    • @KenHeron
      @KenHeron  2 года назад

      Right, and?

    • @audiogek
      @audiogek 2 года назад

      Because channel mode is not the same as frequency. This video was about which frequency is better, not which channel. It just means it automatically chooses 1 of several available channels on the chosen frequency(2.4 or 5.8).
      You can choose a channel on the 2.4gHz band(Frequency) or on the 5.8gHz band(Frequency) or leave it automatic, as you noticed in the video.
      And DJI should really change "Frequency" to "Band" to make it less confusing. I mean in rc we all talk about the 900mHz band, 2.4gHz band or 5.8gHz band ...not frequency.

      i think for most folks the answer would be no. you probably paid less than 500 for that mini2. a mini3pro will be about 1000. And while there are differences they won't matter to most people. The difference in quality is the difference between very very good and very very very good. I'd say enjoy the mini2 and wait to sell it when the mini4 comes out in a couple years.

    Great video to show how high you can fly on flat land. Living in the mountains I wish I had the same results. The tests that you put your drones through are only ONLY good for flat land flying. I launch from my house every morning (6000 ft, side of mtn). I set my RTH at about 395. My elevation meter is totally useless. I can hug the trees being only 50 ft off the ground....my meter reads 425. Adjusting to under 400 I am now only 35 feet off the actual ground....2 ft above the tree tops. To make things even more fun, when flying with a dark background..vlos is useless too. When you fly with a blue sky background it's easy to see..flying against a mountain with trees the drone just vanishes. Even with the Firehouse strobe you showed me I still can't see my drones. Any ideas?

  • @JaredJanhsen
    @JaredJanhsen 2 месяца назад

    I deal a lot with outdoor WiFi installations at work. We only use the 5Ghz band. Even plate glass can attenuate the signal by a good margin. I have a directional AP pointing out of a front window on my house. It links up to a WiFi antenna on the roof of my Pickup so my DVR can upload video. The plate glass knocks off a chunk of RSSI and the range is a fraction of what I know the AP can get with unobstructed LOS.
    2.4Ghz is less impacted by solid objects. Glass and drywall are little more than a speed bump. As a result 2.4Ghz can be very crowded in a dense residential area. When I was living in apartments the 2.4Ghz band was useless to me for anything bandwidth intensive like streaming video or gameplay. Then there's all the other wireless things that use 2.4Ghz that aren't WiFi on top of that.
    I just got a Mini3 a few weeks ago as my first drone. It's a neat little aircraft. I haven't gotten daring enough to take it above 100' AGL yet. I'm glad it uses either band for communication with the RC. 5Ghz is pretty clean outdoors.

  • @zackhpittman
    @zackhpittman 2 года назад

    From the very onset he is wrong about 2.4 being a “longer” signal and 5.8 being a “shorter” signal. In practice yes this is true in a dense area with lots of objects to fly around, but it’s not because it’s weaker, it’s because 5.8 doesn’t bounce or penetrate as easily as 2.4 around things, but 5.8 is a wider bit is available spectrum so in a city environment there is a little less interference than with 5.8 only because it’s a great chunk of available spectrum

    Question...
    Here's the scenerio..
    I live in the redwoods, and they get around 300' tall. There are mountains, also. Let's say I set my return to home at 375' to fly up the river and decide to go up the mountainside to around 1,000'.
    The question...If I hit RTH, will the drone drop straight down to hit the return to home 375' or will it maintain the elevation, come home, and then decend?
    Going up the mountain, I'd stay below the 400' AGL. If it came straight back, I'd definitely violate that limit. If it tried going to the 375' RTH AGL, it would fall into the mountainside. Any thoughts on this?

    I EASA countries you can fly a sub250gr drone in a city and above people (not crowds). There is no difference between hobby or commercial flights and in most countries you don't need a pilot certification for sub250gr drones.
    A flight like you did is legal as long you or an observer maintain VLOS and the drone isn't inside a NFZ or a TFR.
    Drones are allowed to fly up to 15m/45feet above an obstacle, natural or man made, as long as they stay within 50m/150feet of that obstacle.

    I would love to purchase a DJI Mini 3, but I refuse to deal with the mandatory geofencing they push on you. They should have an option that allows you to opt out (via the app or even a document you have to sign and send in) of this function and take full responsibility for any violations that may come your way if you break the rules.
