- Опубликовано: 18 окт 2016
- Dr. Nakamatsu, colloquially known as Dr. NakaMats, claims to be the most prolific inventor in the world. He holds 3,500 patents and counting-more than any other inventor living or dead. He recently celebrated his 88th birthday and plans to live to 144, while dealing with his greatest challenge yet: treating his cancer.
Motherboard met up with Dr. NakaMats at his birthday party to talk about the importance of inventing, and why he plans to keep innovating for another 60 years.

"Therefore, i must invent new therapy for cancer" i love this guy, such a positive outlook on life.
He is ready for the coming 60 years :D
He invented a song tho.... Pretty sure the fact that he isn't dead yet isn't proof that his song works lol
He actually cured his own cancer, a certain diet, and an invention of his.
I know im asking the wrong place but does anyone know a trick to log back into an Instagram account..?
I somehow lost my account password. I would love any tips you can offer me!
@Vance Leon instablaster :)
He is 94 now
"Mmuseumm"
I thought that was a typo
it was when they registered the name but just decided to stick with it.
Wants to live to 144. 3.5 inch floppy disk holds 1.44 megabytes. Illuminati confirmed.
Therefore Sir Dr. NakaMats is a floppy disk!
you are very dense
***** you had 17 weeks to realize my comment was a joke and still failed while pretty much copy pasting said joke but made it more obvious. I bet you are overcompensating for your permanently floppy 3"1/2
***** I forgive you. It's probably not your fault
it can now be mathematically asserted, we know the length of his sausage
I imagined 26 brains in a cryochamber.
or Cryo-jars on display in his little museum
You are right actually
what a genuine bloke. i love how optimistic he is yet down to earth and intelligent.
I have very heavy cancer. no therapy. therefore, I must invent new therapy for cancer -- .. Man, I'm 20 and I don't even have that kind of confidence in myself.. thats inspiring
I bet his great great great great .... great ancestors invented fire.
Dr. NakaMats holds more than 3,500 patents. Here are some of our favorites: protective envelopes for floppy disks, condoms with embedded magnets, spectacles that look like eyes, and a wig that can be used for self defense.

@@mrnx6511 He's still alive, this guy knows something the rest of us don't
The best thing was when he said, "I have a very heavy cancer. Very difficult cancer. There is no therapy. Therefore, I must invent new therapy for cancer."
The best attitude i've ever seen lately! This is AMAZING, the best! Keep going & inspiring us Dr. NakaMats! Thanks so much to Motherboard for sharing this amazing story, hoping, praying & wishing to see him live up to 144 years old or even more! Thank you so much!!
He's still alive in 2023, despite his doctors telling him he wouldn't see the end of 2015. Looks like his self-therapy is working :)
Imagine Tesla getting the same respect, I wish he could have been remembered and honoured in his life like this man has had.
truely inspiring person
He still has the optimistic joy of a young man. I hope to be like him when I'm 88.

And then just brushed it off xD
God Bless you Dr. NakaMats. I've always enjoyed watching you and may you live another 100 years.
I recommend everyone to watch the documentary about him. It's quite good. This man is just too fascinating!

this guy will live on for much more than 60 years.
i so want to see the guard wig with ninja weapon inside.

Inspirational, to the last drop. It would be an honour to meet him.
"I hope this therapy will be more effective next year"
Bruno Fuentes RIP in peace Dr NagaMatz
i love him so much and i hope he never dies
this seems pretty sad. poor guy is just trying to be optimistic even though he has untreatable cancer.
60 more years
120 more years
420 more years
Is just a guy with a cool sense of humor.
i hope he never dies
He's still alive at 92 and a half years.
I've wanted to be an inventor since I was 4. He is a legend
This guy seems like the Vanilla Ice of the tech world. He 'invented' the 3.5" diskette two years after the industry had already settled on the 3.5" floppy and more than a decade after the first company began using hard casings for disks? Sounds legit. Look up his patents and notice how every one of them are either exact descriptions of already existing technology or existing technology with slight, meaningless tweaks. How else could he possibly claim to have invented goggles, swim trunks or any of the other things that existed up to 2,000 years before he was born? Or is he claiming that in those 2,000 years he was the first person to put a weapon under a wig? Oh, right, his patent actually does claim that...
It would be cool to see him as a cyberpunk character.
A guy who invented internal life, by splitting in brain into 26 parts, on machines storing data on mega floppy disks.
So nice to see him still charging on today
Yup. This guy invented so many great stuffs throughout his life time, except a machine that can help to regrow a new pair of legs for him so he can toss the wheelchair away for good
Didn't casey neistat film this in his vlogs?
magisterartium dat nigga ugly
+Fuk Qo Bic Nga you ugly! very much so.

He loves to be praised.
Respect!A legend.
Oh, so THIS is what Casey had to blur out in the blog. Cool exhibit.
Taylor White what in the world was cool about this faux-musuem?
i secretly seek to be this humble along my life
Longue vie à vous Docteur Nakamatsu.
i realy dont want to get old
Mr Alan Shugart invented the Floppy Disk in 1967 for IBM.... look it up!
Now, this is my favourite anime ever.
With the Versace belt buckle
Isn't this the mini museum by Casey Neistat's Studio?
AaronTownsend TV fuck Casey Neistat
Okay 😉

