Whitespine Uncaged was an incredible chapter. I was pacing around the house reading it.
Spoilers for the chapter if you haven't read it.
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
"Dalinar turned upon the stands full of spectating lighteyes. "You can watch this?" he shouted at them. "My sons fight alone! There are Shardbearers among you. Is there not one of you who will fight with them?"
He scanned the crowd. The king was looking at his feet. Amaram. What of Amaram? Dalinar found him seated near the king. Dalinar met the man's eyes.
    Amaram looked away.
    No...
"What has happened to us?" Dalinar asked. "Where is our honor?"
"Honor is dead," a voice whispered from beside him.
Dalinar turned and looked at Captain Kaladin. He hadn't noticed the bridgeman walking down the steps behind him.
Kaladin took a deep breath, then looked at Dalinar. "But I'll see what I can do. If this goes poorly, take care of my men." Spear in hand, he grabbed the wall and flung himself over, dropping to the sands of the arena floor below."
    I get chills every time.

    *Spoilers*
While Whitespine Uncaged is one of my favorite chapters I need to mention the scene where Kal finally becomes Radiant. That moment where he says, "the knights radiant have returned" had me so hyped I was pumping my fist like a huge nerd. We all knew it was coming but just the two books building up to that moment and having it finally happen in an epic way was huge.

My feeling with Sanderson is that his main characters are some of his most 2 dimensional. I'm not saying that Vin and Kaladin don't have depth, but they are more one note than people like Dalinar and Elend. That being said, I love the worldbuilding of the Cosmere. I enjoy living in these worlds and the length of Stormlight just does it for me over many of his other works. White Spine Uncaged is one of the best chapters in any book and I can't wait for it to be on the screen in the future.

    • @thefantasynuttwork
      @thefantasynuttwork  3 года назад +2

Yeah!!! That chapter is one of the greatest of all time Imo. I do think Kaladin gets much more nuanced by the end of RoW, and I couldn't agree more about loving the worlds he creates

I agree about shallan being a more compelling Charachter than Kaladin. Kaladin is great but he's something we've seen before but probably the best it's ever been done. To me though Shallan feels like something new that we haven't seen before in a fantasy epic. I also have dalinar as my favorite Charachter as well.

Would you recommend reading the tie-in novels before continuing with Stormlight? I finished Way of Kings about a week back and I’ve been making my way through Warbreaker. I’m enjoying it but I really want to get to the rest of Stormlight. Having caught up and assuming that you’ve read all the tie-in novels, would you recommend reading them?
