Straight and to the point thank God he didn't feel the need to tell us about his day and just a bunch of things that have nothing to do with what we are trying to fix. Thank you thank you thank you
I bought this machine used and at a good discount due to this spring being bent horribly and the whole mechanism installed improperly. I could have bought a new one probably. But after watching this video, I was able to reremove it. Bend the spring back close enough to it's proper position. And reinstall it all correctly . Now it works like it should!!!!!! Thanks a million for the video!!!
hahaha..... I did the same thing! I was thinking; what the heck did I do wrong? The answer is simple enough if someone can point in the right direction.
Hard part is finding just a new spring. I lucked out and have an old school repair shop near me that knows small engines like the back of his hand. He went into the back and dug out a used one for me for $20. Explained how to and how important setting the governor was. I was grateful because it was the night of the first big storm of the year. I don’t have a garage and had my snowblower in my damn kitchen. Took an hour and two pulls and a couple adjustments and it ran perfect, even a little better than before.
Thank you, this is exactly what I needed... two of your videos help me put my Ariens snowblower back together. Your short and concise videos are just what I need. Great job!
It turned out that the spring was distorted when I took out linkage, which I should not do it when I cleaned my carb. I followed your video and make sure the shape is the same like yours. It worked like a charm. I sent you the video in the morning and you shot your video, edited and uploaded to youtube before the end of the same day! Dony, you are the man!!!!!
Your two videos saved me. I marked the linkage but had trouble with the throttle body spring not working. I checked my work using your video and was able to bend the spring to give it more tension. Thank you and thumbs up big time. Thanks again. Awesome video!!!!!!!
Great video, just what I needed to know after replacing carb and throttle control wasn't working right. Made it easy for me to fix the problem, thank you.
Thanks for the video. I have the exact same problem. After viewing you video I was able to fix the problem. Great instructions and I thank you very much.
Wanted to say thanks, this was exactly what I was needing. First search and boom, pretty much identical throttle mechanism on mine so it was perfect! :)
donyboy your the man. just what I needed except I have one problem. Stop this video at 1:52. My wire is green going to perhaps the coil? I also have a black ignition wire going from the carb cover ignition key to the throttle kill switch the black wire going to the ignition key came off the throttle and I failed to study where it goes. Can you help?..There are no video's on this and I don't have electric start. Hope my description is accurate. TY in advance.
have snow thrower with this problem. Looks like my spring is stretched out. bought brand new assembly on ebay for $20. Thanks, saved me a frustrating afternoon.
Excellent video could not understand why it was not pushing the rod as I was pulling the throttle. I have changed the carb but thought I had changed something. Throttle assembly close to 80 cad here will look tomorrow to see if spring broken or unclipped.
It helped my friend he has a craftsman snow blower with that problem I sent him the video he took a flashlight and called me to say it had come off at the bottom saving him a trip to the repair shop. Is the other holes on those spots will it make the engine go faster or slower? Thanks
Hi Don, my throttle lever doesn't stay at upper position n goes down all the time, is it this part for sure ?? (this spring is not broken n is at the right positions) Tnx for answering
Dony, Fantastic videos. My buddy had same problem but spring wasn't broken. hmmm. Thanks to studying your video we were able to solve it. Turns out the piece of metal on the throttle lever shaft control where the spring z bend is attached was rusted solid to the shaft so when you throttle up, the set screw attached to the lever didn't push that center metal piece. So, three pieces on that shaft ... throttle lever, middle piece and outer piece which attaches to gov linkage. Middle piece would not move and that was the cause of our problem. Clean it up, break it free from the rust and lube it and all set.
Great video.well explain I have a tecumseh 5.0 generator 2500 I believe I have the same problem ,cause the only way it turns on is if I spay started fluid in the airfilter ,with the swithch on choke mode ,then it dyes.i try to put it on the run position fast to keep it from dying nothing happens .??...are generator n lawn motors work the same? I'm not no expert
I don’t know if you could answer this question, I removed screws from intake manifold to the engine to change the carburetor, but now the screws won’t go back in , as if there to big.????
