You've done an amazing amount of work over winter and it's exciting to see all the potential of your new growing areas Sarah. I hope you have a great food crop. 🍅🍆🌽🍓 Hey everyone, with the massive predicted food shortages, I think we flower growers are well placed to help our local communities by growing as many vegetables as we can. Even a small amount of growing space can be utilized between flowers. Maybe share seeds with family and friends too and don't forget to save flower and vegetable seed for the coming year.
Hi Sarah, your poor greenhouse, my hubby had to replace glass this time last year, he was gutted when a storm happened and smashed all the new panes he had just bought so, he used polycarbonate sheets instead, up to now its still OK. You are right with the cooler temperatures thus year, very slow growing plants, I still have my propogator on the go at home. The compost is very hit and miss, some I have bought, have been awful, too much chunky bits in them so, when I seived the compost, for my seeds, there was so much of it and hardly any seived compost left out of a whole 40L bag! It's going to be very difficult to find a good compost in the bear future as we ate going peat free. I have purchased a large wooden compost bin and hoping to make more of my own. You have.a lot of growing, great update. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
All looks great. Hard to keep positive when you have suffered so much loss but things will pick up soon. I had really poor germination with organic peat free compost from Debbie's and it wasted so many of my good seeds, it was awful - like sand. I got a different type and also found that if I covered my trays with cling film after sowing & watering the seeds they germinated really fast. I took off the cling film after 3/4 days
All my spring flowers have started blooming!! My first Sunflower has opened today!!!!! 2023 sunflowers started in January!!!!!! First week!! Believe it or not!
Sorry for the passing of your sweet dog. The no dig looks outstanding, I'm planning my veg patch now, it's going to be smaller this yr. I have several flowers sown and can not wait for my days to warm enough to get planting. I'm on the shore in Maryland in the states, all the bulbs are blooming so that's a wonderful sight every day.
I'm just catching up on your videos. YES!!!!! My germination rates have been horrific! Same seeds, same lights, same room. I thought perhaps I got a bad batch of soil, so I started everything over. I'm in the US. New England.
🌈 Thinking of you and your recent loss. Rainbow bridge🌈 Thanks for all your videos they have been so inspiring and informative. Has changed my thinking about growing for the future.
I am I. central Florida, US. Trying to germinate for the first time. Just a few of the seeds germinated and some are quite leggy. Getting ready for round two. You have inspired me to give it a go. I will be watching your podcasts soon. Once bought can I watch more than once?? Thanks! **we spoke about our dogs a few weeks ago on Instagram. I adopted a new boy and named him Brooks. He can’t replace my girl, Payton, but will be a good playmate for Champ, who has been quite sad. How many dogs is too many on a farm? My husband says two is enough in our house. 🤔
Thank you for update, sorry for your dog. I had same problem with snaps but solved it by treating the compost with boiling water and adding peatmoss in to it
Sorry to hear the sad news of losing your dog. I'm sure she will be missed. Hit and miss with some of my seed sowing this year think for me its the sharp fluctuations in temperatures one day nice bright and sunny next freezing and overcast hopefully better weather on it's way and things will catch up. Having a few issues with compost too! The new no dig beds look great.
Sarah it must be hard to germinate outdoors. I'm in zone 3 and have been growing my snapdragons since mid Feb. Everything is probably overgrown but germination is easier to oversee in an inside area. You are my favorite flower farmer along with you can't eat the grass !
My zinnias never seem to do much. I’m in West Yorkshire so not too far from you really. Have you got any tips for caring for them once they’ve germinated. I won’t give up on them as I love them.
I have noticed in your previous videos that you have the pink rat tail statice under row cover. I’m growing it for the first time this year and wondered why you have it covered?
Sarah my flower seed germination has been awful this year aswell and that's with fresh new compost but im the same none of my cosmos have germinated and I've sown 3 times ,im thinking it was theblight levels but my beg seeds have all done fine so I've no idea
Hi all, which annual cut flowers are a must-grow from seed? I'm a beginner and only have a temporary spot to grow so need flowers that will only live once?
Hi Sarah, Great video. So sorry to hear of your dpg passing - they really are like family members. Do you have the name of the company that does regenerative tools please?
Grass clippings are great for compost with your old top soil plus leaves ect. I don't use veg scraps in the garden as it is built up here and it could attract rats and that is the last thing i want lol

Sorry for your loss, I keep potting compost in an empty greenhouse over winter, stops it getting cold and wet.
Thanks for your video Sarah, your an inspiration. So sorry for your loss 🐾❤️
11:48 The rain on the low tunnel here sounds like applause as you show this sweet little seedling.🌿

Sorry to hear about your dog passing Sarah.
I've had horrendous problems with damping off this year. Lost all my Ammi majus crop and a chunk of my Orlaya
At my work I have covered compost bags as soon as they come in as they soon get anaerobic in the weather. Great video

I'm so sorry for you and Rob. Which dog did you lose? I love to see them out with you when you are working.
Never too many zinnias! 😇

I assume you can't germinate things like snapdragons and stock in the germination chamber since they need light?
My snapdragon germination was also terrible as well as the helichrysum bright rose (all other colours ok)
I have noticed in your previous videos that you have the pink rat tail statice under row cover. I’m growing it for the first time this year and wondered why you have it covered?

I've been really struggling to germinate phlox..whats the secret?
Grass clippings are great for compost with your old top soil plus leaves ect. I don't use veg scraps in the garden as it is built up here and it could attract rats and that is the last thing i want lol
p.s There are a lot out there that love to shoot and are happy to contract and do some pest control :)
Sorry about your Dog Sarah it's just so sad to loose a Family pet
