Been interested in "stick" martial art for a long time. I'm a very novice n found your 12 strikes of Arnis VERY interesting. Your instructions are easy to follow n I like your explanation of WHY it's done that way. Subscribing because of this video. Know of MAYBE only 1 place that teaches kali on Kauai, Hawaii. Fantastic video ! Looking forward to your next video. Thank you.
Please notice that Modern Arnis is teached with small differencies all over the world, Modern Arnis in the DAV ist not thhe same like in the MAMD in germany or the same like in US or the Phillippines. So what is teached in one land /Organisation can be a fail in another Land. Modern Arnis is not like Modern Arnis in another land. And teachers show some moves not the same way like others.
I study Bahala Na Giron Style and those are pretty close to what we do except we have a 4 light and an 8 light plus our 10th strike is with the dagga. It's different ways for different style types. These basic strike are a road map to real strikes which is different when done fast and real so don't think he's telegraphing his attack.
One and 2 are supposed to be to the clavicle, not the head.. The idea is breaking the bone so that the opponent a cannot use their arm against you. It's the same with attacking the hand because it is like the fangs on a snake, it's what is used against you and it's the closest to you if the person throws a punch. 3 and 4 are to the body specifically where the lowest rib is or a person's elbow. The number 5 is to the solar plexus exactly. 6 and 7 are not "to the chest, it's to a pocket of nerves that is located between the chest and shoulder. Striking this area disables the persons arm. 8 and 9 are specifically to the knee cap or the ankle bone. The idea is to disable the opponent with specific attacks that break bones. The twelve to the top of the head is in fact right in the middle on the seam of the skull, which is a death strike as the skull will open up like a zipper. I studied for two years in a serious school. The style represented here is not quite exact enough. On the defensive moves your supposed to use the other hand to brace your stick. If you don't use the other hand it's not going to work, a full swing will knock your stick back into you unless it's braced.
+John Cunningham I studied in a serious school where being exact matters. Hitting someone in the shoulder is not the same as breaking someone's clavicle. Training 20+ hours a week will help one to be very artistic with one's blows but it helps greatly to start off correctly. Fights are very 'fluid' and obviously hitting the intended target is difficult but one needs to know what is the target and why. If i hit a 300 pound man in the shoulder that will annoy him, but if i hit his exposed clavicle that will partially disable him. That could save my life.
I see a lot of people bagging this video. It's for instruction purpose guys so get your heads out of your arse's and give this guy a break. This is Remy Presas style Modern Arnis teaching "THE 12 BASIC STRIKES". To the guy that says "Those 12 basic strikes are not launched at any part of the body, blah blah". If you can't strike one of those 12 vital points then you would try to strike somewhere else close to that point where you have been trained to strike would you not? This Video is Basics.
arnis is a modern day kali, it is came from our pilipino ancestor. before the spanish came to our country the kali or (arnis) is use ocassionally for self defense, how ever when the spaniards came, the art was been forbieen! because of revoulutionary threat of spaniards.
Foreigners are going to the Philippines to train Arnis for a few months, then going back to their country to introduce themselves as a MASTER. Then creating their own school of Arnis. Note: Arnis is a Blade Art not a Stick Fighting Lolz!!!!!!
The Americans made a instructional video about Arnis...

The General term for this art is Arnis. Kali is from mindanao and Escrima from visayas. Escrima is Different in Esgrima a Spanish sword art
