Hey Scotty. First time commenter, but I'm looking for your input. Love the sixth gen Camaro and have dream of getting one for myself (Tall guy and I like the way I fit in it compared to the other two big muscle car brands). Do you have any thoughts on the ZL1 or just the reliably of a supercharged v8 in general?
Hi Scotty, I've been watching your videos for quite some time, and was wondering if you could share your input on my situation. I bought a 1st Generation Toyota Highlander (2007 V6) with 180k miles and the transmission fluid has not been changed since 30k. Should I get the transmission fluid changed and if so, should I do a drain and fill or a flush? I went to a transmission mechanic near me and he said that I should not change the fluid. The fluid is not fully black yet and the car shifts fine.
Excellent advice. I used to have a GMC 1500 Sierra and the automatic transmission shifted terribly up and down from day one. When I traded it in for a Toyota Highlander Limited Edition, I was on my third differential. Also, I had a GM credit card with which one earned points that could be redeemed for the purchase of another GM/GMC vehicle up to $3,500. Then, those creeps changed the contract and the points were only redeemable for cars that didn't sell. NEVER AGAIN GM/GMC.
Changed my timing belt on my 2007 Honda Odyssey myself. $250 parts, time: free, father son time: priceless. Don't get a 2007-2011 Camry, with the 4 cylinder 2AZ-FE engine. It had an oil leak, past the rings. There was a recall for it. Had one, do your research. Ran great, just poured oil in it. Not worth the engine rebuild. If it didn't get totaled, I'd still have it today.
We have a 4-cylinder 2006 Solara that drinks oil with 250K miles on it. Decent car but it's left us walking a couple of times. Got a kid in college abusing it now.
I work at a vehicle assessors agency... Avoid all JLR products, I would say we see less V8's than all of them, they're better than the Diesels due to the DPF's etc etc
Another reason manual transmission is better. No need to trouble shoot the complicated electronics like the useless automatic ones. So you will drive without any worries.
You are one of the few people who have no interest to favor one car over the other. But when people who don't want to hear it because of their lack of understanding that, the cars that have been looked at in our society as a measure of success, require a lot more than just gas. If you are not ready to spend the 800 dollars for a BMW, range rover or Benz factory maintenance fee, then you better keep shopping. Keep doing what you do. I think that your honesty is fantastic.
Scotty - those dust shields should be thought of as ball joint shields. When you're hard in a braking zone and the rotors are glowing red that piece of metal shields the ball joints and other suspension components from heat. If the brake ducting is designed well, it can keep the other side hundreds of degrees cooler and help the air push out through the wheel. See the Corvette J56 system that is nearly a complete seal with the wheel face.

I changed the transmission fluid and filter in the transmission pan on my and my son’s ford f150 5.0 coyote engines at 150 and 160k miles with no problems. I also changed my Audi’s transmission fluid and filter at 110k with no problem. I did not change my bmw at 200k for fear it would cause a problem but it is going ok so I will let it ride. I think it depends on how hard the vehicle has been used in my opinion. I also change the differential fluid and flush the radiator at 150k. I believe in PM
I don't understand why Hondas are so highly praised when then continue to utilize a timing BELT on their 6 cyl engines. That is a HUGE negative as their engines are interference. My Nissan Note is faultless and it has a timing chain. 88 K mi after 7 years.
I just inherited a 1999 Ford f350 v10 triton super duty U-Haul and packrats got in the engine bay over the past year, it was cleared out but there's some damage and the only apparent issues i know of so far are that the battery and the fuel filter are bad and there is some casing and insulation damage to some of the wiring in the upper engine bay. It was maintained by U-Haul until 2009 and it was running 3 years ago. where should I start when it comes to getting this thin in working order?
Scotty, test drove a 2017 sienna today, trans felt weak and weird. Independently mechanics are too slammed with customers right now to have a look at it before i buy. Im seeing comments on other channels about several issues with the 2017. Have you come across this yourself?????
After the sucking oil has its way. . . The converter will costed and maybe cherry hot. . . Those might be 'mode lights' or the convetor maybe full of oil?
Hi scotty, I got a few questions about a 2019 Ford Explorer I'm thinking of buying. It has 40,000 kilometers and they're asking $40,000 for it. It has a natural V6 but when I started it up I hear a ticking sound in the engine what is your opinion about this. If you can answer this will be greatly appreciated thank you from British Columbia Canada.
Jeep. Don't buy a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. I bought mine new then but last year, the transmission shat itself. 60,000 miles, serviced every 6 months and no off-roading.
