Awesome! After two seasons on the PCT, April is probably the best time to start.. not too early where you'll run into heavy snow in the Sierras and not too late to burn in the SoCal desert while racing to get to Canada before the Cascade snows. Good luck & best wishes!
Like that tent. I noticed you slept on reflectix but I didn’t realize you didn’t have any other sleep pad. Yeah, I need my pad. But the reflectix is not a bad idea and very UL. I sleep in a hoodie too. Even in summer when the temps dip down at night, esp in the mountains, it’s nice to be able to pull it up and it’s a great comfort to have that in a chilly night. Thanks for sharing your gear load
Yes, you definitely have to be comfortable with a thin sleeping pad if you're only using reflectix. There were a few nights where I wish I had a little bit more padding... But then I would put my butt pad underneath my hip area and that made it much more comfortable.
Congrats on your hike. Imma stick with my Duplex; I like the extra room. I’m hooked on my UGQ quilt and Nemo pad. Top end but worth the price. Still rocking an Arc Haul. When it’s hosed not quite sure what I’ll replace it with. Prolly gonna be a Hyperlite; maybe a LiteAF. Got a good deal on a MH puffy; it’s still running strong and only had one down leak. Might pick up a Torrid pullover for damp conditions. Never going to own a Meli but I have a Lightheart clone. REI goretex rain gear and Lone Peaks. Switching over to Goats.
Thanks. I enjoyed your hiking videos. I recently got home from 50 miles of hiking in Rocky Mountain NP. Have you considered doing the Tahoe Rim Trail? I'm considering it for next summer. I am very sorry about the loss of your friend. My mother had breast cancer twice. Can we still donate to the breast cancer research charity through your link? It is important to be ready for eternity, because we will all go there one day. Are you ready? If you are unsure, I would love to talk with you about that so that you can be sure.
Hi, glad you enjoyed the videos. There will be more videos in the future for sure. I remember how beautiful Desolation Wilderness was in May 2020 despite being covered in snow. Hiking the full TRT is on my list. This year was difficult there due to all the snow. Sorry to hear about your mom. I hope she was able to beat cancer both times. Yes, the fundraiser donation link is still open in case you or anyone else wants to continue supporting breast cancer research. Thanks so much!
On the topic of pants would you recommend pants or shorts during May - June time frame for the desert section say the first 400 miles? Thanks in advance
During those months the desert is going to be hot 🥵 with likely a lot of night/early morning hiking. Of course it's a personal choice but for me I'd probably wear shorts but would be sure to use sunscreen until I had a good base tan to prevent sunburn on the backs of my calves. Keep in mind that exposed skin will evaporate more water/sweat than covered skin so if water sources are dry or unrelieved then pants may actually help you conserve water better despite the higher temperatures.
@@BrianWithoutBorders Thanks I appreciate the feedback, and congratulations on finishing up your PCT hike. What an accomplishment, currently can’t decide on route NOBO or SOBO weighing options? Have a great week and again thanks….
Uniqlo is Japanese, not Chinese. Big difference, everything Uniqlo is well made and designed and not a cheap knock-off Amazon brand like most Chinese clothing companies. Just feel like they deserve the proper respect to get their national origin right as, fairly or not, saying "a Chinese company" is pretty much a pejorative in this day and age.
Thanks for the correction. The label said "Made in China" so I thought it was a Chinese company. Of course iPhones are made in China too but by a US company using US quality standards. Considering my Uniqlo jacket has lasted over 3 years on multiple long distance hikes it appears that while it may be made in China they are using higher quality Japanese manufacturing standards as well. Thanks again for the correction 😊
I have taken my Uniqlo down jacket many times on the PCT. It. Does NOT keep me warm at all. Huge difference between a $20 Uniqlo diwn jacket vs my $350 down jackets.
Brian, so glad you were able to get back on trail to finish the PCT!!!! I will be back this April to hopefully do the whole PCT.

Really informative, Brian. Thanks for sharing!
Happy to help 🙂
