Good morning team! Gil, very interesting. My take on this whole thing.. give me a team that, if the player wants, has a beard, long hair, dreads or otherwise, tattooed, I don't care. As long as they play as a team, on the ice they have the same game plan, they play great defense, excellent goal tending, they kill penalties, put the puck in the net, and win the lion's share of there games, I'll be happy and cheer this team right to the Cup!. Happy Birthday Ray! I remember that awesome series you had in the playoffs against a much better Penguins team, and we sent them home! Everyone, have a great day and wonderful weekend! See you all again at the next episode. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!
I agree with you Tony. I don't think there's a correlation between short hair and hockey success. But hey ,that's Lou. I also was a big Ray Ferraro fan. Thanks for the comment and LGI. Always good to hear from you, Tony.
I work for UPS and back then they had a strict no facial hair policy, now in the last few years they allow you to have a beard as long as it’s lined up, neat and maintained (in other words they don’t want to see what we ate by having crumbs stuck in it) lol.
Great great job that Lamarillo, Great Rule I’ve noticed every player that Cuts there hair and clean shaven there skill level becomes equal to Wayne Gretzky, lol ha ha that’s a joke, Lou Lamarillo needs to worry about much much more than his players facial hair and if they’re clean shaven, always a great show thank Gil
I think Lou should lighten up on the policy, that doesn’t mean you should have a beard looking like Burns does all season, look presentable and professional ! I had to adhere to a para military look my first few years otj but then my assignment changed and I could wear and look however I wanted, looking professional presents an image.
I get it, 25yrsotj. As I said on the show, there is a gap between no facial hair and short hair and looking unpresentable and unprofessional. Lou can keep the policy in general and ease up a it on the specifics, but Lou is gonna Lou. Thanks for the comment, LGI.
I like Lou, but it's ironic that the one free agent he signed pretty much was recruited by the coach. There's something to be said about how players outside the org. look at Lou.
Agreed, maxrates. I hope this policy doesn't hurt the team's chances of signing free agents. Lou belongs in the HOF but as you said, the players outside the organization may not view him favorably. Thanks for the comment. LGI.
Being clean shaven and having short hair is a team policy. If you don't like it, there are 30 other teams you can play for. The Yankees did it for years. There's nothing wrong with wanting your players to look professional. Similar dress policies and shaving policies are prevalent in many police departments and professional companies. If a player doesn't want to sign with the Islanders because of a facial hair policy, he's not the character player I'd want on the team anyway. This is my opinion, as unpopular as I know it is.
Not sure what the issue is? Where were the complaints when Horvat had to shave. It shows team unity. I don’t find it a big deal. Nothing wrong with looking professional. Yankees have been doing this forever. Hair grows back. It shouldn’t be a big deal.
Hockey fans - We want players to have more character. Also hockey fans - Players should all look like Johnny Unitas. While I don't like Lamoriello's policy - I've not seen Anthony Duclair making an issue of this. He posted a picture on his Instagram, he is a human being - although I'm surprise Lou doesn't also have a prohibitive social media policy as well.
I agree, Inveterate-introvert. Duclair has not made an issue of this at all. He knew the policy before he signed here. He may not like it (or he may not care, we don't know) but he seems willing to work with it. I agree on the social media policy but glad that's not the case. Thanks for the comment, LGI.
Will it turn duclair into the 35-40 goal scorer isles need? Louzer needs to focus on putting together a roster that can compete in 21st century nhl and read up on proper cap management instead of worrying about nonsense like that. Louzer is so old school who worries about hair length as east teams make moves. Pens got in on it today getting mcgroarty from jets for jager. Isles simply couldn't offer that as jets wanted = value in a first. Unless eiserman goes d. nelson wouldn't have done it and an elc would be tuff to get under cap for louzer as it stands now. Isles are gonna be so fkd one day thanks to old school fool. Probably gonna shock some people how bad its going to get as louzer watches a lot of laine and mcgroarty light it up this season.
That's Lou for you. The lack of prospects prevented Lou from getting McGroarty but that's where this team is at right now. Not looking forward to seeing him with the Pens. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
Good 🌄, Gil. how are you? Sounds like Lou Lamoriello's getting to be like George Steinbrenner, or even The Cincinnati Reds NO FACIAL HAIR, but he did bend the rules when it came to The Playoff beard since The Islanders started The Playoff beard in the first place. Anthony DuClair is 28 years old, but without the beard and the dreads, he looks like he's 18 years old. Winnipeg traded McGuarty to Pittsburgh, bad news for The Islanders. Kyle McLane played 43 games. He's 25 years old, and he can play well. He's got his father to help him out. HAPPY 🎂, RAY FERRARO. He made the 40 40 club in his first season as an Islander. Hear from you later, Gil, and LET'S GO ISLANDERS.
