Sometimes in life we don’t always succeed in everything we do, but we pick ourselves up, learn from it, and keep trying. You were a blessing to your friend for giving it a try.
I actually Recently Did a turbo change on my CX7 just last week with the same approach you demonstrate in this video lol Ironically it only showed up today on my feed ahaha. It took me 4 days to get this thing out and the new upgraded turbo in, thats insane especially as I have experience with hands on work. It's a real PITA that amall 10 or 8mm bolt to the drain broke, you were on the home stretch. Frankly you would have been in for some more surprises getting the heat shields back on with limited space among other mina PITA's lol. Bruised knuckles, scraped fingertips and a lot of $%#% words later she's GOLDEN, I also Decatted that downpipe & left the secondary cat still in place as removing that downpipe if it ever clogs is way too much trouble. No fault codes and car runs great. In Hindsight, It would be much easier to access everything by just dropping the engine. or Cradle
Great video Clint, there’s just so much you can do sometimes without a shop and all equipment. This shows people why mechanics charge so much sometimes. You gave it your best shot, good job!
Oh no! I am so happy you kept the video and taught others. Should people replace that bolt? Was it weak? Is it an inch-lbs torque spec or something? This was an amazing instructional video. I know someone is going to use this to make some monies :)
All I know is it was tight going back together and I couldn’t see it to tell if it was cross threaded or not. Just sucks all the way around but Sandlake auto said they can fix it and they will complete the job.
The dealer does this in 2 hrs by removing the transfer case and taking it out from the bottom - it's supposed to be much easier process from the bottom... you don't need to take out the exhaust manifold...
Its still a great video cant find much info on these. I just bought one and it has a rear main oil leak & im just going to remove the front end & remove the engine & transmission through the top im half way there.
As a mechanic AND turbo cx7 owner, a good mechanic always accept responsibility. That said this cars an absolute POS to work on in terms of clearances and tight fits. Forces you to use unconventional methods.

I noticed that any guy working on the engine bay always work on a dirty engine bay, which makes hard to work on
Thanks for sharing Clint! You do a good job of showing how to do stuff like this.
thanks buddy, I appreciate you

Your video saved me from serious shop $ Thanks
That’s awesome, don’t break that bolt off 🤣
I bought a 2010 mazda cx7 also and bolt was already broken and leaking , so I had to remove ptu to tap whole , pain in the azz