Thanks! I was able to take mine apart, but the spring was fastened just fine as far as I could tell. It was not broken. Is it possible that it just lost it's elasticity? I can use my machine, but cannot adjust the throttle, but hey it works. Do you have the part number and a place to purchase the spring or throttle assembly? Thanks again.
My spring pushes the throttle open as it should however when you bring the throttle down should it be pulling it closed somehow? Mine is not pulling closed and the throttle down. Thanks
Thanks so much for this video. I just had took it all apart to fix the fuel line and i don't know what had happened but it seems like the tension came off that spring and i wasn't sure where it went to. I think it may have just came on woen some how. Thanks again.
Great video. My throttle is doing the same thing, but the spring is not broken. It looks like the throttle lever hub is not longer connected to the hub where the spring bottom attaches. I am stuck in high throttle as I have no mechanism to bring it back down. I suspect I need a new throttle control assembly, unless you have a fix to suggest.
Hi I bought the whole part as you suggested because I couldn't get just the spring, but as I'm looking at both the new mechanism and the old mechanism and I noticed that my old lever is set up to settle in certain positions, up all the way and the other position is down towards the bottom. My new lever looks exactly the same but when I pull the lever up, it seems like it just flops back in the off position ? When I look at my old lever, I can see that it has indentions on it so that seats in those positions but my new one does not have these indentations. Is this right and will it still work ? Thank you
excellent video, very informative...i have a 9hp tecumseh and could of used this video after i rebuilt the carb and removed the linkage...nice job dony how about that screw on the throtle lever does it have to be turned in or out to increase rpm on the governor.....? thanks dony great video
Do you know when gas leaks out of the carb while running if you need a new float seal or just replace the whole carb? Mine is an Airens 824. Thanks If so can you suggest a good source and the right carburator part etc.
HI Great Video!!! Thank you. Have you ever come across a Tecumseh engine that won't shut off? I have a MTD pro 26inch snow blower, I recently cleaned out the carb and got it running again, but it won't shut off, and i have to pull the spark plug cable off to shut it down. Any ideas?
You are terrific! I am a woman and you have really simplified my life with your DIY small engine repair videos. Can you tell me where I can order the snowblower throttle spring? Thank you!
Thanks for the info but it runs good it’s just when it’s running and you have it throttled up it seems to idle down I don’t no if it’s just vibration or what
Hello, Thanks for all your info. Here's my problem. All the mechanisms seem okay but the unit stall under a heavy load. and then gets worse each time I restart and adjust. I've tried turning up the idle I think I have it maxed still same thing ...any thoughts. Thank you. W.
Thanks again love your videos great reference took it apart but couldn’t figure out how to get back together again pay wasn’t sure the first guy had together right
I have a good Ariel’s snowblower but I’m 60 now and my handstrength isn’t what it used to be. Is ther a way to make it easier to squeeze the throttle and the auger. It is so heavy it is challenging to take it to someone. I’m pretty handy.
Just curious, I'm having the opposite problem. The blower throttles up fine but when I throttle it down to shut it off, I get no response. Am I correct in assuming the spring would be the issue here as well?
my 8hp tecumsey was "hunting" so i put a whole new spring throttle mechanism on it. it run for a minute now it wont start at all - has a new carburator also on my snow blower
Hello, thanks for the video, I disasemble mine because the engine run too fast, I tought the spring bend too much... but I think it's because of the caburator ajustement that give too much gaz.
I'm having the same problem with the throttle control, except my spring is not broken. Is it possible that it lost it's tension? Thanks for all your videos.
