- Logging and skidding timber at my 50 acre wood lot in Western Washington. I am working on cleaning up my property to continue replanting this spring. This is the last 5 acre section I need to recover the blown down timber from before I brush it out and plant new seedlings this spring

Good video. I know the feeling, cutting into what looks like a good tree and finding out it’s rotten.
It really takes the wind out of your sails! I was excited for that log for a long time and it turned out to be a small hemlock top! Dang
Jason, I like person who has jack of all trades master of some. As for I had Army, EMTII, 4-H leader, taught people how cook and bake who could not read.😊
I think you need a longer bar on that saw😂
A longer bar keeps a logger from having to constantly bend over too far. Saves the back
I wish I was running the 36” over the 28”
At 6’4” and arthritic I would much rather be standing upright!
Great videos of when men were men!!
Play safe!
BOY, DOES YOUR UNIT CRY FOR A PRESCRIBED BURN. EASIER LOGGING AND STAND IMPROVEMENT THROUGH REGENERATION. PLEASE CONSIDER THAT OPTION.
Why do you use such a long bar? Looks like a 28 or 32 would be better for the wood you’re in! 8:19
Great work
But why dont you take that other wood pieces and sell them as firewood?
Hey man, great video and I’ll be watching along. Roughly where is your land at? We are up in Mason County.
I'm in Skagit County near Mt. Vernon. Thanks for watching!
Just "saw" your link from MBMMllc from your history video. Didn't know you did forestry. You should tell the mining viewers about your forestry more. Recovering usable wood and recovering usable ore should be in the same interest group.
As well as the safety tips. Widow maker trees are probably more dangerous than hanging walls.
Thanks for watching both channels! I have a video coming out in a few hours that is a cross over vid. We will see how many viewers it pushes over to my logging channel
Love your videos on rock just found the logging…
This is what I do professionally at a mill in the log yard as a buckerman. Out of curiosity, why 32’ and not 33’? allowing trim?
Are you giving space for the mill to buck to allowable standards?
Or am I just taking you too literally? My biggest peave is short log loads cut shy 16’4” and then no room to allow for end checks!! I love a foot to play with so I can still make valuable lumber/timber after I buck and deck.
So good to see you working with Dan and others. 🇨🇦/🇺🇸 We really do enjoy your content.
Thanks
John
Hey man, great video and I’ll be watching along. Roughly where is your land at? We are up in Mason County.
Phew i would love to get $400/mbf in eastern Washington
We dont even get half of that and they expect us to maintain 600k machines in seasonal work!
I grew up kn Naselle Washington. Where is this located. My dad fell timber also.
Home despot sells those shoop de dos as select 2x4s
Haha, yep!
We just use marking paint instead of an axe. Like that long bar. It keeps your head and body farther from harms way.
It's great how you turn trees that are normally considered junk into a valuable product. Love how you turn lemons into lemonade😊. Great video!
Thank you!
i run a clark 667 and a 395 husqvarna . a 440 deere and a stihl . oh boy around here we call you a farmer not a logger. dwl
What do u think the visor on your helmet is for, especially when u look up for falling branches?
Jason, you lead a pretty awesome life! Been hooked on your mining/smelting videos for a few weeks now and just found this channel. Love it, keep it up man! 👍
what size skidder is that 440 or 540? almost sounds like a gasser good little machine
You need to sharpen that chain up looks like it don't even cut
Jason you a busy guy from mining, to smelting and now logging. Hope you get time off for the holidays. Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks for watching! Happy holidays!
Where do you sell your lumber?
Very Cool video, brand new subscriber from Ut, I run Lt 50 wide & Lt 40 wide
Wishing I was a bit closer, looking forward to seeing your mill guy & set up 🧡🧡🧡💪👍
Awesome! Welcome and thanks for subbing! More vids on the way!
I just watched a video of yours that is 1 year old. Western red cedar was bringing $1500/mbf at mill. What are they currently paying?
Right now Cedar is about $1100/mbf
Watching this and looking at your possible excape surroundings, maybe the camera doesn't show but I don't see a good excape place if there would be a need to get the hell out of there in a hurry like branch falling, just an observation, I just came on to your video and I'll hang around for awhile, I'm subscribed to several wood related channels.
It's hard to see on the video, but yes I have cut two different escape ways. Thanks for watching!
I saw your video were you got ripped off, I was pissed off the rest of the day!!
Nothing worse than a thief!!
It takes a lot to persevere some times, glad you did, even when your chainsawing wasn't going as planned.
Your a stud, thanks for sharing and getting that cedar to Mark!
Keep up the good work and get a security camera 🙏👌💪💪💪👍🧡🧡
Thanks for all your support. Getting ripped off is the worst!
