Hello, I am a 76-year-old lady who recently installed a new electric starter on my 8.5 HP Tecumseh Snow King snowblower....I ordered a new starter because my "s...mall engine mechanic" kept replacing the starter with what he had "kicking around"...which didn't solve my problem. My Snow King was purchased in 2004 and has always been stored inside and maintained with regular oil changes and high test gas (and Seafoam additive). Last winter (2021-2022) after having multiple starter replacements, I switched "small engine mechanics" and the new guy told me that I needed to have my carburetor "cleaned" ...he used a carburetor kit and charged me $124.00 for the service....it did not work, and I had to call someone in to clear my driveway. I have been watching your channel...and have ordered and installed a new starter with your help....the starter works great...but still...no start..and gas is leaking out of the carb...so I ordered a new (non-adjustable) carburetor....and I am going to attempt to install it myself :) There is fresh gas in the tank...(Nov 1, 2022)...I am wondering about whether I need to replace the primer and fuel line...and how I would do that with gas in the tank....thank you :)
I am not a mechanical person. But I managed to order the correct carburetor, remove the old and install the new in under 2 hours. I'm very pleased with the results. And I couldn't have done it without your video assistance. Your step-by-step tutorials have saved me countless hours and dollars. Plus the confidence boost is immeasurable. Thanks! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Just ordered a Toro 826LE carb today (carb, gasket, filter, fuel line, primer bulb) on ebay for $15. You were right, much cheaper than the $150 shop charge + pickup fee. Once I replace it, I'll clean the old one and keep as a spare. Update: new carb went in today, took about 20 min, minor idle adjust. WORKS PERFECTLY. THANK YOU....
I tried to get parts to rebuild a carb one time and a complete new carb was only about 10 dollars more. Going with the complete carb makes way more sense. Nice repair and thanks for sharing Dony!!!
I was able to resurrect my old craftsman snowblower '89! Thank you for such detailed videos. You made every step so easy. You take your time to cover every possible challenge that may arise. Great job!! I feel so proud of myself and I saved a ton of money! Cheers
I was thinking of cleaning and rebuilding my old adjustable carburator but it's cheaper to replace with a new one from Amazon, considering the cleaner, the kit and tools. The thing is I do'nt know what the part number of my old carburator is. My snowblower is a Craftsman 10 hp -30 HMSK100 159212T (D) 3239A with a Tecumseh engine. The numbers on the carburator do'nt match any listed. Can you help me with finding the right carburator? Thank you. Excellent videos BTW.
I actually brought one back to life with a carb half gone inside from the water and methanol only half the threads for the main jet . Ran good for that 15 mins haven’t started it in 5 years but it’s inside not like before set outside I don’t know how long the transmission slide shaft was frozen too . I also have a carb ready to put on it now . Craftsman 28” 8hp .
Today I installed this exact carburetor on my Husqvarna snowblower. The job was pretty straight forward and everything went well. What sort of surprised me was the adjustment which was required to the governor. I've never moved it but once running with the new carburetor, the engine rpm's were much too high. After a couple of tries, in no time the engine was running like new and I was surprised at the dramatic improvement in performance, which brings me to a point 'd like to share. What most of us don't realize is the performance and reliability of our machines degrades gradually over time. Improper maintenance, particularly in the "long term storage" category, allows corrosion to build up over time gradually restricting or outright blocking the small passages in the fuel system. Today's gasoline is not like that of yesteryear. Today's fuel contains all sorts of additives which oxidize mush faster creating all sorts of work for Dony! ALL small engines which will sit unused for months on end should be drained of their fuel completely and the engines run until they stall from a lack of fuel. Like many, I use a fuel stabilizer hoping it works as described. A little knowledge, planning and execution will save a boatload of future issues. Okay, I'm off my soapbox! Thanks Dony!!
