in the book, when prince rilian is under the spell he was very carefree and he kept on laughing. he didnt have anger managment problems and he didnt cover his face with that wierd helmet either. and he wasnt crazy.
But his laughter was that of an insane person ... under a spell. The problem with the written word is that it doesn't always translate to the reader in the way the character was intended to be drawn ... so perhaps C.S. Lewis intended insanity laughter, or carefree laughter. I only think it is insane/spell laughter because I've heard a few interpretations by voice actors who performed it as such, and it felt the right tone ... so right that I didn't question it. Interesting :)
ellenkingsley and what was it with those clips that bound Rilian to the silver chair? He would have broken free too easily, not a bad thing as he was under an evil enchantment. Cords were mentioned in the book.
@jushyosaha604 ur right - in the book Prince Rillian was charming and didn't have anger management issues. He didn't spit on little girls either (4:11-12).
Yeah, it was creepier in the book, he was very patronising and condescending. He seemed sensible, but would randomly burst into laughter for no reason, as if he were insane. Pretty weird combination.
It would also be interesting to see a version truer to the original dialogue and story. Perhaps 'brief' the audience on the English era in which C.S. Lewis wrote his story, alluding to the colloquialisms now often edited for 'modern audiences'. As films are essentially literature visualized, I think 'dumbing it down' for digestibility can gloss over the human experience that is the heart of the books. :)
04:43...that still scares me. Barbara Kellerman was the Green Lady. When I was a kid I thought it was the White Witch that had returned. is there any connection between the two characters, apart from the same actress and being at that particular time in Narnia, the most evil "witch" around?
It is fair to say that the Queen of the Deep Realm inspired J.K.Rowling to create Salazar Slytherin, Lord Voldemort and Nagini because of their association with Snakes.
Yes, that’s right, it follows dude 😂 shrieking, “What?! Is the little maid a deep politician?!” And he was so in Jill’s face. Presumably she didn’t dare to spit back in retaliation.
I know he's supposed to be enchanted, but in the book he seemed to me to be lighthearted and a bit arrogant, laughing and not at all concerned for anything.

The full verse that Rilian says is, “Though under earth and throneless now I be, Yet while I lived all earth was under me”. Note how he wasn’t looking at Jill, Eustace and Puddleglum while speaking.
Some takes on what the characters say. Eustace: A silver chair! Jill: It’s beautiful! Cheesy! Looks can be deceiving. Rilian: Beautiful? Under its enchantment I’ll become furious in rage. Overstated! Don’t we already know he can get angry?
You realise she's the same witch don't you, that's the whole point. A witch is never dead whilst evil resides in the land. come on, bro, read the books.
0:38 When the knight is shouting the catering orders up the stairs, he also says afterwards, “Please you be seated, gentlemen”. I don’t think Jill is a gentleman, more like a lady lol 😂. That bit got left out for some reason.
At 7:35 the screaming sounds like Rilian has injured himself. In the book he was just moaning, and didn’t scream until later during his hour of being bound to the silver chair. Also the alternating scenes of the Green Lady shrieking at the earthmen at the diggings, were a tad overdone, she was also over the top. A lot of the interaction between the quartet at the table was excised. Also there’s no explanation of why Rilian says the mask is accursed.
these films were seriously low budget.. lol the same lady plays all three female villians.. she plays the white witch, the witch in prince caspian, and she plays the green lady... ... bleh! lol
The witch the same lady plays in Prince Caspian, was really the White Witch, well an attempt was made by three bad characters to bring her back through witchcraft as I remember.

They don't make kids TV like this anymore. Growing up watching this (and Doctor Who) inflamed my imagination like nothing else

Rilian bound to the silver chair used to scare me

This is only my second time seeing the Silver Chair and he really doesn't know the meaning of the word "boundaries".
I had a crush on Barbara Kellerman when I was little. I was a strange kid...
walden media is doing the Magician's Nephew next :) the silver chair is the most frightening one but also brilliant :)
Me too. I hate it when people invade my personal bubble.
Yeah, it was creepier in the book, he was very patronising and condescending. He seemed sensible, but would randomly burst into laughter for no reason, as if he were insane. Pretty weird combination.
Yeah. That's how crazy people act.
Well he was just the littlest bit crazy because he was under the spell.... but not at all like they show him in this!

Man, that chair looks seriously uncomfortable.
dude lets out a big spit on jill's face at 4:12

This whole segment is rather freaky... :P
yes....psychotic bug eyes would make a WONDERFUL queen suuuuurrrreee
I know he's supposed to be enchanted, but in the book he seemed to me to be lighthearted and a bit arrogant, laughing and not at all concerned for anything.
He’s a pretty angry dude in this BBC adaptation, but he eventually lightens up and laughs a little over the meal.

@jushyosaha604 well you have to respect the film for getting lots of other things the same as the book.
1:40 “An empty cup, Frogfoot, suffer me to refill it”. Puddleglum doesn’t thank the knight. He’s probably thinking, “Frogfoot? I’m a Marshwiggle, mate!”
3:46 Uh...creepy...
They stopped after this movie due to financial reasons.

Me too...disney is going to do all of them.
It's kinda creepy that Rillian seems to be hitting on Jill... :l
Yes he’s holding her face, but bear in mind, he’s not in his right mind.
I think all three witches are the same anyway.
What are the three witches? I know the White Witch and the Lady of the Green Kirtle, who is the third?
@@pittland44 good question. A third witch in the chronicles? I thought there were only two witches.

I think The Silver Chair may have got the idea of Prince Rilian wearing the mask from RoboCop.
@Hellgrox101NT604comm That's true

Notice the cobwebs at 7:35.