Duclair does look younger without the facial hair and dreads. I was not happy about McGroarty going to Pittsburgh. I am rooting for MacLean. Big fan of Ferraro back in the day. Thanks for the comment, Cindy. Have a great weekend and LGI.
@LockedOnIslanders no problem Gil but there's no need for hope they will be animals up there sorokin is coming back as a beast too I guarantee it roy will not take it easy on him
Hey Gil -Ok so my thought on this is that I don't like any of Lou's rules and I'll explain why. First off I see everyone saying well the Yankees make their players do this so we should also and the answer is we have only 4 Stanley Cups consecutively in the 80's compared to the Yankees Championships and it's not even close. That being said I'm sure all teams have certain rules but none are so publicly known like Lou's and somehow those rules haven't won any Stanley Cups so they don't make much sense from my point of view but I will say this lets say your a top goal scorer who has under 10 NHL years in the league and you get traded at the deadline to the Isles and you wear number 97 and have long hair or a beard and you now have to move to a new city, shave your beard or cut your hair and get a new number not because it's taken but because Lou doesn't like higher numbers. So you now aren't just with a new squad but your basically a new person now and your expected to keep up your stats to help the team quickly to win. This team has a hard enough time attracting Free Agents to sign here without guys having to deal with an old mans rules for adults who are paid to play the sport. I don't like the idea however if we had the track record of the Lightning or Bruins it would be easier to sell these rules because winning fixes anything.
You’re The Man Gil !!!! I think 80 plus year old Lou should retire and let the players express themselves within reason! Swag! Intimidating appearance! Totally agree With You and Lou’s policy! Wake up Lou ! Get with the times! Let players look the way they want but with professional swag! Loosen up Lou! Retire! The contracts of Mayfield n Engvall alone should of had Lou fired
He signed as a free agent so hopefully they told him prior. I feel bad for players who get traded there. What about freedom of expression? Guess it doesn’t exist for some teams… hair doesn’t affect how you play Lou!!!
He definitely knew before he signed. I also am not a fan of the policy and no, it doesn't make you a better hockey player if you have short hair. Thanks for the comment, Johnny Reno71.
Why doesn't Lou shave his head and go bald and go hairless in order to adhere and embrace the concept of team over identity I think it would be great for Lou to shave his head and embrace the Islanders culture and identity
I would agree with a 'neat' rule. Lou's grooming and low number rules go too far. Nobody can convince me there aren't a few NHL players who won't even consider coming to the Islanders and dealing with Lou's nonsense. The number thing is really obnoxious because he can't dress it up as promoting team cohesion. It's just an old man imposing his superstition on others. Many players are very so attached to their number they compensate a new teammate to change theirs to they don't have to. I'm so sick of Yoda.
Kind of indicative of modern times that people are worried about length of hair and facial hair. Who made up the rule that women can have long hair, and men can't? Absurd
A lot to do about nothing. Duclair most likely posted it as a joke, not realizing the social media stupidity. He could have went to any number of teams and possibly for more money. He chose to be an Islander. Like Kyle Palmeri, Bo Horvat, JG that meant conforming to the grooming standards of your employer. I never hear players on the Islanders complain about Lou’s Rules, I guess they buy into the professionalism they foster. Lou takes a hell of a lot of crap and criticism. He is the best GM since Bill Torrey. I think he is also doing a great job mentoring Patrick for GM/Coach positions. You’re talking two Hall of Fame guys. If Islanders breakout this year he will be praised a an Old School Master. You join an organization you follow grooming and dress standards, it’s called a job. The Liberal police are looking for a story here there isn’t any. They know nothing about hockey, but that’s just their norm about any subject.
lou the best gm since torrey? haha at least milbury once had the nhl's top system loaded with grade a prospects. And snow put most of this roster together finding 27, 53, 3, 30 and others outside of the first round and completely stole barzal first in deal with oil. Results in 20th century don't mean shit in 2024 when a thing called a salary cap exists not to be mismanaged. louzer can thank trotz for taking his sub par roster to back to back cf's. louzer is the run it back champ of 2024.
@@empirestateconstructionllc2336sure would. first business-dumped bad deals for future cap space. then trotz made a free agent splash too. something louzer only wishes he could do.
That’s what I was thinking when he posted his story it was a joke and having the emoji I laughed but his story gave some people to tweet about the rule that Lou has put under for the players.
It shows me that Mr duclair is very serious about this trade and he's ready us islanders are gonna make him feel right at home
He signed with the Isles knowing the policy. He's serious and I can't wait to see him on the ice. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
