Can You Replace a Full Time Job with Low STR Items? - Your Q&A

  • There are MANY ways to be successful on eBay. There are many paths to success with some paths being faster than others. I am here to tell you that it IS possible to make a full time living selling low ASP and low STR items. Anyone shocked that I am saying this? The problem is, the low ASP, low STR path is a much slower path that will require more capital.
I get alot of flack for talking about low ASP/STR and there really is no agenda on my part. What do I care if someone wants to go down this path? The only issue I have is there are many impressionable new sellers out there who see this business model and think they can jump right in and that anything will sell quickly because they have seen it on RUclips. The reality is, for these new sellers, to make this model work, it will require years of building and quite a bit of money. Those who are trying to resell to replace an income may not have this kind of time and may end up quitting.
Lets talk about his and any other topics you want to discuss on todays live.

It would benefit every new reseller if they could see this video/understand the message. Bc you're right: starting out, it's extremely difficult to do enough volume to make a living with low ASP and/or have a low STR because you will have no cash flow. Esp when you need to take money out of your business to pay bills. When I started selling 2 yrs ago, I watched a lot of reseller RUclips and never heard someone say that!

lowest price beats out STR 99% of the time if all else is the same. Just one example. I sold a card today with 3 sold average each month out of current listings of 165. A 1.8% STR. Why? Because I had the lowest price. No promotions.

Anyone can earn a living on reselling if the person just has a sense for sourcing hot flippable items. Aim for at least $100 in profit per sale. Easier said than done I know, but thats it. Aim for as few transactions as possible because with many small sales you raise the risk for getting trouble/negatives etc, not worth getting a defect/neg for a $10 item.

    I’ve heard the 70 /30 rule 70% $30-$50 30%-$ 30%-$60-$100and up

Jena, I bought several rolls of the 3" tape and I can't use it because the smell really bothers me. I would be happy to send it your way.

You don’t have to do that. Jon did order some it was just delayed by USPS. Thank you so much for your kindness and offering.

Why Promotion % sucks. Promotion % vs lowering price %. Promotion % is on the total amount of the sell including shipping, fees and taxes so you actually lose more money on the item's profit than the percentage paid. Lowering the cost by the same percentage actually loses less than the percentage reduction because the fees are then based on an overall lower cost.
Also, assuming your buyers aren't idiots, they will most likely search by lowest plus shipping so your lower price will be higher ranked. A promoted item of higher cost will not rank higher unless Ebay wants to get hit by a Bait and Switch lawsuit when someone searches for lowest.

The promotion % was created to catch the uniformed or dumb buyers that do not know how to search for best prices on Ebay. Uninformed or dumb buyers cause more problems for sellers.

Bingo. And eBay's so-called "AI" search engine wouldn't be necessary if buyers knew search engine basics (quotes around words to search for that exact string, using a hypen to exclude words, etc.). People figured it out in the 90s, not hard.

James - My Great Reseller Life- has said many times the money invested to create his inventory and have the store he has that turns a good profit - all out of his home. Go watch his daily videos , he covers this topic endlessly

I know of James. He is one example where there are many hours, days, months and years of time going into building all of that. Not to mention over time the amount of money required to build such a large store. This is something a new person would be foolish to take on if they needed to generate job replacing income now. It would take a long time to get to where he is with his store.