Legend
Pretty humble fellow! :D
now i want to invent
After the Edison comparison, I can't help but wonder if this guy is/was an inventor or an "inventor"
He invented the floppy disk, retractable landing gear and the digital watch this guy is an inventor
THIS IS WHAT THEY WERE SHOOTING IN CASEYS VIDEO!
What a boss!
Great guy
He's so cool
I love this guy
I met this guy in Tokyo in 2012 and got a picture with him.
I like him , but definite delusions of grandeur . .
donlu dela brew oh come on, after inventing 3500 things and counting you can be proud and optimistic !
is it a delusion if he's actually achieved something though?
The guy is still alive omg. Cancer therapy working
I want a ninja wig! lol ... he invents in hopes to inspire, I can definitely appreciate that!
This guy seems to have bogus claims. For instance the claim that he invented the floppy disk is outright absurd.
IBM has kept the creator of the floppy disk a secret. However, if you look around a lot of people do give him credit for inventing the floppy disk. No way to know if the claim is bogus or not, and I am not sure why you're so ready to toss him out the window for the claim. Especially since there is no one else coming forward to refute the claim.
Alan Shugart worked with a team that invented the floppy disk.
WD is better than Seagate
He seems like he just invents things very easily. New cancer therapy? I got it!
I really want to know how that guard wig works. 😂
Boy howdy he sure does like Versace
I feel like this guy might be misleading
no he is pretty legit,he invented the Floppy disk! that was what we would use for programs and games before the CD
I know what a floppy disk is. And even his claims about selling the floppy patent to ibm seem off. Most articles on him use there words carefully saying "NakaMats claims." Like there not sure about him. Probably because its strange for someone to invent something technical like a floppy disk and then make something stupid and nonsensical like condoms with magnet in them.
lol,well u got a point :D
I know what a floppy is I used them with my old mpc and for passing around python racing sims back in the day.
Dr. NakaMats received a Japanese patent in 1952, this virgin birth is disputed by IBM, which insists its own team of engineers developed the device in 1969. Still, to avoid conflicts, Big Blue struck a series of licensing agreements with him in 1979.
I'm going to side with IBM. Even most articles on this guy are use there words carefully to say that is inventions are only claims.
Ibm says. The first floppy disk was invented by a team of researchers at IBM. The team was headed by Alan Shugart and the main designer in the team was David Noble.
As much as I want to believe this awesome guy for inventing floppy disk, most Google searches state "a team at IBM" invented it, can anyone explain me a little on this.
I'm a bit late, but that's okay, doctor nakamatsu invented a precursor device for the floppy disk, which was made of paper, which if confirmed is that he sold several dozen patents to ibm, nakamatsu says they were for the floppy disk, ibm says no, we don't know who is telling the truth.
man my nigga got swag to the max. what a great loving guy
can some one give me a song title at... 1:16.... I think its Tchaikovsky, but don't know the title.
Haye nagamatsu san!!!! *bows*
definitely the museum from mr. neistat's video. can confirm.
NINJA WIG! Lmao!... Best fuckin thing I've heard all year!... How about Ninja, Tampons?!, next time a dude won't leave a chic alone at the bar, she can just pull it out her purse and wave it around! Million $$ idea! Who want to help out with my kick starter!...
Is this the Museum round the corner from Casey's studio?
Yep.
does he still swim till almost blackout everyday?
am I the only like one that cried during this vid...
Love u bro
did he actually invent all this? or did he just fund/patent these things?
Damian Damianio invented
Temp Temp
then this guy deserves more fame... what an amazing man to invent so much stuff!
The guy doesn't have proof of over half of his patents. There is no record of his patent on the floppy disk casing, not in any patent office or at IBM, which were the leading developer of the floppy disk.
He may be inventive, but in a lot of way, he's a big phony.
Alan Shugart and his team invented the floppy disk.
That casing must have made him a fair amount of money -- probably enough to spend the rest of his life attempting to invent other useful things.
this is near caseys office 😁
"Docta NakaMatSUUU!!!!" Hahaha
Im gonna live to 144 years old.
I have cancer
2024 he is still alive
I thought he means those 7 people as 700 people waiting... but they actually came 700 people
Is this the same mini museum that was featured in one of Casey Neistat's videos ?
looks like it. not sure tho
P3R50N which episode was that
I am Killin' it I believe it's the one in "My Friends!" I think he had one or two other videos about it.
Based upon a patent issued in 1952, Nakamatsu claims to have invented the first floppy disk[31] well before IBM's floppy disk patent was filed in 1969.[32] However, what Nakamatsu patented in 1952 was a paper for optical sound player.[16] In contrast to a floppy disk, this Nakamatsu patent discloses the use of printed paper for storage instead of the magnetic material of a floppy disk. It is not rewritable and lacks most elements of the IBM floppy disk patent. Since the paper was 'floppy' material, he claims he had invented the floppy disk (sometimes he uses the phrase "floppy media"); however, it should be noted that flexible magnetic recording media was well known prior to 1952, in tape and wire recording.
dah-kah-mah-tzu!!!!
That look like is close to caseys work place
I remember the vlog where he showed this
Frankly anyone with funds can be an inventor
Daaaaamn! I clicked on this sooo quick the second I saw it! I legit thought all that stuff in the back was a bunch of bongs he made and we were gonna watch him "party" his ass off with them. Boy am I disappointed 😐
May we all be graced by his poowwaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!
He should go to san francisco to work with the Hiv doctor on cancer treatment. (cannabis)
owns patents only means he owns allot of useless ideas. You can patent any idea you can describe. I could patent a teleportation device with only a crude drawing and brief description.
That said, he definitely is an amazing man and his world views seem very enlightened, and he definitely changed computers, or at least invented the storage media that happened to become popular (other superior formats existed at the timer BTW so without him not much would change there).
Pad and Pen ding
damn that is so fucking rad
one guy, 3500 inventions !.
Nakamatsu Sama ganbatte odaijini
onegai
This guy invented the floppy disk? Holy fucking shit man.
I remember this in Casey Neistat's vlog!
❤
isn't that the alley near Casey neistas office?
I was thinking the same thing!
Clock+Mouse=Clockmouse. A Clock inside a mouse!
