If you lose balance, it's okay to stabilize yourself. Even with bilateral exercises (two legs or two arms). Even a finger or two can make a difference! I used to be such a stickler on form. Reps wouldn't "count" unless they were done with picture perfect form. Eventually, I realized that effort is effort. Perfection matters when we're competing or if we're performing art (like ballet or gymnastics). However, in training, it's okay if things aren't perfect. Just stay safe! Dramatic Spanish voiceover by my friend Diego.
I like this channel and your ability to motivate gently, but am a bit skeptical of this. Good form indicates our ability to do the exercise in a controlled fashion without hurting ourselves. Rather than assisted reps, shouldnt it be better to do a lighter exercise with good form?
@@antondelacruz9362 I think when it comes to weighted stuff you're right (i.e. if you can't do a certain weight without assistance go lower to get better form), but I think this vid was saying that if you lose balance during an exercise that kind of needs it (usually unilateral stuff), don't press yourself bc holding onto something for balance assistance makes your form "imperfect". It's not that you're struggling because it's too heavy and it's a risk, it can just be hard to balance on 1 foot/arm sometimes 😭
This channel singlehandedly encouraged me from doing absolutely 0 exercise and barely going out of bed to walking an hour everyday and going to the gym, might not be much but considering where i was it's a night and day difference. Thank you.
Its not 'small' progress, it IS a lot. Be proud of yourself and keep going! And remember, where motivation might fail sometimes, discipline has its back!
As a ballet dancer, you’re supposed to place your hand on the barre and gently let it stabilize you, not grab it too hard or lean on it. That way you’re still actively balancing but don’t risk falling. The balance gets better as you go. ❤
Actually seriously thank you for this. I’ve been really self-conscious about my form while working out lately and this is exactly what I needed to hear.
I seriously love watching your videos, you played a big part (and still do) in the decition of working out not to loose weight but to take care of my body
This is a very important message! I was the same way for years! You're totally right, though - aside from setting aside pride, it's also important to build strength before balance. Aiming for balance (mainly in moves that are more advanced for wherever you currently are) without the muscles to SUPPORT that balance can actually lead to injuries, especially ligament strain.

I was always so much of a stubborn person when I trained, I'm much better now and am focusing on rebuilding muscle after a prolonged hospital stay, your channel has helped a lot.
Good advice. I use my form to evaluate my strength and endurance. If I can’t do the movement with good form, I need to get stronger; if I can do only a few before my form degrades, I need endurance. At both points of ‘failure’ I use assistance.
Oh I thought I was doing something wrong this whole time because I'll see fitness people on youtube not wobble at all 😅😅😅 My sense of balance doesn't suck that much but sometimes I do wobble. I do keep in mind that I am still a beginner but I thought I'd be cheating myself if I held onto something to stabilize myself. Thank you for changing my mind! 💙💙💙
Because of Brother Hampton, I've been training pistol squats for a good 6 months now. Using assistance from the beginning goes a long way in helping with improving. I can do 2 good ones without assistance.

Tysm for this. The seizures these last few years have obliterated my balance and I’m trying to figure out how to get as effortlessly fit as I was before.
You my friend are amazing, because of you I have finally started doing some easier workouts from home via your routine on the website. I've always had trouble being consistent and impatient with gym and other exercises have felt overwhelming but now I feel like there is hope even for me. If anyone have tips how to stay on track please give me some, I need all the inspiration I can get, much love!
Brother Hampton, you cannot have me laughing this hard at 05:52 this morning! 🤣 😂 I cannot be the only one who thought of every anime character who had some serious inner monolog with themselves after being disappointed with themselves about something. 😂🤣 Hope all is well y'all! Always wishing for excellent health, increased wisdom, protection, prosperity, peace, lots of love, laughter, and true happiness. Sending hugs of encouragement and hope. Have a beautiful day! 😇👋🏽
I thought the inner thoughts thing was going to be another language but it was in Spanish and I was like finally I understand it. Really like this dude
Great example. All humans should be like this! I guess it does take time, introspection and a willingness to identify and correct unhelpful attitudes, like anger over imperfection. Hampton - that’s a great thought regarding aids, period. All of us make mistakes and don’t do things perfectly. It is reasonable in many instances to use a “balance aid” just to produce most of the desired effect and then see how much better you can get. Not something or someone that allows us to be sloppy, but to be the best you can.

Every little bit of progress compounds, keep it up

Is it weird that I want to see more of Inner Hampton Monologue? LOL
