sure that was a design decision early on. And the rover/lander looks super cool. It just leaves the original modularity short one large unit. On a marketing note and nostalgia note: the Galaxy Explorer from 2022 was the first set I built upon spending 9 months hiking in the woods. I absolutely loved the build. By the time I got back, it was already on discount at big box retail stores. I bought another so I could build the medium ship, and a 3rd for 1/2 price! [I decided to skip the small ship build and play around with build a MOC which I'm 1/2 way okay with - need to spend time improving it]. So I am not certain this will sell well either. But TLG now has marketing data from the GE 2022 set, so maybe they won't make as many and so there won't be as many overstock in big box stores? The other issue with GE was how big the box size was. A slow seller, low-ish price-point, and a large box are not good combos - I'm sure Walmart and the rest would have appreciated a $300 set that was in the same size box being a slow mover vs a $100 set. Maybe that is why the "retro" box art from GE is not on this set - they want this set to pop more to casual customers. I'll be curious if they have made the box size smaller [take a page from FO, TLG!] so that it won't take as much shelf space, as well as be better/more efficient for the environment and for shipping. $100 seems like a good value on this. But my 3 Galaxy Explorers cost $100, $70, and $50. So I may just wait to see if this goes on a similar sale, as I really want to get the modular on Jan 1 as modulars don't seem to go on sale very often, and TLG has me with the GWP that comes with the modular [how I loathe the GWP system, but at the same time, when there's a GWP set I like, they get me to fall in line and buy the set at midnight ...]. Looking forward to your review and comparison video, Jang!
I hate Lego, the company, but this Set...total Nostalgia, and finally a worthy opponent for my Mission Commander. I will buy it with a likelihood of 100% or more. Blacktron vs Space Police III (the blue/black and red transparent) was my childhood.
$150 in Norway. Always fun to see the announcement prices and know I can easily just add a third of the peice right on top as a good pointer. This one is confirmed as $150+.
Wish the Invader/Cruiser had had a release like this, but it looks really cool. The vehicle deployment feature is stellar I wonder if the print on the Blacktron 'nauts will wear off like the old ones did...
My era is more Ice Planet and Blacktron II, and Spyrius. But I’m still going to get this, and if they continue this trend of $100 upscaled remakes I’ll keep getting them. Something about a good ol’ spaceship just hooks me.
THE ROBOT... NOSTALGIA!!!! 🥹🥰🤖🖤 Blacktron must've started around the time I stopped collecting Lego.. had just about every set up until that point. Maybe I had a set or two of BT, tho, given I had the robot, and maybe some of the minifigs? Just don't recall any significant sets in the BT colours. But I still NEED this set.. maybe even two, for the alternate builds! 😅
I would love it if they eventually have one spotlight set of each of the original space themes. There doesn't need to be an entire line and I don't think even old fans really want to dedicate their whole displays to one theme, but getting something like a Futuron lab base, a Space Police big cruiser and a M-Tron six wheeled mobile base would be awesome.
I hope they remake the Space Police Mission Commander next. That set was a flawed design, but it still had a lot of cool features. Plus, it was basically the heroic counterpart to the Blacktron Renegade.
Hopefully there will be more Classic Space and the other related following space sets. The basic designs back then were very entertaining. LEGO could tweak the designs to make them fit in with current Space thems.
I think the issue here is that its hard to pin down what Blacktrons aesthetic is. This build reads just a little more utilitarian than what I think most people associate Blacktron with. I totally think this would be an alreight design for blacktron but put this thing in light sand blue or gray and it might end up being MORE on point for the general space theme.
Blacktron must've visited Hyrule recently with all the triforce imagery theyre using now! Jokes aside, this is pretty darn good for a remake of an old set. The price for once also seems to align quite well for what it is. Might have to pick this up sometime!
5:54 Don't mind me, I'm just playing with my LEGO on this awkwardly placed table with mismatched chairs inside the hallway of my house. You can't see it, but you can be sure that the mug and the bowl on the table are pristine and empty. Also that prop lamp isn't plugged into anything.
Totally missed that the printed flag like piece was the nose cone. Great thing to point out . . . Somehow I thought the old slope piece would still be in production even though I didn’t see it in recent history
The connection points aren't THAT different compared to the blacktron cruiser, you could probably make some minor modifications to it to make it fit with this.
I would love some new sets in classic themes, not just remakes. I will get this since there is so few Lego space options, “city space” wasn’t quite there though they’re on the right track.
SOLD! And glad to hear it has printed pieces. The instructions for the little Blacktron Cruiser GWP actually told the builder to put two of the stickers UPSIDE-DOWN! It's Blacktron! Not Zelda! Sheesh!
Lego: We're only picking one winner for the anniversary set, and they only get ONE SET, that's it! Also Lego: Keeps popping out Castle and Space sets while all Bionicle got was a GWP and a sticker.
Its so ugly. I love it.
😀 😀
So it's like our french bulldog then. 🙂
@@subraxasYup
it's so ungly, and I don't like it :(
Exactly.
I agree, it has to be ugly. That's why it's so great!

MTron and a few other sets are unlikely to return, at least in the way they were back then. We certainly aren't going to get magnets anymore.
Wow, a nostalgia set that is not €200,-plus. Not to mention it looking to give value for the price (within Lego).
And i think this one will be a gift to my brother who had the space theme amongst the three of us, since he has gotten out of his dark ages recently aswell.

Blacktron was my absolute favorite as a kid. Well done, Lego. Take my money!
This will go with my galaxy explorer and space shuttle nicely
Those girders on top are pure Space 1999 Eagle detail.
@prokesuk it add something retro future to the aesthetic and I like it 👍
Ooh, my collection of Blacktron dudes are gonna love this! They’ve been jealous of all the space the rainbow crew got in their ship!

I love the walker alternate build. To me, it seems just as good as the main build

Ah the gear do fully retract using the exact same design as the Galaxy Explorer. Sorry for not covering that.
Hope we get more retro sets of all the old themes. an updated fort Legorado set would be so cool
Black Tron, Mos Def and Talib Kweli, Black Tron. 🎶

Yup, I have to buy this as I had the original set when I was a kid!
Old blacktron was right before I started buying legos. Blacktron with the white suit was when I got it. Nice
The new cone they made for the concord nose would work really good for a thruster, and it fits the 3x3 dish inside.
More classic space is always good! And being fully retail is even better.
I too feel critical of how blunt the left fuselage is. It will be interesting to see if other builders customize it to be somewhat more pointed, as I likely will.

Woah, Blacktron. That’s awesome! Had the micro set when I was little.
I don't have any nostalgia or anything for blacktron but boy this thing looks really sick. Very tempting
So happy to see the throwbacks continue. One day down the road they will make a throwback of a set I had as a kid.

Jokes aside, this is pretty darn good for a remake of an old set. The price for once also seems to align quite well for what it is. Might have to pick this up sometime!
Wish I could preorder
Funny enough, I didn't like it at first but seeing it here, it is growing on me
5:54 Don't mind me, I'm just playing with my LEGO on this awkwardly placed table with mismatched chairs inside the hallway of my house.
I MIGHT buy this. Just maybe.
