instead of the grbl which is nice for what it does but has drawbacks i would suggest trying to get a PoKeys57CNC which would came in way more handy especially when you start to extent the capabilities like routing and dust extraction and stuff. edit: just saying this cause went through the whole path of grbl>usb/lpt card>pokey and it would have saved me lots of headaches , fails and faults and money cause of memory issues and cheap parts if i went pokey direct.

Looks like you employ the same build philosophy as my Grandfather - "If you don't know how strong it needs to be, just build it 10 x stronger and it should be fine" Great projects!
Yup, that is the same philosophy my dad and grandfather used to follow. Overbuild it, and you don't have to worry about rebuilding it in a year or two. Just make sure you have it in the right place when you build, since moving it might just be... difficult.

The shell of the HUGE, awesome CNC Table looks like it could survive a nuclear bomb being dropped on it; those MASSIVE steel girders are BEASTS! This is amazing!
The Prusa Mk3 is a proven 3D printer design. Made in EU, almost all parts are either available off-the-shelf or as STL files to print yourself. It's not quick and at this point lacks some shiny, modern featues, but it is incredibly reliable and easy to maintain. As 3D printer's go, this is probably as sustainable a machine as you can get.
@@Coincidence_Theorist The MK3 and it's revisions, the MK3S and MK3S+ are set for end of life. After all it's a design from 2015 and hafve been superseded by the Mk4. You can buy that one from Prusa directly. As enthusiasts and print farms are slowly replacing their old MK3s, you might be able to score a used MK3 for cheap. I've seen them going a good chunk below 400€ on ebay. Thing is, unlike many other printers from that era, Prusa is still supporting these and even still occasionally issuing firmware updates.
Too bad the same can't be said of my Anet A8 (Prusa clone). The damn thing broke once a week for 2 months before I finally got it printing reliably. I had to replace bearings, the extruder nozzle, install custom firmware, resolder the Micro SD card reader and so on. Still, it worked well for 2 years before again throwing a thermal error. I think it's time for an upgrade.

Plastic house gutters work great for pipe cleaning with citric acid .If you need custom shape you can dig a hole in the ground and put nylon sheets in it to act as a pool.

I'm impressed, as ever. 25 years ago (when I was younger and probably stronger than now) I built a gantry out of old RSJs. It's about 9' tall and 10' wide and it makes a fantastic engine hoist for working on old Landrovers. Getting those steel beams into place with nothing more than muscle, an engine crane and a Hi-Lift jack was hard work. And a bit worrying at times. If I'd known about RUclips then, I could have recorded it. I didn't have a plasma cutter, so I used oxy-acetylene. Nor was TIG affordable for hobbyists, so I used stick and MIG. It's still in my garage and I still use it. Seeing you work on your steel beams brought the memories flooding back....

I love the way you maintain your tools to a high standard. I highly doubt you will leave your tools in a mess like many are found in. You taking the care to restore your tools makes it easier for their next owner. I do believe power tools and such won't get overly outdated after a certain point.

I'm taking your examples one tiny step at a time. My cheap angle grinder had small pebbles and possibly a bit of cold-welding in the main bolt, that held the grinding discs. After a hammer and WD-40 failed to do the trick, I left it in the freezer for an hour while I had breakfast and mowed the lawn. Easy - afterwards, I was able to rescue my tool! 🙂
Great stuff, love the scrapyard supply chain! I'm doing something similar, and decided on using a CNCDrive ethernet control and breakout board set, along with their software. USB is too unstable with the plasma EMI, ethernet looks to be a much more robust comm setup. Cheers from California!

I must admit, I struggle with the electronics repairs you do but I love the fabrication and bringing old discarded tools and equipment back to life. As a retired welder who had my own plasma table and cutting business for several years , this is very interesting to me.

This episode has convinced me that I need to go all in with a TIG welder seeing what you have done with it here has just convinced that it is something I need in my workshop you've also convinced me that I need to learn more about electronics and how CNC programming works I use tig welders all the time when I'm at work but I never thought I needed one in my home you see I use them all the time to weld stainless steel but seeing what you have done here with carbon steel that's impressive
In my opinion Cranktown City gets the award for diy plasma cnc machines. His besides that it's vertical, built from junk and on a budge has magnets. Miraculously it works. Joke's aside I think he's a good reference for advices for the electronics and software part of things.

been watching you for a long time. thought it was about time i joined Patreon to help you out.. i am enjoying seeing the new CNC episode. My first full time job was as a CNC programmer in 1982! we had to write the g-code by hand on a teletype terminal to producw a punched tape . the Laser CNC only read these punched tapes. it wasnt until 1984 that we got an Apple IIe so we could program in a text file and then print the tape. things are so much easier now!
I wish I had someone like you that is into building things out of steel for a friend, I would like to find more friends that do welding as a hobby or would be interested in starting a business.

A nice find that linear rail set up. I've made several CNC plasma and router tables. The heavier the moving parts the more rigid which is good for routers. However conversely it has more mass so means you can't run it at high speed. This can cause issues with plasma cutters on thin material and detail work on a router will take forever. The dust generated from a plasma cutter should not be underestimated it gets everywhere. Ohmic detection is the best for height control.
You have a great eye for what might be useful in the future. Your NSK ballscrew looks ground rather than rolled, hence the LOL cost vs rolled. 100Kg linear slide, what a beauty. As the plasma cutter is zero contact it requires no real force so i built one on plywood : "GRBL DIY plasma cutter" .Youve nailed the welding fillet. GT2 is super cheap, pulleys and idlers.Youve been lucky with EMC, maybe you have taken known precautions. EMC was my nightmage. Gcode is a facsinating language im fighting with to stop freecad starting the toolpath in the uncut middle of the part. Yes TPAI you need this journey, cnc allows engineers to be artists.

I recently built a similar machine, also built on GRBL. I think the one think I still really need, like yourself, is a torch height controller.

been watching you for a long time. thought it was about time i joined Patreon to help you out.. i am enjoying seeing the new CNC episode. My first full time job was as a CNC programmer in 1982!
we had to write the g-code by hand on a teletype terminal to producw a punched tape . the Laser CNC only read these punched tapes. it wasnt until 1984 that we got an Apple IIe so we could program in a text file and then print the tape. things are so much easier now!

A nice find that linear rail set up. I've made several CNC plasma and router tables. The heavier the moving parts the more rigid which is good for routers. However conversely it has more mass so means you can't run it at high speed. This can cause issues with plasma cutters on thin material and detail work on a router will take forever. The dust generated from a plasma cutter should not be underestimated it gets everywhere. Ohmic detection is the best for height control.

You have a great eye for what might be useful in the future. Your NSK ballscrew looks ground rather than rolled, hence the LOL cost vs rolled. 100Kg linear slide, what a beauty. As the plasma cutter is zero contact it requires no real force so i built one on plywood : "GRBL DIY plasma cutter" .Youve nailed the welding fillet. GT2 is super cheap, pulleys and idlers.Youve been lucky with EMC, maybe you have taken known precautions. EMC was my nightmage. Gcode is a facsinating language im fighting with to stop freecad starting the toolpath in the uncut middle of the part. Yes TPAI you need this journey, cnc allows engineers to be artists.
