Thank you! I think the piece from Black Orpheus may also be known as A Day In The Life Of A Fool when it has lyrics. Possibly the lyrics were a later addition, I don’t know - I only know it from the Sinatra version.
Yes, friend! -there’s a later addition of English lyrics!-but I feel that the original lyrics of Manhã de Carnaval are far more beautiful in Portuguese & reflect the premise of the film…🙏🏽💌 (and I equally love Sinatra!) I’d love for our community to become familiar with Black Orpheus as a romantic tragedy, in the setting of Carnaval 🎭 (the original play was by famed Brazilian poet & lyricist Vinícius de Moraes, a very close collaborator of Jobim…his work was derived from the Greek myth, ‘Orpheus & Eurydice’.) It opened the world to Bossa Nova, which was built on the traditional Brazilian rhythms of the ‘favelas’. 🇧🇷 -(the historic settlements of former enslaved peoples of African descent…precious in culture, but a history of humanitarian woes.) Vince Gauraldi’s ‘Impressions of Black Orpheus’ was one of my most beloved albums of all-time from my parents’ vinyl collection🙏🏽❤. I urge a listen of his recordings with Brazilian guitarist, Bola Sete.
Thunderstruck!!! Privilege to view live the Maestro Paquito D'Rivera!!! If this weren't enough!? Diego Urcola!!! Emmett was stretched to his limit. As were Philip Norris, and Kyle Poole. From the blazing opening number to the final note... astounding... #103 among, if not, the most memorable performance showcase from this sensational venue. Thank you to all who made this unparalleled, invaluable performance possible. Best wishes, health, joy and wellbeing...
What a joy to hear these seasoned masters perform the standards in such a way that takes the listener back to the roots of the art form. Joy Joy Joy!!!
