Tom, I'm returning to watching your 60 videos. They're so helpful. I think of myself being intermediate in my skills. Keep up the great work! Thank you.
4:00 In English you can use "Be careful"/"pay attention" when talking to someone or even multiple people, but in Italian there are 2 way to "translate" it: - "State attenti" if you are talking to multiple people ("you" in that case is considered plural, translated becomes "voi"). - "Stai attento" if you are talking to a single person ("you" is singular "tu").
Always great to check out your older vids for rewatching but surely it should be 'State attenti?' as it's plural. Not 'attento'. Also, my Italian teacher says I must say 'Penso che si dica' not 'si dice' and that if I don't use the subjunctive I will be marked down!

Ciao! Thanks! You're correct, it should be "state attenti". I'd say for your teacher and exams, best to use perfect grammar. But outside the classroom, I say follow what you see native speakers do, especially for common expressions :)
hello bro u are real hot on teaching, i'm a boy frm Africa/ Zanzibar - Tanzania u motivate me far 2 much in understanding Italian language because i love this language quite so much. thanks a lot God bless u( Dio ti benedica raggazo)
"Che vuolE dire?" or "Cosa vuolE dire?". If you add "e" at the end of "vuol" it becomes a formal way that we use when you are not in confidence with someone. That's not wrong but it's uncommon with close people. Be careful with the voice tone, it could be misanderstood as agressive phrase. Maybe you just need to add "Scusi (Sorry)". Hope i helped. Thanks for this video Tom. Keep it up :).
I literally just had the conversation about inverting word order a few minutes ago with a couple of Italians, although they were mostly lamenting the complexity of German and Dutch sentence structure (Dutch, incidentally, also says 'what does that mean' as 'what does that want to say') Although I suppose you could insert a comma, "what does it mean, [...]?", throw in some air quotes on the to-be-explained word, and you'd get away with it
Si, si dovrebbe usare il congiuntivo perchè sarebbe: penso CHE si DICA. Tom, i tuoi video sono fantastici! Adoro il tuo accento, in che stato degli USA vivi?
Question: In Spanish, one can say "Pienso que se dice así" (equivalent to "Penso si dice così", or "I think you say it like this"), but it's not as common as "Creo que se dice así" (meaning "I believe you say it like this")...so can one also say in Italian: "Credo si dice così" (or "Credo che si dice così")? Thanks in advance.
Me I took a french word and add like o or a at the end... like casquette(cap) I would have said casquetta in italian... Long ago I did this to all the words but now as I am learning italian, I do not do it(or really rarely)... Some words work tho... like bonjour- bonjourno(buongiorno) which work pretty well. Arriverderci(goodbye, isn't it?)
ahahha nice, but you're not so wrong, cuz casquette could be > casco, in italian, casco is used by someone who drives the scooter , but do not confuse with the word 'caschetto' , it s an haircut ahhaha
yep it's 'wrong' but we do the same from italian to french ahahhhaah so it's wrong but sometimes if you don't know some word and you know the right word in french you can try to do it, the thing is that a french guy , if you talk to him and you say Les Camps Elyséé they pretend to don't understand , instead if you talk with an italian guy, you tell him 'Coliseauoum' we understand that you're talking about the 'Colosseo'.. ahahha when a stranger try to speak in italian, we help him cuz we love our linguage and we understand the difficulties about learning a stranger linguage.. many others don't do it.. I hope I wrote right my meaning :), so Jo Andy, don't worry :) enjoy to learn even if you do mistakes , it's the game of learning
In Spanish everything is more or less the same. Come si dice = Como se dice. Come si dicono = Como se dicen. Che vuol dire = Qué quiere decir. Che significa = Qué significa. State attento = Estad atentos. Stai attento = Estate atento. Non so come si dice = No sé como se dice. Penso (che) si dica così = Pienso que se dice así
This is great, thank you! What's driving me crazy is the phrase che cosa. As far as I can tell it literally means what what? Seems kind of redundant. Have I missed something?
'state attenti' o 'stai attento' :* , the verb 'pensare' needs the next verb in Congiuntivo/Subjunctive, > 'penso che si dica' :) un allarme per il Congiuntivo italiano c'è, nel senso, come faccio a riconoscere il congiuntivo in italiano? perchè solitamente il CHE indica un congiuntivo di seguito, quindi per es. 'voglio CHE tu mi dica, penso CHE tu sappia, immagino CHE tu lo faccia, credo CHE tu lo conosca etc :* I love your videos Tom, you speak very vey well Italian :) I hope that I helped you :)
You can't say "come si dici". We use "come si dice" to ask about how people pronounce a word, generally speaking. Or we say "come dici" with the meaning of "what are you saying?" or "...as you are saying"
Evil Joy so how would I say “dogs are not allowed inside on Sundays” ? (I work in a hotel/restaurant). I have been learning for a few years and this is what I think it is (without help): Ai cani non è permesso essere a dentro di domenica.
Hi Lee :) you can say 'ai cani non è permesso entrare di Domenica' or ' di Domenica ai cani non è permesso entrare ' :) but if you mean , that the dogs can't stay inside on Sunday ' ai cani non è permesso stare all'interno di Domenica' i hope I helped you =P

Be careful about saying "Pay attention". Many English people would think it was rude. It's the kind of thing a teacher says to a class.

