    A Baakh is an amalgamation of geography, economics, physiology and local folklore. This contention becomes all the clearer when one sees that the main narratives flowing through a baakh are inextricable connected to the stories underpinning the lives of the Dogra people. One of these narratives is the martial creed of the Dogras.
    The song and music is spontaneous and inspiring and the ideas flow without any pre-conceived thought. It produces a thrilling effect to relax the weary mind and body. It is highlymeditative in nature. It is more soothing when sung from a high mound or hilltop in the latehours of the day, when silence rains from the sky. These songs mostly depict social romantic picture of the Dogra hills. They need no instrument to maintain tone and rhythm. They aresung by a group of four to six singers. They sit in a circle and cover the ears with index finger to concentrate on correct notes.
    Bhaakhan
    are not merely songs of jubilation but they mirror emotions of people of a particular area arising out of social, political, economic andgeographical conditions of that area and argues that the local element that is represented in
    Bhaakh
    reflects the impact of the local conditions related to work, festivals, jobs and life-style. Geography plays a vital role in shaping the history of any nation. The mountains, plains, rivers, climate, rainfall, flora and fauna and fertility of land have been key factors inurging men from ancient times to migrate to better pastures, settle in fertile lands, and fightfor the protection of their lands and survival. Large communities have generally accepted thegeographical conditions and framed their lives as per the conditions. With the passage of time people have also brought changes in the geographical structures to make their lives morecomfortable.
