    My Uncle Ted Evans was killed just outside Westkapelle, his grave is at Bergen Op Zoom. One sad aspect of this is that Montgomery's crazy push for Market Garden, against opposition from the Canadians and Americans, delayed the landings and allowed the Germans to reinforce their positions. If the assault had gone ahead earlier it could have been a much easier fight.

    Anytime you think your job is tough, think about what our fathers and grandfathers had to do on places like Walcheren. The entire Scheldt campaign was beyond brutal.