Chrysler, GM & Ford doesn't design engines/transmissions as well as the Japanese. The hemi engines existed long before Stellantis bought Chrysler. Since Chrysler had merged with Fiat, they haven't come out with a new engines or car models. The Chrysler 300 was also dated.
Maintenance is very, very important. I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.7L engine and the 545RE transmission. It’s solid but you need to follow the “extreme”. Operating guidelines for lubrication. If so you will have no issues. Problems are a lot of Jeep owners drive it for 80-100k miles and change no fluids of any kind. They don’t replace shocks, diff, trans, or transfer case oils suspension parts, hoses, it’s a shocker. Good maintenance, synthetic oils and you are good.
If you ever buy a Honda pilot those have the J35 A9-Z1 with the timing belts that need to be replaced and changed out every 7 years, 100,000 miles. If you ever look at one make sure that it has been replaced or changed out if not you want to get that done as soon as possible. I have an 2007 Honda pilot with 276,000 miles my timing belt was done 6 years and 82,000 miles ago at 194,000 January 2018 and I’m thinking about getting it done in a few months and it’s gonna cost me $1499.95 for the timing belt kit at the Honda dealership plus the $550.00 for the valve adjustment in bank one and 2 with new valve cover gaskets so we’ll see how it goes when I get it done for $2100 roughly
Americans in general make a bog deal out of Hemi. Back in the mid 1970's my Dad's Alfa Romeos (he had 5 of them) all had hemispherical combustion Chamber, Twin Cams, Twin Carbs (either Dellorto, Webber or Solex) and PER LITER OF DISPLACEMENT they made more horsepower than all American hemi engines which were all pushrods. So yea Big deal about Hemi.
Around $1000 to change a timing belt on a honda? I paid $2200 for belt, tensioner, and water pump on my 2015 Crosstour v6. Is $1000 your price for the work. Fireztone wanted the same price.
Of course you change the transmission fluid! Says so in the owners manual. Two issues - age of vehicle and operating environment. Scotty is talking about really old cars. Follow Toyotas, or whatever the makers recommendation.
I got free transportation from day one and don't need gas or electricity and I use them every day and never broke down its called legs and feet and they were a gift from GOD.👍
Yeah you should! I have a 2010 Mazda 5, change transmission fluid at least every 100k miles! Best to follow the extreme service recommendation in the owners manual. And only use Mazda fluid.
Scotty, when it gets super cold out like 5F and below my 2006 Lincoln town car throws a bunch of codes and runs super rough til it warms up then it runs fine. What could that be?
It makes no sense that GM puts quality into the 2500 trucks but not in the Silverado's. I wouldn't buy either of them. Especially based on one person's opinion.
Scotty thanks for your tips on the 2021 Toyota Tundra TRD-PRO. When I initially started looking at trucks I was gonna get the 2022 Tundra TRD-PRO, but I saw your video and that changed my mind completely. This truck in my opinion is the very best truck ever made period. It's smooth and powerful at the same time. I wish Toyota would've given us consumers a choice between the 6 and 8 cylinder, because I personally believe that a REAL truck has to have 8 cylinders. Again, thanks for your video on this truck, because it's the best vehicle purchase that I've ever made.
Scotty, loved the segment about hemi engines at the end of this video - hilarious! And, you're right - the Chrysler hemi engines ARE really old! I think the first one came out in the early/mid 1950's, and they were valued for drag racing. As a kid, I remember seeing hundreds of dragsters with a 392 Chrysler hemi engine topped with a GMC 671 supercharger. Loved the racing, the smell of nitro and burning rubber, and the thunder!
BUT, the GMC 2500 is identical to the Chevy 2500. They come off the same assembly line using the same parts. Only the badging and some sheet metal are different. Both the Chevy and GMC HD (2500-3500) trucks are far superior to either brands' 1500 versions.
Yeah, Scottie's talking about a Chevy 1500 (Silverado) and a GMC 2500 heavy duty. I think GM's 1/2 ton is still called the Sierra. Underneath some slightly different sheet metal, grill, interior detail, and badging the 1/2 ton Chevy and GM 1500s are the same and come from the same plants. The same holds true for their 2500 3/4 ton pickups.
@5:30 It is about the experience, not horsepower figure, unless you go bonkers and tune it for the dragstrip. That applies as much to the V8s as it applies to the V12s. As long as there is still demand for it, they are going to be produced.
