Oneida was NOT a free love community because who could sleep with who was regulated by a committee, you were not free to choose. Also free love isn't about promiscuity, it's about rejecting marriage.

Wow... I didnt know the Oneida community was that well known, I actually live about 15 minutes from where they were set up. It is huge mansion.... Cleverly named the mansion house on a hill leading down to a culvasack of houses. You can actually get apartments in the house still, my uncle actually lives there. intersting fact Noise had tunnels dug from the mansion down to the houses surrounding so he could easily get around and free his love....

I had a friend who worked as a tour guide there. He got to read a lot of the old books and learned a lot of the history. They practiced black magic rituals on top of all that other weird sh*t. Always gave me bad vibes walking out of his apartment through that huge building to go to my car... He actually used a Ouija board to contact spirits nothing happened during the Ouija ritual but he said a black shadow would perch itself on the corner of the ceiling and watch over him while him and his girlfriend slept.

Wait, did that guy shoot McKinley? I thought it was Garfield that got shot by the Oneida reject

Throughout church history, there have been various groups that have practiced free love. In the early church there were the Adamites, you have the Oneida community, and in more recent times there was the Children of God cult, which was a severely controlling organization. It seems free love ideas are making a comeback among some Christians by authors like Bromleigh McClenagan and Philo Thelos. There is also a very interesting Yahoo group called Christ Proerotic where these issues are discussed.

Oneida is an Indian Tribe I thought... I never heard of this bit of history. Quirky and way off the beaten path- I like it.

Older people teaching younger people about sex is not new and has been many practice by traditional indigenous cultures, so has ejaculation control. This isn’t weird. I say more people should have the courage to create the relationships and communities outside of western homogenization.

That was pretty cool, and included things I didn't know. You left out the eugenics, though.

Interesting video - thank you. The Community also produced leg-hold traps prior to making cutlery. A man named Newhouse brought his skills as a trap maker and trapper to the community.

Sewell Newhouse was a blacksmith. Joined the Community and produced the best traps. The fur trade was big at that time. The Newhouse bear trap is rare and highly collectible today.

Maybe the war of ideology in the late 19th -mid 20th, propaganda, sedition laws, etc.. Edward Bernays (Engineering Consent) William Sidis ( Syndicalist & inspiration for Good Will Hunting character).
Critically important perspective imho, but could alienate.
    Just a thought.
    Thanks for the good work.

    Keith,
I was hoping you weren't done with your ideology descriptions. I'd like to see if you can describe Naziism without at the same time condemning it. It took the hearts and minds of millions so it can't be obviously evil. If you can do that... If you can explain it in such a way that it can't be seen to be evil without historical evidence, it should give us pause in the certainty we hold for our own favorite ideology. That is important. I think.

That's a rough road to travel, I am considering it though. I plan like a honey badger so there is really no rhyme or reason as to what I do a video on, the five ideological vids just seemed to pour out. This one, someone suggested and I knew about it so blah blah I made it. I am working on doing an Executive Order: Immigration one today or tomorrow to capitalize on current events and then we'll see. I am never done so eventually I am betting I'll do it. Thanks as always for your viewership and comments which give my vids more context and layers. ~Keith

      Keith,
Executive Order. I'll bet you will start with the Louisiana Purchase. You might mention the dilemma Obama's causes the libertarians. A search on the key words Cafe Hayek Executive Order if you need to see how.

      That's easy
It's socialism - it was just the German socialist party and its what happens when you destroy capitalism - which has competition between companies instead of a centralised control
Imagine now the people all loving socialism, and then imagine how when there's nobody else to turn to and the ones on top become corrupt
Same thing happened with Robspierre during the French Revolution and it happened in Russian during their revolution
It always ends up the same
      Easy question actually
Capitalism is freedom because it offers choice
Socialism removes choice, leaving it in the hands of only one person which yeah, find someone who can do that without becoming corrupt

I am currently doing a project on "utopia" in my GT class. We had to pick a "utopian" community to present to the class in our groups. I happened to pick this Oneida community and found their concepts very interesting. Great video lol