Just ordered a carburetor to fix my snow blower. I am not handy at all, but try videos that can take me step by step through smaller projects. Just want you to know how much I appreciate your detailed and well thought out "how-to"... it is giving me the confidence to give it a shot. You sharing your expertise is greatly appreciated.
I am just starting out, watching a bunch of these videos and doing simple equipment repairs for friends and neighbors. A work friend has a 2014 Bolens (MTD) snow thrower that had a clogged carb - I think it had some of the gas from the very first time he filled the tank still in it, as he hadn't used it much (I worked on it just this Fall, 2018) and never ran it out or stabilized it. I could not believe how much of the machine I had to dismantle just to access the carb! There was a bolt, one of four that held a back cover on, that was blocked by the belt cover. I had to take the snow chute off to get the belt cover off to unscrew this one bolt, to get to where the carburetor was. And then remove a bunch of stuff around the carb! It was a nightmare but I got it done . . . and did not have any leftover pieces or screws. yay.
Thanks for another amazing video! Going to replace the entire carb on my snowblower. The bowl screw was cross thread. Seems like replacing the entire carb is the best option.
Great timing on this video, I just replaced the carburetor with an aftermarket on my tecumseh 7hp a few days ago lol. Very easy job. Didn't start right away, it took a bit of playing with the idle screw to get it to fire up, then I just adjusted the high speed adjustment screw and it's running better than ever! I tried to clean the old one, but when I screwed the bowl back in the brass bolt snapped off inside. Whoops. It was probably 20 years old. Slightly different design on the 7hp though. Mine had the plastic choke lever on the top, but its essentially the same steps as shown here.
....I hope my installation and my snow blower starting afterward goes as well as Yours, Dony. Its December 17th '20...and We have 3" of fresh snow out there and no neighborhood kids looking to make some money shoveling/clearing our driveway. I weep for future generations and this one. Keep up the good work. Thank you for the video.
Great video, it shows every step clearly and is easy to follow. You even adjust camera angles to show what you're doing which helps so much. Thanks for posting the numbers of the replacements too, that's always another concern when ordering new parts.
@@donyboy73 thanks..great video...i need help. what is that two link connector called?. where is that long link connector goes?...which hole?..do u have video showing how to fix red lever part?...
Thank you! This was just what I needed to watch so I could replace the carburetor on the snowblower. I had a general idea about how to do it but it was really nice to see you doing it and then I knew I could get it done.
Very cool! I also find it easier to just replace the carb instead of cleaning it, especially if it's neglected like you have shown in the video! Thanks for the upload keep it up!
This video was very. helpful. It matched up with/walked me through everything I needed to do with my carburetor replacement. I especially liked the comments at the end about adjusting the rpm's... I needed to adjust mine down and appreciated the explanation.
Thank you so so much for posting the part numbers in the descrp. I've been looking everywhere for this carb for my 1979 Aveins RM828 and couldn't find any engine parts anywhere. But that's the exact same carb that it takes. Got the part number from the site you linked and found it for 12$ on amazon. Thanks so much.
Great video! I Replaced the carb on my machine but it won't run unless the choke is on about 60% if I put the choke to less or none the engine will stall out. Does anyone have any advice? ? Thanks!
Good video. I am using the same new carburetor as you are. My kit came with some brushes with a bit of a bit on the end which I believe is to increase the fixed fuel jet size. My snowblower is hunting a little so I wanted to just barely increase the port size to allow for more fuel. As this video does not touch on this, do you have a video that does? Thanks
One tip - the 632334A carburetor kit I got on Amazon had a fuel line. I pulled the old one out and it was difficult to thread the new one through the block. I used an 18" zip tie that I stuck the lock end into the new fuel line and threaded it through the fuel line opening. Later I thought that the easiest way to get the new line in would be to use a dowel (or pencil) to connect the new line to the unconnected old line then pull the old line out. The new one will follow it and be exactly where it should go. The 632334A had 3 adjustments and worked much better than my old non adjustable one. You can even see that the cover has 2 holes in it to adjust the idle stop screw and the low speed idle screw. You can see the holes at 9:23 on in the video. When you look in the holes you see the 2 adjuster screws. So the fixed idle carb was probably a simpler design that saved some money, but the snowblower cover was designed for the adjustable carburetor.
