Just received your first shamisen in the mail and shocked to find it in five separate pieces? Assuming it was properly prepared for shipping, that shamisen was intentionally disassembled to prevent damage in transit! (On the other hand, if those five pieces are splintered, then it may have just been poorly packed. Oops!)
Although it can seem daunting at first, assembling a shamisen is actually quite easy. There's only a few important points to be aware of to avoid damaging the wood (both for assembly and disassembly), but once you become comfortable with the process, you can effortlessly assemble a shamisen in under a minute. (However, better to take your time at first!)

Hello pls respond, I’ve exhausted every means and I’m still having trouble putting the sao onto dou. I’m a complete beginner and I’ve bought a nagauta shamisen off Etsy. And no matter how hard I tried it just won’t stay on and fully connect. Please help! 🙏🏼

Hi Koki! I would love to help! Would it be possible to upload a video of yourself trying to put the sao on the dou? It will help me figure out a solution for your problem. :-) Thank you! - Kyle

Is the sao not fully connecting to the dou, as in, is it wiggling a lot and it’s loose?

hi! i was wondering, after fully assembling the shamisen, what comes next?

Hi! After assembling, the next step would be to attach the doukake, then neo+strings. :) At this point, you can also attach the dou gomu on if you have one!

@@TsugaruShamisen do you think you could do a video on that? Unless there already is one 😢

I’m left handed and I know you have a page that talks about making your shamisen left handed but I’m still sort of confused. Would you consider making a video on how to make your shamisen left hand friendly?

Like will the itamaki be weird reversing the string order?

Ah, very good point! Yes indeed, this would be very worthy of making a video for. I'll add it to my list of videos projects, hopefully would be able to make and upload it in a few months! :)
