  • Romney Marsh, especially Dungeness and including Rye Harbour, is a nationally important site by reason of a diverse range of biological and geological features, specifically the coastal geomorphology of Dungeness and the following nationally important habitats: saltmarsh, sand dunes, vegetated shingle, saline lagoons, standing waters, lowland ditch systems, and basin fens. These habitats and others within the site support the interests of nationally important species. For more information follow this link: theromneymarsh...

Martello Towers were built during the Napoleonic wars as coastal strong points, there was a chain of them along the south coast. They often had a cannon mounted on top of the tower with an all round field of fire. There is a nice example at Seaford near Newhaven. Nice video C J, I like Rye Harbour as well 👍

That's really interesting info....thanks for letting me know. I find it a shame when I find things like this without much info so great to know when and what they were used for

That looks a lovely park up, what an interesting area, the shingle areas reminded me so much of the beaches I grew up near, all stone with just a few sand dunes lol

Crazy what actually exists in the UK...so much variety in such a small island.

You were right on my doorstep. 😁 The Rye harbour area is great on a nice day, bloody harsh in the winter. I know the carpark you were in at the end of the video. Footlands wood is a nice one to explore. Regards JB.

@@WilderhopeAdventures If in the area again, worth going a bit more east to Dungeness. Only desert in the UK. Its an odd place. 👍
