Das Evangelium zu diesem Sonntag, Lukas 19, 41-48, berichtet, wie Jesus die Zerstörung Jerusalems voraussagt und wie er den Tempel reinigt. Der unbekannte Textdichter geht vom ersten Teil aus, wo es heisst, Jesus habe über die Stadt geweint und gesagt: «Wenn doch an diesem Tag auch du erkenntest, was zum Frieden führt.» Er schildert drastisch das schreckliche Gericht und ermahnt das unbussfertige Volk. Bachs 1723 in Leip­zig entstandene Vertonung bewegt sich dementsprechend in ihrer aparten Instrumentierung und ihrem sensiblen Tonfall zwischen Klage, Strafandrohung und Vergebungszusage.

Can't understand a word they're saying but to have such a large room of folks to discuss J.S. Bach for 44 minutes is why the Germans are music experts...

These are Swiss people. There should be a translation available on the Bachstiftung website. However, if you want I can try and make a translation of this workshop on one of my favourite cantatas for you.

@@rjwusher Lutz is Swiss, but Maul is from Leipzig. The former has a strong Alemannic accent while the latter has an Upper Saxon accent.

That whole team are just phenomenal but on an occasion like this it unfortunately shows the inadequacy of digital pianos albeit it is fabulous how digital pianos have advanced and you can carry them! In the context of a band they do a great job especially when you can add appropriate effects; but for Bach, particularly in this isolated way . . Afraid not I’m not criticising their use for occasions like this where it is a very practical and adequate arrangement but I was surprised at just how inadequate. Sorry I don’t speak German but I feel more German than Scottish in particular with culture. I wish I had moved there years ago but alas I’m too old now. Thank you for these truly amazing Bach videos with such superlative standards.