I bought one of the adjustable carbs from Amazon for my 8hp Tecumseh. Installed its leaking gas from the front of the carb at a steady rate. Just wondered if you ever had any similar problems. Not sure if I should send it back or try and repair it?
Your insights, and very clear instructions were spot-on! I was able to order the new carburetor from the link on your website - great service from them…. Thanks!
Thank you Donyboy this made it possible to do myself. I just bought a new carb insted of trying to clean/rebuild old one since it is the sure-fire way to get it running like new! ;)
Hi.. Looking to replace a carb on a Toro 521 snow thrower.. Does Oregon make this carb replacement..? Looking to upgrade from the Ebay/Amazon replacements.. Thanks
Great video as always. Winter is coming. It remains to recall what to lubricate on the snow blower before winter use and what lubricants to use. It would be great to consider preparing a snow blower for the winter season of operation. Thanks so much for your videos. With best regards from St. Petersburg Russia.
Thank you! Your videos have been a big help. I just have a question. I am replacing the carb on a Yardmachines snowblower with a Tecumseh engine. It is an old snowblower from 1995. I am having difficulty with the throttle though. For the throttle lever, there is only a spring that connects to the mechanism that connects to the carb. With the spring alone, it doesn't move the lever open or closed. Is there supposed to be another linkage in addition to the spring? I can see in your video that there is a rigid wire connected to the throttle lever. Im trying to determine if I am missing a piece or not. Sorry for the long-winded question. This is my first time working on this snow blower, so I hope my question makes sense. Any help is appreciated!
Good Video and great teacher! Do you have a preference on using an adjustable vs nonadjustable carburetor? Also Amazon has many inexpensive replacements for the Tecumseh carburetor. Do you find these reliable?
Thank you for the perfect step by step. Installed and runs nice and smooth. Only issue I have is that if I go to low into idle, it just shuts off. Not sure what could cause this as I tried to adjust the idle screw but doesn't seem to solve the issue. Not a big deal, very happy, thanks Don 👍🏻🇨🇦
I have the same engine on mine, but it's shooting out blue flames when it's running and the idle is surging - installed a amazon carb to get it to start, but now have the blue flames. It's also hard to start. Exhaust valve spins with my finger whenever it's at top dead center when I took the head off, intake valve is nice and tight - do you think the exhaust valve is too loose and letting exhaust gases out of exhaust? I need to check valve clearances still.
Hey, what size screw did you use for the one that vibrated out. I have the same one lost and need a replacement and couldn't find it listed as to the size
As you said at the end. I try to clean the old one first and have also changed them out. I have wondered on the ones I replace----has it ran poorly right from the factory?
Thanks for a great video Don. I did this job today on an old MasterCraft snowblower with an 8HP Tecumseh. The only issue I had was with those bolts for the bracket at about 9:10 in the video. I got the aftermarket carburetor you mentioned in the video, and was surprised to find that there were no threads in the holes for those bolts. Should anyone else have this problem, I used a 9/64" drill bit and an 8-32 tap to cut my own threads and the bracket went on no problem. Thanks again Don. Your videos are always so detailed and so easy to follow, someone like myself with zero mechanical ability can do it.
@@keithanderson6711 - I used the adjustable model that Don used here (sorry, don't remember the part number), and I bought it from Amazon...probably a small engine dealer who sold on Amazon. I did make 1 mistake here and I wanted to share in case others do. After I changed the carb, it seemed like the engine wasn't revving up as high as it did before. Sure enough, the governor linkage was in the wrong hole. If you use the adjustable model, at 5:53 of the video, Don has a great shot of where the linkage should go.
