    It is always popular but costly. Now, I will show you how to build it for cheap. I used cedar fence pickets left over from a fence build for this door. You can buy them for $2.87 for a 4-inch width or $4.65 each for a 6-inch width.
    I bought one sheet of 3/4 inch plywood for $50 and the door hanging hardware from Amazon, amzn.to/2JIgGIm
    And a Black Gate pulls for $4, and liquid nails for the glue up.
    Enjoy and check out additional links to Amazon.

    You built it the right way... with a young strong man to help you move it around! I was expecting you to take a drink once in a while during the build... that’s the way I do it as long as there are no big spinning blades involved in the build.

    Interesting as to how youi turn the light switch on when the door is open even a slight amount.

    • @DIYHGP
      @DIYHGP  4 года назад

      You can reach behind the door, before you close it, or after you close it the switch is shown.

  • @baddad18
    @baddad18 5 лет назад

    Thanks for your video - I noticed you have the same issue I had with the light switch being on the wall behind the door when you slide it open. I ended up moving the switch to the other wall. Was this an issue for you? Was there a reason you didn't put any finish or stain on the cedar? One other question - what kind of handle did you use for the other side of the door- never seen this addressed in any barn door build videos. Nice work - you made it look easy which means you know what you're doing.

    • @DIYHGP
      @DIYHGP  5 лет назад

      Since this was my daughters house I offered to move the light switch but she declined. she wanted to have the natural look of Cedar rather than have it finished so that’s what she got.

    I wish people would say what size the planks are

  • @MrClutch760

    What size pickets do I need? Also what is everything required to build this. Thank you

    • @DIYHGP
      @DIYHGP  4 года назад

      Cody The picket size doesn’t matter if you have skinnier pickets use more if you have wider pickets you will use fewer pickets.

    Hi, I'm planning of making a barn door for the very first time.
    It's going to be install between my bedroom and master bath. 48 inches wide opening. I never thought of adding plywood between the panels. I also noticed you didn't make a frame. How thick is your door? I bet the door was heavy. Will it work if i buy panels with grooves. Home depot has them for $6 per panels. your door turned out great! Thanks

    • @DIYHGP
      @DIYHGP  4 года назад

      Joe, I did add an edge trim to the door (not shown) The plywood adds stiffness as well as weight. The cedar planks are thin and likely to warp by them selves.

    Do you need to joint the surfaces first. ( I do not have jointer)

    • @DIYHGP
      @DIYHGP  2 года назад

      You do not have to joint the surface a heavy duty sander would do the same task, it’ll just take a bit longer.

    Do you have to use 3/4" plywood? I'm assuming that is to make it "more" durable but would 1/2" or maybe even 1/4" work too? I'm a small woman so handling the larger plywood is a challenge.

    • @DIYHGP
      @DIYHGP  4 года назад +1

      I believe 1/2 inch would work, I would not use 1/4 inch as it is not strong enough.

      DIY Home & Garden Projects awesome! Thank you so much! I'm going to plane and then burn the planks to get a different look. I honestly didn't even think about putting the planks on plywood. I just thought it would be like building a fence gate. I'm so happy I found your video!
