It's very interesting seeing a non-Limbus Company perspective on this song, because it's often easy for me to forget how good Mili's song are, even out of context of one of my favorite games. Also P.S. I love this song, I genuinely cried when this song started.
Damn... I did not realise this ran that deep for you. This is probably the perfect song for you, and you gave me a new perspective for how the song feels
I really love your discussion. Many people focus mainly on the particulars of the music itself. The commentary of the lyrics/story of the song usually just relegated to it being interesting/dark/confusing. I really enjoyed you expanding on your personal feelings and interpretations, thank you for sharing them. Would love to see more!
I also think Hero kinda (?) follows the 5 stages of grief, in which at first its still very delusional and carefree (denial), then, the realisation sets in and the facade falls, leading to frustration (anger), before the music picks up again in a very hasty tone, as if trying to beg to not take this delusion away, "i wanna be your fan, just let me be your fan", tells us that this character Mili sings as is pleading not to have their bliss taken away (barganing), before the music briefly takes on another somber and slower tone (depression), before finally becoming fortified, ready to take on the world again, hopeful for the future while leaving the dream behind (acceptance).
I think the songs actually about the Hero's journey. The first part is the call to action, the second part is the adversity the hero faces, and the final part is the climax to the journey. Plus, if you see the art for the song, your the cycle of the hero riding his horse, falling off, getting up and going again.
@@wyvern_wolf2821That's the best part of MILI, they can like mix 2 concept and still make it work It's like... MILI use The Hero's Journey plot concept, but the lyrics they use are like based on 5 Stages of Grief > Denial - We're swaying on horseback > Anger - I fall down the horseback > Bargaining - Here we go another part > Depression - Why is there some where given > Acceptance - Stand up, Gallop on I just quote the starting part of lyrics for each stage, not the exact part Stage of Grief

I'm glad you appreciate them the way they are now, but I will tell you, if you go down that rabbit hole, the songs that are part of the games will hit even harder trust.
Just realized this, but the music's artwork enforces the whole narrative of the song, that's kinda cool. You can see a short haired person running across in the back till they get to the left side and fell down, meaning their "fall"/ lost of their child like naivety. but like the end part of the song, instead of feeling sorry for themselves, they stood up and gallop onward. their hair now longer signifying that they've now grown up, they now know it was fake, but by embodying what's real from their childhood heroes, which is their ideals and 'version of justice'. in a sense, even if it's all fake, they became the hero that's in their childhood dreams. Reinforcing the line "I'm my biggest fan i am my enemy and my friend"
Id be interested to hear how you react to the less whimsical/childlike Mili songs of the Project moon Era like Lament, String Theocracy, Gone Angels etc
Incredibly happy to find another soul seeing Mili's work for what it is & more than the music structure, no one does lyrics & expression like Mili does!! I will always be grateful to ender lilies for introducing me to Mili music, (bulbel) was the song that make me cry, just hearing that beautiful piece of music at the end of a sad journey was the cherry on top for me.
Same for me. I started with having only heard of Library of Ruina, and looked it up once but forgot about it. Way later I happened across Ender Lilies and immediately was taken with it's art style and music. After beating the game I heard Bulbel for the first time and looked it up to discover Mili. Then Mili led me back to Library which I was amazed to come across again, and then LobCo. I'd just decided that if Library had Mili music then I had to play it. And now here we are with Limbus, all thanks to Mili.
You just have to play Limbus Company! It's free, got fantastic story and character writing, and for every major boss fight of a chapter, there's a song by Mili written specifically for them and for each character represented in that chapter thematically! 🔥🔥🔥 "Hero" is the song for Chapter 7 and it fits like a glove to Don Quixote, who the chapter is about!
It's also a great game to just stream, so if you pick it up, I would love to see your reactions to the finales of each chapter, with the build-up and everything the mili songs accompanying them become a hundred times more emotional than they already are!
@@aldeonuwu2634Nah, id say theyre very different. Limbus Companys gameplay is Teambuilder and Turn-Based Strategy, and the lore is... Something else. Id even say that Limbus Company (plus the two games before limbus company) has some of the greatest worldbuilding i have ever seen

My boy is experiencing what PM fans call an "EGO Realization". Become the hero of childlike stories in this cruel reality, becoming the sunshine of all the bleakness... knowing that it's an impossible dream. The effort to reach the dream itself is the dream realized.
Isn't it crazy that you nailed a lot of points for Canto 7 (Chapter 7) just by Mili's song? You absolutely SHOULD play Limbus Company. Mili is a genius and I think you'd love that game-- she makes a song for the ending of each Canto (except Cantos 1 and 2).
While i do think that the song loses a bit of it's punch being removed from its original context of don quixote's boss battle and her "waking up" from her dream, almost destroying everything she gained while living out her deluded fantasies, before finally learning to accept that it is ok to have her own dreams even if theyre impossible and nonsenwical,it still is a masterpiece. Also,a personal recommendation. From what you said you love about mili,i recomend Between two worlds
I understand wholly When i also found milis music it was with imagined flight. And i was The same i wasn't really afforded the same luxury of living childhood. To the point where I had to sell myself for money at an age where I just didn't have the capacity to live out the whimsy of childhood and highschool wasn't the best either. But then i found imagined flight and that for some reason made me cry like an absolute bitch So I feel you on that severely
@@Yahioo1233 I hope through music, healing, and time you’ve found peace. This song is a real gem and I haven’t heard Imagined Flight yet but I’m that’s a gem too
And for the song analysis the song is as you've said, But it's also made for a character on limbus company. Another characteristic of mili songs being their multiple meanings as you might obviously know A gacha game that they're making music for it's not something I particularly like but its way way more forgiving tha any other gacha game so I can excuse it. But yeah the song is about understanding that no matter how ridiculous and absurd your goals or dreams may be they are yours They are what move you forward you are your own hero The idols people put on a pedestal are just what they want to become in the end, so if they don't become their heroes they might think it was silly to even dream in the first place. But that's never been the case since the dream is what pushed them onwards and made the journey towards that goal that seems impossible, enjoyable. Dreams make the journey worth it because it pushes you on the quest for them achieving something else while you Chase that dream.