Yeah. Same here. No threads on the bracket holder. No big deal. Did what you did and worked just fine. $16.00 for the carb. Interesting that the carb from a 1974 Tecumseh engine is almost 100% similar to a 2005 carb. I guess the original design was just fine. You know the old saying...if it ain't broke don't fix it". That goes for the carb design also.
I replaced 2 carburetors for different snowblowers. I decided to open up the new carburetor bowls and found that NO primer welch plug was installed. Is that ok?
Does this snowblower carry an air filter on the carburetor? My tech support told me it carries one, an OEM TECUMSEH 28424 AIR FILTER. Please confirm if it does and where to install it. My snow blower is a Ryobi with the TECUMSEH 10 HP engine, model # HMSK105 Spec: 1599088. Thanks
Great video Don! Even though this is a new video, I felt like I was watching a Classic "DonyBoy73" one. As always, superb close-ups, especially for those hard to reach/see bolts and nuts. That is what separates your how-to videos from the rest! Again, awesome job! - James
Always enjoy and appreciate your well done vids over the years. I would like to see more snowblower repair vids with the newer China made Honda Clone engines like those made by LCT, Powermore or Zhongshen. As these engines are much more common in recent years. All the best.
Well done Don, any suggestions for a Zama carb on a Echo blower? Already replaced with a new adjustable carb cannot find right combo of hi/ lo adjustment to run right. Thanks, Mark
@@donyboy73 thanks for responding Don, tried 1.5 turns on low/hi mix screws, No start/run until 5.5 t on lo mixture screw, still no transition to high rpm. Compression is good, plug is new, spark looks normal, believe problem is in carb, fuel lines and filter are new from i-net source. Frustrated. Mark
Very detailed video explaining exactly how to do a carb swap. I recently changed the carb and throttle linkage spring on my snowblower but it's still giving me issues. At low throttle setting, when it gets a little bit of load it wants to stall. If I give it just a slight bit more throttle, it over-revs and I have to kill it. Any ideas? I was thinking maybe something to do with the governor?
Do you have a video about the throttle lever? I replaced my carburetor and the lever doesn't seem to move the linkage. It is like it lost it springyness?
Change the carburetors on my 8 hp and 11 hp snowblower. These blowers ialways threw snow fire out but now the shoot either clogs or may only throwing a foot or so in first gear at times I need to stop for it to catch up
Thanks for making these great videos. I just changed out my carb today. Previous owner did something weird with the ground wire. Blower will run without safety key, and I don’t think it’s connected anywhere to the body. Also, will this effect the headlight?
I have the exact same snow-blower.... yeah.... I'm not cleaning next time ;) This video is now in my Craftsman folder (videos make such great user-manuals) ;)
As I just commented on your Belt replacement video, i watched this yesterday and easily replaced my carb. My older snow blower makes a new sound. Constant rev instead of up and down! Thanks. I have now subscribed. Curious as to your location and accent. I suspect Ontario, and possibly some French background? As my brother would say mwa si mwa si
Don, I replaced my carb on my Tecumseh 5 hp Snapper Snow Blower with a new non-adjustable one. It ran fine for about 8 minutes, then would no longer run. I can start the engine and keep it going by continuously pumping the primer. But when I stop pumping, the engine stops. I removed the fuel line to make sure fuel is getting to the carb, and it is. Any ideas?
What's best, adjustable or non-adjustable? My snowblower came with the non-adjustable kind but now that I need to (possibly) replace it, which type of carb would you recommend? Thanks!
@@donyboy73 I finally spent a few hours cleaning the old carburetor, following the instructions in your videos. I'm not very adept at fixing engines or anything mechanical but after putting everything back together, the snowblower started at first pull! I couldn't believe it! Now I need to figure out how to adjust idling, which is not bad now but I don't know if perhaps it can be made better. Thanks a lot!
