Keep in mind that this kind of sketch condones violence towards women, who are portrayed in this sketch as 'prizes' and who can be discarded at will. Despicable
In case you haven't seen the behind-the-scenes video of this, the writers for this sketch are Dan Bulla, Sarah Sherman, and the Please Don't Destroy guys (Martin Herlihy, John Higgins, and Ben Marshall).
sinking man actually would've worked on so many levels tho play on common trope thinking man's X metaphor for socioeconomic stagnation, a wealthy person trying to maintain facade of their glory but worsens it with something gauche the sea, because shrimp
This was great use of Josh Brolin's various talents. I never would have thought he'd be such a good match with Sarah. One of the more memorable pre-tapes in the last few seasons - great style and a bit of tragedy, and a few good laughs (like when he threw the bottle at her).
I actually expected the shrimp tower to collapse as soon as Kinsky had taken a shrimp, you know, like the thing's balance was always very precarious. But this ending, and Kinsky throwing himself through the window, was excellent!
Kinský was a noble family that back in the day owned the beautiful countriside in Bohemia i grew up in. And I can totaly see them being exactly like that 😅 well played, Mr. Brolin and the entire cast 👏
On our honeymoon in Toronto we ate at the restaurant on top of the Space Needle. I accidentally ordered a seafood tower that was meant for multiple people. I couldnt even see my husband over it. People from other tables were coming over to marvel at it. It was the Shrimp Tower!!
Idk why but I genuinely feel like this sketch was written by PDD lol like it just has so many of the PDD themes. Even when they don't have a PDD segment with the boys, there's still a PDD sketch. Which I absolutely love lol
I feel like SNL is really taking chances with its sketches lately and diving into some real absurdist comedy. I'm definitely here for it! I think it's sort of a blessing in disguise that it's been dropping in quality and viewership lately, because it motivates the writers to really step up and take risks. Hopefully, it keeps paying off.
I just received a mail from an Austrian friend and was going to reply tomorrow. Her grandmother was born a countess Kinsky in 1892, so now I know what link to put at the end of my reply to her.
This just reminded me of how many times I've gotten food poisoning from chilled shrimp displays at big parties. And how many times I've eaten from them again at other big parties, only to get food poisoning again. But heck, they're delicious! 😂
Is SNL actually becoming funny again? This was brilliant, on the level of Monty Python at their best. Extremely clever, beautifully filmed, and what a performance by Josh Brolin!
Kinsky creates the shrimp tower to impress the archduchess and the tower ends up so impressive that he prefers it to the one it was meant to impress,by like, alot. What an absolutely loopy sketch. And Brolin was marvelous as he was all night. First making that face when she almost knocks over the shrimp tower lol, followed by the only logical action...just brilliant.
I love Josh Brolin in every sketch. He is hilarious.
Couldn't agree more, every single sketched I laughed, that never happened before.
He had to be. Other than this sketch, the laughs were scarce.
Protect the shrimp 🦐 tower.
yes he is ❤😊😂
as someone from Vienna, I can assure you, we are very protective of our shrimp towers!
for good reason
😂😂
I say... indubitably!
You unfortunately aren't protective of your borders anymore.
Here here, good chap
You are not insane...I thought she was going to knock over the Shrimp Tower, lol
She must be stopped! 😮
GOOD GOD, MAN! Get a hold of yourself!
One. Thank you.
At first I thought it was Scarjo and was okay with her knocking over the Scrimp Tower...
I thought she was going to crash into it and be covered in blood.
I'm kinda surprised that it didn't happen considering it's Sarah Sherman.
Josh Brolin understood the assignment tonight.
He really did. Elevated everything
its been 🌈 night
Best episode of season maybe
Yeah he didn't want to be like last week host
Yeah dude was really committed to the sketches. Took them to the next level. One of the better hosts / episodes I've seen in a while.
Whenever SNL goes into these bizarre kinds of sketches, I always find myself busting up laughing at the end of them. 😂
Thank please don’t destroy
Ok
Like when they have a sketch about Giant Sectional Sofas and Aidy Bryant shouting 'biggah, biggaahhhh'.
This had "Farewell, Mr. Bunting" energy and I loved every second of it.
This is TOP NOTCH SNL again
The unhinged level of tonight’s show is higher than the shrimp tower😂😂😂
😂😂Here, here🥂🍤🍤❤
@@cwilson9636 I think Sarah wrote this one, just a hunch...

Too damn close 😂
That's how a naughty girl of the time would pull a man's heartstrings prior to courting, hence the common phrase.
She was asking for it
She’s lucky he didn’t pull out his blunderbuss, and finish her off right then and there! 🍀
The glasses were wobbling…. What else was he supposed to do!?
Mr Brolin’s hosting performance tonight was a screaming example of why traditionally dramatic actors always are the best hosts.
Definitely. Dramatic bits really shine
Melissa Mccarthy & Emma Stone have entered the chat.
@@N.BR500 Definitely. I’d personally also add Ryan Gosling to that list.
I’ve also seen some singers do amazing jobs as well as athletes.

Josh Brolin doing an excellent job at holding the pure shrimp stupidity together. He was hilarious. To Kinsky

To kinsky!

The back to back uploads, the quality sketches and performances, Josh Brolin in perfect form - is this the best episode of the season??
Well he didn't have much competition--it's been awful so far this season!
I think it might be
For sure, brolin killed it.
In competition with Emma Stone but yeah, even when the writing was average,he delivered the goods.
It definitely is. Quite delightful

The accent is delightful. I hear Wolfgang Puck. He must have had his meals from Spago since he was just a kid.
They pulled off the turn in this sketch masterfully. That shove was outta nowhere.
"the sinking man's mozzarella sticks" was funnier than the laugh suggested
Not really. Particularly since he was saying "thinking man" in a German accent
