  • Ian Greer needed everything to go his way on the final round of the 1999 Irish Tarmac Championship and even a win wouldn't be enough to take the title if Bertie Fisher finished in the top 4. Fisher looked to be odds on favouite for a record equalling fifth Irish Tarmc Rally Championship title as he lay in a comfortable third position with the event entering the closing stages. However a minor lapse in concentration saw the Subaru driver leave the road all but handing the title to Greer and co-driver Dean Beckett. Andrew Nesbitt debuted an Impreza WRC on the event, a car which was dominate the Irish rallying landscape for the years ahead.

An end of an era rally in so many ways. Probably the last international where a Group A car had the abilty to win with no attrition. The start of the WRC arms race, with the first WRC Impreza debuted here, and of course the sad end to Fishers tarmac career in such a disappointing way.