Nice Ole 440 and saw I love them500is got a couple
Maybe someday I’ll bring you some rock to process!
Gold always get people going especially when you can see it who without a macro lens or a hand lens.
Keep your logs clean for the old man hopefully you understand what he’s telling you.
Even if you want to keep half the log clean.
Blades aren’t cheap you should buy him a 10 pack if he’s going to cut wood for you and then you’ll figure out what a dirty log is!
A dirty log you run the blade 20 minutes it’s so screwed up you can’t sharpen it specially if you take the temper out of it by running to two more minutes.
Love your channels and the honesty and learning together .
Awesome lifestyle!
Thanks for watching!
Better keep an eye out for ancient channels whilst ripping up the forest ground. We find lots of gold in places from years gone by...
Good idea!
Workin' your butt off but at least you're doing things you enjoy. Mining and Timber, not a bad pair.
Thanks for watching!
Your video's are some of the first ones I look for. To me they're very interesting, knowledgeable and you make them easy to understand. Another thing I like is, if you need help or info you're not afraid to ask.
Thank You!
Glad you like them!
Nice work man, loved the methodical work and commentary. You running a 36” bar? Sounds like a 500i….
How do you decide between the mill or Fred's? Sounds like you get more money at Fred's but it's more work?
I think most of my logs will go to Fred's at this point. More money and more fun!
Fix your exhaust on the skidder!
Was wondering where you get your sawmill, want to get my own land , it would be perfect to use to build a cabin and stuff
Its a lot of fun!
Great Video!
Thanks!
Use the tops and butts to sell for firewood
that hemlock has red rot. thats what killed it.
Watched Brents vid. Thanks for helping him with the recording studio. Your property must be off of SR20 in the Birdsview area. I have a place at Lake Tyee so recogized the roads in Brents vid. Cheers! Love this channel!
As on there bunch videos I have not seen.😊
we leave 6 inches trim per log. .
Are bring the broke top in for firewood?
I have about 13 cedar trees on my property (ranging from 16" to 60" dia). Is there anyone you could recommend for logging it? Kirkland area. Thank you!
Cool stuff Jason. Now I know who to pester about my hard to start brand new chainsaw. Thanks for sharing and stay safe that's Gods country up there. :)
Awesome video buddy! New channel! New subscriber!
Thanks for the sub!
Have you gotten into the grading issue so wood can be used for general construction?
I don't grade anything, sell it as home milled wood and the user can do what they like with it
It’s called a twitch hook timber jack pt.# 206877. Now that takes me back to late 60s
I’ve done work checkers , working with long line. I think that is the right name. Been 20 years.
🇹🇷❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍
Hello from Piqua Ohio, keep up the great videos
Thanks! Will do!
Hey Jason I believe you have a disconnect on your muffler on that skidder lol
Great safe work. A man near me was flipped by one of these and died a couple of years ago.
What forest is this?
👍🤙👍🤙 Sticks and stones now? LOL!!!
Thanks for watching!
I had a 440 just like yours, thing was a Mountain goat
That Humboldt didn’t save you anything for footage, it in fact cost you. A conventional cut would’ve been 2’ lower.
A conventional cut causes the top to hit first, and hit harder than the Humboldt. Humboldt often breaks less wood because the tree lands flatter.
Buckin billy ray would say good job
I hope so! Thanks for watching!
Hi Jason, Another great "How to make sawdust" video! Bring them to Fred. He has nothing else to do....right?? You both make money! Stay safe! Jim
Thanks Jim! Stay tuned for more "Fred" videos :)
500i 👍nice saw....is it stock?
Yep stock. Its plenty of saw for me :)
🍻👍
Really like the video! I like how you explain things and show how to do the work! Keep up the great work!
Thanks a bunch!
Nice to see the tree guy return from the mines😁
Nice to see a John Deere view
It sure is!
Nice work! Love it
Best Sound Ever 19:34
Good video, thanks.
👍👍 wow
Thanks!
Yes, make sure you have a clear path chosen to step out of harm's way when the tree cracks to fall , the birds mouth cut decides the direction of the fall and must be cut correctly, always stay away from a tree that snaps to early before the fall cut is made, it's now under mega tons of pressure & if you try to finish the cut, the tree will kick out & roll onto you. Safety all the way 🌝⛑
Great Channel Jason 🏕
Thanks for watching!
really good video
Root rot??
Could be. I have a layer of clay right under the surface too
Wow Chain is not sharp😢
Get er done .
I've been following you since the inception of MBMM but this channel, I just can't enough of. Its kind of like AMSR met the TV show Tool Time ... its amazeballs. I've learned so much and enjoyed every minute of it.
Wow, thank you!
How old were you the first time you used a chainsaw?
Probably around 14 or so