I have a toro ccr 2450 snowblower that won’t start. I added new gas, fuel filter, plug & switch.I checked the plug & ignition with spark plug tester & I have spark. Bought an after market carb & installed. Still won’t start. Help!
Thank you professor, I just purchased a non-adjustable carb & fuel line. There was no where to enter the discount code on the order form. Thought I'd give you a heads up on that. I hope it goes easy fore me the same as it did for you. Cheers !!***.
Thanks DonyBoy, another clear and helpful how-to vid. Question: after I get the new carb in, i feel like it'd be an ideal time to switch my fuel to bottled fuel cause I keep hearing how bad ethanol fuel is for these small engines...im pretty sure thats what killed my last mower. Thoughts?
My customers love the fact I can just replace the carb so affordably. Hard to beat those 50-659. I try to keep at least one on hand all the time. For example I have a small Murray machine in right now where the float pin is rusted in the carb, it's not worth messing with where I can just replace the carb.
Excellent as always and couldn't be more timely...my Craftsman 10/32 snowblower with tracks needs a carb...and now I know which one to get and how to install it...Do you think you could do a video on rebuilding the trac-plus tracks on one of these units... Cheers from Kenora NW Ont

Good Video and great teacher! Do you have a preference on using an adjustable vs nonadjustable carburetor? Also Amazon has many inexpensive replacements for the Tecumseh carburetor. Do you find these reliable?
I prefer the adjustable but only Oregon carbs. the adjustable ones from ebay ad amazon are a crapshoot
Thanks
Thanks Don. Do you have a video on a 6 h p toro power thro 622 carburetor installation.
I have wondered on the ones I replace----has it ran poorly right from the factory?
nowadays I do get some that run poorly from the factory!
What replacement model did you use? Where did you get it?
Is that ok?
Always informative content. You have saved me quite a few times. Happy Thanksgiving from South of your border.
- James
I installed a new carburetor on a Simplicity 860 a year ago and this year the snow blower backfires. Is this a carburetor issue or sparkplug?
How do the linkages go from the carburetor to the governor please?
Awesome video! How do I know which Tecumseh carb I have in order to cross reference the Oregon?
Always enjoy and appreciate your well done vids over the years. I would like to see more snowblower repair vids with the newer China made Honda Clone engines like those made by LCT, Powermore or Zhongshen. As these engines are much more common in recent years. All the best.
Well done Don, any suggestions for a Zama carb on a Echo blower? Already replaced with a new adjustable carb cannot find right combo of hi/ lo adjustment to run right. Thanks, Mark
try 1 1/2 turn out for each screws
@@donyboy73 thanks for responding Don, tried 1.5 turns on low/hi mix screws,
No start/run until 5.5 t on lo
mixture screw, still no transition to high rpm. Compression is good, plug is new, spark looks normal, believe problem is in carb, fuel lines and filter are new from i-net source. Frustrated.
Mark
Thanks for clear & complete instruction. 👍
Would it be a good idea to use a thread lock such as Loctite to prevent screws from vibrating out?
yes
Just not a lot
Very detailed video explaining exactly how to do a carb swap.
I recently changed the carb and throttle linkage spring on my snowblower but it's still giving me issues. At low throttle setting, when it gets a little bit of load it wants to stall. If I give it just a slight bit more throttle, it over-revs and I have to kill it. Any ideas? I was thinking maybe something to do with the governor?
The fuel line is hard to put back. I wish you show that in the video. Wondering what you use to do it.
Hello sir. Could you tell me what carborator I need for a craftsman C950-52131- 0
I have a 2018 Ariens deluxe 28 is shooting oil from the exaust hose, do my carb needs to be replace or rebuild .?
Are the non adjustable really the cats meow? Am I gonna have any issues with one at 8500 on the mountains of Colorado?