How goofy , comparing a 2500 GMC to a1500 Silverado, apple and orange comparison, mechanically a 2500 GMC and Silverado can be the same, and I am a truck guy
@@hypermiler12314 Not familiar with that motor. But, a Carter 1-barrel and iron head sounds like something I'd be excited about! Keep them simple and they will last forever. Chevy 'stovebolt,' Toyota 2F, simple.

Hey Scotty, any tips on when to use the tow button on my Chevy Silverado 2500hd? I typically tow about 3-4 ton but could go up to 6 ton on occasion. I generally use the tow button every time but I figured I would ask to make sure.
All the tow button does is smooth out the transmission shifts so you are not constantly downshifting or upshifting under load! Less strain in the power train, it puts you into a different rev range with a higher higher rpm and horsepower curve. It does not increasing the Gross Vehicle tow weight beyond that listed for your vehicle!
@irish6976 thanks. I did notice it shifts at higher rpms. I think it also engages transmission braking. During downhill driving it says grade braking active. I was just curious at what weight should I use it. I usually tow 3 tons but I can hold 7 ton
I have a car, a V6 and I do max 5K miles and have the oil change 18 months apart, highest grade synthetic (not cheap) as recommended by the manufacturer. Also oil filter of course. If I keep this from now on, am I doing anything wrong? The engine has a good reputation and can easily do 200K+ Miles. The car has 65K Miles on the clock. Our climate is similar to south California.
Scotty I own a 2014 Nissan Sentra, I haven't had any issues, off top of your head is there anything I should be aware of? Don't see much Nissan content from you so I'm not sure. Love the content!
I just replaced two purge valves on my 2013 ford escape and my check engine light came on again and it keeps saving manufacturer control. I feel like I’m pissing money away. Any thoughts?

Everything older from GM was better..
Scotty doesn't know 🎵🎵🎵
How goofy , comparing a 2500 GMC to a1500 Silverado, apple and orange comparison, mechanically a 2500 GMC and Silverado can be the same, and I am a truck guy
Scotty thanks for the information 😊
Scotty, Thank you for educating the people on vehicles. Your hand gestures and personality is so entertaining. KEEP up the good work.
I love scotty's italian accent...
Video should be labeled blah blah blah exclamation point I don't want to watch a video that's nothing but blabber!
Bring back the laughing animals 😁
Hahahaah I always love them
Inline engines. 4 or 6 cylinder.
4.9L Ford engines inline 6 are great
@@hypermiler12314 Not familiar with that motor. But, a Carter 1-barrel and iron head sounds like something I'd be excited about! Keep them simple and they will last forever. Chevy 'stovebolt,' Toyota 2F, simple.
Scotty know
Scott my 07 yaris has 144k on it. I don't know if Trans fluid was ever changed. Too late? Can I still do the filter
I personally wouldn’t touch it considering how old the vehicle is
@@ismailelsahli thank you
Change the fluid and filter for Pete’s sake!
You must only pick questions from the same people. I hear the name "Hodgie" in almost every other video.
Anyone here brought a JEEP ?
American made. Hahaha
How can we vote Scotty for new US President!? 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂😂
One of my neighbors has one that’s been parked his driveway for several years because it needs a new transmission and it cost too much to replace!
It's a shame about Land Rover.... They make some beautiful looking SUV'S and it's why fools keep buying them.
Pure certified gerbaaaage
These are freaking great
Hey Scotty, any tips on when to use the tow button on my Chevy Silverado 2500hd?
You know who's fault it is SCOTTY!!!
Freaking Scotty's Italian accent! 😂🤣
Love it!
uuuh.. which brand specifically was it? you mentioned several in the video.. and didn't really bring any outside land rover to the front..
Scotty, you do a good job, ty
omg, Scotty speaks Italian too.
Scotty I own a 2014 Nissan Sentra, I haven't had any issues, off top of your head is there anything I should be aware of? Don't see much Nissan content from you so I'm not sure. Love the content!
I love the side pictures 🖼️🖼️🖼️😂
Rev up Scotty’s warnings.
I just replaced two purge valves on my 2013 ford escape and my check engine light came on again and it keeps saving manufacturer control. I feel like I’m pissing money away. Any thoughts?
Rovers are junk!
No you didn't warn me about anything your a lier
Jeep liberty 2002 to 2007 are they good vehicles give me your opinion
Why back the blue when the blue doesn't back you? Trusting police is like trusting the worst car brand.
We know who you're voting for. The one who the police don't support.
Over stereotyping. Many put their lives on the line every single day with a starting salary of $30k
@@LReno-di9cm police are revenue collectors for the state. Policing for profit is another form of taxation. Nothing glorious about stealing people's money over victimless crimes.

Silly statement.
