    Over 30 years in the industry. I've ran nearly every piece of (similar) equipment shown in this video. Stahl, Baum, Muller Martini. Still love what I do. Thanks for sharing.

      worked in a magazine/catalog factory for 9 years as an inkjet operator. had a couple of these UB binders, hated working on them, i worked mostly on stitchers doing weekly mags

      @@ColtraneTaylor The paper is rarely touched by human hands. Most handling is completed by machine, except for occasional quality checks.

    I only worked 15 years in the trade as a young man. The feeling of making something from paper and ink was very satisfying. The smells of the process seem to still reside in my brain. Thank you.

    I work in such a factory aswell, i work on the machine that folds the paper, and i love it, the job is just so satisfying when you see the paper getting folded, i love to work in this industry and its just fun to watch how books are made, the only downside where i work is that some steps we have to do by hand instead of a machine doing it and some our machines are a bit dated, but we still manage to create amazing books

      The angle of the cutter must be so precise to cut a perfect square. I wonder how they do that. Those machines are not doing straight down cuts.

    This factory uses the glue-up “perfect” binding used for casual paperbacks, workbooks, etc. The coup de gras method is the signature sewn flexible binding, encased in molded covers. This latter method is more exoensive but is the library standard going back to the Renaissance days, and holds uo over time.

    In my career, I briefly handled print production as a Head. Handled Heidelberg Speedmaster & Mitsubishi 5 colour machines along with Creo CTP and post production set up. Though it was a short stint, however extremely satisfying stint indeed.

    This is so fascinating to see... The workers are pretty skilled though. I'm sure if I have to handle stacks of paper like them, I would have toppled some down immediately.
    I'm so curious to know how often the workers got paper cut though? I know they wear gloves, but handling freshly cut paper tend to do that to you.

      Also... the book sleve folding machine is awesome. Alhough from the environmental point of view, the book sleeve is excessive, but it sure is beautiful!

    4:54 Reduce error rates where new factory workers, or workers who are tired or have emotional trauma due to myriad of reasons, e.g. workplace bullying or relationship problems, by installing a hybrid daylight night vision camera with zoom capabilities on the ceiling or via L metal pole, to look down at the book pages to check the pages are stacked with the words facing the correct way around and not upside down. If the pages are stacked incorrectly, e.g. the words are inverted, the light at the aisle lights up and alert worker to remove the entire stack to put aside, but continue inserting new stack from new batch.

    맨밑장 종이까지 깔끔하게 잘려지는데 종이 한장 두께까지 칼날이 제어되는가?
    제어 정밀도가 대단하네요.

      제어라기보단 밑에 재단목이라고 소모품이 있는데 그 재단목 적당히 소모하게끔 세팅하는겁니당

      그런 제어는 안됩니다.
      그냥 위에서 아래까지 자르는 거죠.
      인쇄기의 경우에는 종이를 쌓아 놓으면 한장 한장 빨아 올려서 인쇄기가 물고 올라가다가 조금씩 올리는 방식인데 재단기는 걍 싹둑 자르기만 합니다.
      저기다 사람 몸통 올려놔도 반토막 낼 정도로 힘이 좋죠.

      @@2mb1000 그런 쎈 재단기임에도 불구하고 우리나라는 외국 같이 안전 장치가 없어서 저기에 손가락 잘리는 일도 꽤 있다고 해서 걱정이네요

      @@user-th4uo7iq9r 보통 재단기는 두손으로 한 버튼씩 눌러야 칼날이 내려오게 제작되있는데
      시스템 좀 바꿔서 한 버튼만 눌러도 내려오게 하는 방법도 있다고 하네요
      위험하긴 하죠..

      @@user-th4uo7iq9r 어디서 들으신지는 모르겠지만 요즘은 신형 재단기들은 보통 두손으로 버튼을 눌러야 작동하고 양옆에 센서로 인해 안전거리에 물체가 감지될시 작동을 안합니다

    I worked in a book binding facility. There were some similaities andcsome differences. Our perfect binder was different, we had a 30 pocket gathering line. Not everything in this video fits perfectly, some processes were not related to the actual final product.

      My thoughts exactly, no light barriers or twin cut buttons. So dangerous, would get you an instant prohibition notice from HSE in the UK.

    책 좋아하는 사람이라서 그런걸까요. 왜 이 영상에 감정이 북받칠까요. 책이란 이렇게 탄생하는 군요. 과거에 왜 책이 그렇게도 비쌌는지 알겠습니다. 이 모든 과정을 수동으로 하였으니까요. 책이란 매채는, 현대 사회에 있어 휴대폰이나 노트북 보다 하염없이 싸지만, 그 가치를 알아보는 사람에겐 , 노트북이나 휴대폰에 비해 결코 가치가 뒤지지 않는다고 생각합니다. 그리고 이렇게 싼 가격으로 책이 공급되는 것이 가능한 지금 이 시대가 너무나 감사합니다.

    The cutting machine is not safe, usually you have to press one button with each hand simultaniously to avoid endangering yourself.

    A lot of pretty pictures that only give a very incomplete explanation of what the machines do and why. This would have been so much better with a commentary or text giving technical explanation.

    That Guillotine is dangerous as hell, you should not be able to put your hands anywhere near the blade during its cutting cycle. Has it been modified or safety bypassed? How is this legal in a highly developed country like South Korea? Or is this North Korea?