Tom, please do some more videos where you are speaking Italian but at a slower pace.
You can slow down the video in the settings if you like :)

Yeah totally!
Salut my man ! Personnellement, quand j'ai une question en anglais je ne pose la question qu'à toi ahah ! Tu es une source sûre bro 👍
Si, si dovrebbe usare il congiuntivo perchè sarebbe: penso CHE si DICA.
Tom, i tuoi video sono fantastici! Adoro il tuo accento, in che stato degli USA vivi?
Dr.Harrison Price new york. Fantastico l'accento new yorkese
Enrico Pandino l'ha detto in qualche video?
L ha detto tempo fa e comunque spesso fa i video a Central Park
I am confused should l start studying about Grammer and basics of Italian language or with common phrases and word please answer ?
Tom, I’m all about trying new things on 2-3 people or more!!!!
Totally, it's the best!

Yes, you can indeed say that! Great job :)
Grazie!
Bravissimo. Ottimo anche il fatto che tu abbia avuto dubbi sul congiuntivo. E non ho nemmeno litigato nei commenti 👍🏻

Evil Joy Yeah that technique is wrong and where I live many do that... But we all know it's not good(at least the grow up)... We do it like a joke😃.
yep it's 'wrong' but we do the same from italian to french ahahhhaah so it's wrong but sometimes if you don't know some word and you know the right word in french you can try to do it, the thing is that a french guy , if you talk to him and you say Les Camps Elyséé they pretend to don't understand , instead if you talk with an italian guy, you tell him 'Coliseauoum' we understand that you're talking about the 'Colosseo'.. ahahha when a stranger try to speak in italian, we help him cuz we love our linguage and we understand the difficulties about learning a stranger linguage.. many others don't do it.. Yeah... I am not worried lol...I like the language and i will master it.
ahahha good boy ;)

"dica" è sugguintivo, no? Perche in spagnolo, "dice" è indicativo... Il suggiuntivo sarebbe "diga" e suona simile a "dica".
nice

@@sowhat5558 Thanks!

Magnifico! Grazie mille per l'aiuto! :)
grazie a te per la risposta e per i tuoi video :) sempre bellissimi ed utili
"What does it mean" can also be translated with "(Che) Cosa si intende". "What do you mean?" --> "(Che) Cosa intendi?"
Yeah totally, I use "cosa intendi" all the time. I think of it also like "what are you trying to say" :)
I know nobody cares but you could remember the word "oublier" in French associating it to "oblivion". That is easier than "forget"
Penso si dica così* is the correct phrase.
And penso si scriva
I almost threw up looking at the moving trees haha damn. Great info tho!
Is this a new video or old ?
?{what should I say [ ragazzo bello] or [ bello ragazzo
Neither. Most commonly it is un bel ragazzo.
Come si dice in l´italiano?
I’ve heard people say ‘come si dici’ not ‘come sì dice’ what’s the difference? thanks!
come si dice ? for Formal ( dire : dice (Lei) ) someone u just met , for informal ( dire : dici (tu ) ) ur friend or bro or Gf . cheers :)
Khaled Attourah thanks
Your welcome bro
You can't say "come si dici". We use "come si dice" to ask about how people pronounce a word, generally speaking. Or we say "come dici" with the meaning of "what are you saying?" or "...as you are saying"
Hey Tom. Thanks for the video. If I said ‘spero che abbiate gradito il vostro soggiorno’ would I be saying ‘I hope you enjoyed your stay’?
yes, exactly, you can also say 'spero abbiate gradito il (vostro) soggiorno', with TU > spero (che) TU abbia gradito il soggiorno
Evil Joy thank you very much for your help!
You're welcome Lee Squires :) I enjoyed, if you need more, I'm here :) greetings from Italy ;)
Si può anche dire “COSA vuol dire?”
Sheila Roman yes, the meaning is the same (I'm Italian)
che voul dire ? ... ( what you want to say) ?
You look a lot younger in lesson four 😂