Do you have a video about the throttle lever? I replaced my carburetor and the lever doesn't seem to move the linkage. It is like it lost it springyness?
I would enjoy an updated shop tour video.
Yes me too
Change the carburetors on my 8 hp and 11 hp snowblower.
Also, will this effect the headlight?
if safety key wire is disconnected it will not affect the light
I have the exact same snow-blower.... yeah.... I'm not cleaning next time ;)
This video is now in my Craftsman folder (videos make such great user-manuals) ;)
will this carb fit a YARDMAN 10HP trax blower 2000 year model??
As I just commented on your Belt replacement video, i watched this yesterday and easily replaced my carb. My older snow blower makes a new sound. Constant rev instead of up and down! Thanks. I have now subscribed. Curious as to your location and accent. I suspect Ontario, and possibly some French background? As my brother would say mwa si mwa si
Excellent video Don.
Thanks a good screwdriver does make removing the carb much easier like you say....
Im glad you cought the loose muffler. Would've sucked in bad air in the carburetor with the cowl on.
does using a fixed jet carburetor vs. adjustable carburetor make for fewer operating adjustment problems ?
it might but the adjustable carburetor is much better!
Any ideas?
where can these replacement carbs and equipment be purchase? Thank you
amazon, ebay, but better to get original carbs from dealer
Great job man .this video helped me a bunch.
What's best, adjustable or non-adjustable? My snowblower came with the non-adjustable kind but now that I need to (possibly) replace it, which type of carb would you recommend? Thanks!
OEM is better but the Oregon aftermarket are good and cheaper
@@donyboy73 I finally spent a few hours cleaning the old carburetor, following the instructions in your videos. I'm not very adept at fixing engines or anything mechanical but after putting everything back together, the snowblower started at first pull! I couldn't believe it! Now I need to figure out how to adjust idling, which is not bad now but I don't know if perhaps it can be made better. Thanks a lot!
Reuse the adjustable jet.
Thank You.. exactly what I was looking for.
Great!
I have a toro ccr 2450 snowblower that won’t start. I added new gas, fuel filter, plug & switch.I checked the plug & ignition with spark plug tester & I have spark. Bought an after market carb & installed. Still won’t start. Help!
I changed my carb out with a new one and same with the spark plug. The danm thing still won’t start. It worked fine last year. Please help 😩😩
Good video, makes me think that even I could do this work. Thanks!
I have a Tecumseh # HMSK80-15542T what model carburetor would I need it would be a great help .
Ordered a rpm meter to check high speed, other then that fan appears good, belt not slipping.
Would like a video on how to install the kit on the carburetor for a 8 horse Tecumseh
Thank you professor, I just purchased a non-adjustable carb & fuel line. There was no where to enter the discount code on the order form. Thought I'd give you a heads up on that. I hope it goes easy fore me the same as it did for you. Cheers !!***.
usually at checkout
@@donyboy73 I know I looked, I pressed the back button at one point, I don't know what that did. I finely got there and I placed my order anyway.
How do you replace the bowl with out taking the carb off . Every time I try the gasket messes up and I do have new gasket on the carb bowl.
What size of gasket is on that carburetor?
Does the 8 HP Tecumseh use the same carburetor?
on snowblowers yes
Thanks DonyBoy, another clear and helpful how-to vid. Question: after I get the new carb in, i feel like it'd be an ideal time to switch my fuel to bottled fuel cause I keep hearing how bad ethanol fuel is for these small engines...im pretty sure thats what killed my last mower. Thoughts?
yes bottled fuel is very good but it might get expensive. I use only premium non ethanol fuel from the pumps
Find an ethanol free pump close by and use that.
Which way should you tip your snowblower, when you need to clean the fuel bowl. What is the safest way to prevent any damage
jet and bore size is not too big for a 8hp tecumseh HM80 engine?
Nice DB73 quality video - thanks for sharing
Very interesting and informative video. Thank you Don 👍👍👍