Very very helpful video! Thanks so much! My throttle works going up (bracket moves Governor arm) but when throttling down nothing happens, the bracket to governor does not even move. Any idea what’s happening here? Maybe need new spring? Somebody told me that the governor actually pushed the throttle closed by itself and that when the snowblower is turned off (which obviously it is while I am inspecting the throttle) and that is why I don’t notice the governor arm moving when I throttle down. The reason I ask is that the machine runs a little rough and it seems that when throttling down it has the most trouble. Haven’t stripped carb apart at all, just thinking it could be an issue with that spring. Thank you so much! Your videos have been really helpful throughout the years!
I have a issue with the same engine it will throttle up but not throttle down the spring is not broke. The governor doesn't seem to return to the idel position. Also the last time I used the snowblower the governor didn't seem to be working it wouldn't kick in when under load. What do u think? Thanks keep up the videos. U r the most informative channel on small engine I have found.
only thing i can do to make it work for now is keep the side panel off the blower and manually return the arm to idle. im still looking into a solution, possibly trying a 2nd spring but finding one to work is harder then i thought.
Hey dude. I just replaced the throttle harness, spring includes. And I got zero movement. Can I email you somehow to show you? I can't figure this out.
Your videos are superb - thanks for doing them. I have just fixed a fuel leak because the float chamber O-ring was distorted. But the engine hunts at all speed settings. It is a newer carb with no mixture control. Is it a problem with the throttle lever??
Hey don I’m replacing the throttle spring but i played with that screw on the throttle assembly so much im not sure where it should be how many turns is factory set? Thanks for all the help!
Hi - To replace the throttle spring I need to remove the shroud that covers that covers the throttle, carburetor and choke area. I’m having trouble getting the choke knob off so I can remove the shroud. It looks like it is pressed on to the choke lever. Any suggestions on way to get the choke knob off? Thanks.
My spring was also booked up properly but wouldn’t idle up or down. Unhook the spring from the top of the throttle body and bend it towards the rear of the snowblower (where you stand). That will give the spring some extra tension and mine works fine now. Easy fix. Hope this helps.
My ariens snowblower won't turn off when i take the throttle lever all the way down. I have to turn the ignition off to stop. Could it be this spring that is the fault??? Please answer donyboy!
I was watching your video and my spring is not broken in the part works as it should when it is off the snowblower as soon as I put it on, it does not work correctly
Great video just what I was looking for. Not sure if my throttle spring is broken or not. I assume the linkage provides tension to the spring? I do not have the throttle linkage on yet I had to order new one.
My throttle spring seems to have tension. But my question is this, when I push my lever up, it does push the rods connected to the carb and governor forward forcing the throttle open, which is now under tension. IF I push back against the governor, while the lever is up, there is tension there and the throttle closes, and reopens if I release the governor. But if I push the lever down, nothing happens, the throttle remains open. Should the lever being in the down position pull the throttle closed? Or is that the job of the governor when the engine is running?
Hi, great video, I have a problem that I think I have my spring wrong and I do not know what number it has or what it is actually called I am from the Czech Republic so it is more complicated.. Thank you very much in advance 😁
I have tecumseh 9hp on a snowblower aftyer changing carb to new one engine runs rapid have tried setting govener per your instructions also double check all settings to no avail what do i do Thanks

this video made my snowblower running like new...YOU ARE THE BEST !!!
thank you for the assistance! worked a treat. back to blowing snow again with full throttle.
I put it back together upside down; you just saved me trip to the repair shop, THANX!
hahaha..... I did the same thing! I was thinking; what the heck did I do wrong? The answer is simple enough if someone can point in the right direction.

Not the first time your videos helped. Able to fix my blower with this video. Thanks very much.
you're welcome mike
Great video, just what I needed to know after replacing carb and throttle control wasn't working right. Made it easy for me to fix the problem, thank you.
Thank you so much. I am just finding this on my neighbors blower.
Hey. Getting my old John Deere snowblower ready for the year and have found your videos a great help. Thanks!
This old video just saved me hours of frustration on an old snow boss that I inherited. Thank you.
@ncrdisabled the little screw on the mechanis is what makes it go faster or slower. turn it in to make faster and out to go slower
What does the screw actually do. Did not check it. Was too busy checking carb adjustment for what I did wrong lol
Thanks so much it was hard to figure out until i saw your video.
