  • Teaching Pronunciation Made Easy - new course from ELT-Training.
    www.elt-training.com/course/t...
I have put together everything I know about pronunciation (that's quite a bit over 30 odd years of teaching English). It includes some background philosophy about pronunciation (what holds learners back and the whole interesting can of worms about pronunciation and identity), some theory (from the basics of the phonemic chart to more sophisticated aspects of pron) and all of my favourite, tried and tested ideas for incorporating pronunciation into your everyday class practice. Lots of great take-it-to-the-class ideas!
It's designed to take you from the beginning of things and give you a really thorough grounding so that you feel not only confident and happy about teaching pronunciation but really enthusiastic. Your learners will appreciate it too!
If you've looked through the internet and wished that you could just find a friendly, engaging and knowledgeable someone who would sit down with you and tell you all about teaching pronunciation, without assuming too much but without being patronising, this is the course for you.
It's a comprehensive programme- 30 video tutorials, quizzes to check you're on track, transcripts and downloadable pdfs. As with all of my courses, you've got lifetime access to the materials and if you don't like it, just let me know within a week, and I'll give you your money back. No questions.

Jo this is great, I look forward to it! Funny enough I had a student email me last week after a substitute teacher covered the class. The student requested a pronunciation lesson after the sub had mentioned to the student about their pronunciation development needs. From the email I was a bit concerned about my student's confidence and not surprisingly my student had had their confidence knocked. Fortunately I was prepared to discuss with the student situations such as who is to say what is the 'correct' way to pronounce words (think of bath and scone), plus regional dialects, etc) my recent linguistics studies can in handy during our chat! We also discussed there are more people speaking English as a Lingua Franca than native speakers. Plus, we revisted the student's main aims which include developing their English skills with other internationals, as a Lingua Franca. After the chat we did have a pronunciation lesson, the student enjoyed it, but also mentioned at the end that it isn't something they want to do regularly. It did get me thinking that I have put pronunciation quite far down on the list of priorities we my students, so this course has come at the right time! Teachers are as unique as students, I like to discuss with other teachers teaching methods such as corrections and of course each teacher has their own opinion! I am looking forward to this course and it will definitely be a well used in the tool box - keep up the great work Jo!

Hi Simon- thanks for the feedback. I think this is a really common problem for teachers (and learners) and I think that integrating more pron work through out classes is a great way forward (both for speaking and listening).