Your videos are so good.... this was my exact problem.
Thanks for the video. I have the exact same problem. After viewing you video I was able to fix the problem. Great instructions and I thank you very much.
Your videos are excellent I replaced my tecumseh carburetor on my toro 20 year old snowblower and now I will replace the spring on the throttle thanks

They also can wear out over time so the throttle isn't as responsive. Easy repair. Good video.

I have the same issue. Lever up, throttle open. Spring is ok. Lever down, throttle stays open.
Did you guys ever figure this problem out? Currently have the same situation going on with my tecumseh 10hp
bump this, im having the same exact issue right now. almost like it needs a 2nd spring on the right of the lever as a return spring.
Having same issue
only thing i can do to make it work for now is keep the side panel off the blower and manually return the arm to idle. im still looking into a solution, possibly trying a 2nd spring but finding one to work is harder then i thought.
A common problem on Tecumseh blowers. Great video.
Thanks man, you help people a lot with the videos

you just want a bit of resistance on the spring
Hi - To replace the throttle spring I need to remove the shroud that covers that covers the throttle, carburetor and choke area. I’m having trouble getting the choke knob off so I can remove the shroud. It looks like it is pressed on to the choke lever. Any suggestions on way to get the choke knob off? Thanks.
i had a diffident problem but your video help me with mine tks u
I’m using the same motor for a go kart project. How would you put a throttle cable to that system
Hi Don, I have this problem and I need the spring or the throttle unit. What are the part numbers for this and where can I order it? Thx
My spring was also booked up properly but wouldn’t idle up or down. Unhook the spring from the top of the throttle body and bend it towards the rear of the snowblower (where you stand). That will give the spring some extra tension and mine works fine now. Easy fix. Hope this helps.
I replaced my carb and it races to high RPM as soon as you leave idle. I stop it immediately. Would the spring cause that?
yes it did but is it the 7 hp snapper 2 im wondering about the linkage
My ariens snowblower won't turn off when i take the throttle lever all the way down. I have to turn the ignition off to stop. Could it be this spring that is the fault??? Please answer donyboy!
I was watching your video and my spring is not broken in the part works as it should when it is off the snowblower as soon as I put it on, it does not work correctly
You are the man !!! I frick’n love ya. Best on the Tube! Thank you 🙏 for all your videos. Please don’t ever quit.
Great video just what I was looking for. Not sure if my throttle spring is broken or not. I assume the linkage provides tension to the spring? I do not have the throttle linkage on yet I had to order new one.
Definitely helpful in 2024!
@PGXI YEA IF U TURN IT IN U GET MORE RPM, IF U TURN IT OUT U GET LESS RPM
you're welcome
Where would I find one ?
Where does tecumseh 32698 governor link fit. I do not know where it goes and you did not mention it in your video.
I was not able to remove the throttle lever on my craftsman 536.886440 snow blower any suggestions
thanks exactly what i was looking for ....first video :)
Do you have a part number for the entire assembly please ... or where I might find it?
Right on thanks exactly what I wanted to confirm.
Hi, do you know where I can buy this spring online or is there away to modify it? Thank you.
great video, just what I needed. Many thanks
what gives that particular throttle the tension that holds its position?
Thank you, this vidéo was very helpful
Awesome video! Could clearly tell my spring was over bent!
Where can I by a new spring, regards Thomas, Sweden
Hi, great video, I have a problem that I think I have my spring wrong and I do not know what number it has or what it is actually called I am from the Czech Republic so it is more complicated.. Thank you very much in advance 😁
Can this spring be replaced with this thing attached or must we remove it, then replace the spring?
3:32
you would have to look through all my tecumseh videos
I have tecumseh 9hp on a snowblower aftyer changing carb to new one engine runs rapid have tried setting govener per your instructions also double check all settings to no avail what do i do Thanks
I just watched the video, helped immensely, thank you!
