  • We went back to the drawing board to solve some teething issues with the first iteration and now, here’s the NEW Grand Tourer MkII! Featuring an ultra-thick automotive-style seal that runs the entire way around the underside of the roof, as well as a double-thick seal across the front of the tent it’s now completely waterproof. We’ve also added additional internal bracing to the ceiling, making it stronger than ever before.

I got the MK2 about 3 months ago now after the Kwiki tent shell failed. I saw the issues with the first version so i waited for them to be addressed. Key things to note from my experience.
    The good
    * Insulation falling down has been solved and the roof feels sturdy and solid now they have additional internal ribs.
    * The seals around the edges are very good, you need to adjust the latch so its putting the right amount of pressure when closed. its very easy to do.
    * The quality of the welds is quite good for this grade of budget item, not great but better than expected and shouldn't be an issue.
    * The canvas is secured by both velcro and mechanical fasteners. While i would prefer the sail track used in the Kwiki tents, this is still working well.
    * Room inside is excellent, looks tight from outside but more than enough inside.
    * The carpet finish on the roof and floor is great and helps deal with condensation.
    * The optional velcro organiser is awesome, there is a clear pocket in it that will fit a tablet so you can slot it in and watch a move in bed if the weather is bad.
    The bad
    * The rivets on the roof skin still leak water, but it's easily fixed with a dab of silicon.
    * The mattress is too firm and too heavy and has to be swapped out. Careful when taking it out as it will likely catch and rip on some of the rivits.
    * There is a fair bit of condensation on the aluminium inside when camping in the cold, this is just a fact of camping in hard shell tents if you keep the windows closed.
    * The design of the awning could use some work. If it tapered down following the line of the side windows, the poles would then tension it better and help keep down the flapping in the wind.
    My Tips:
    * Clark rubber sell single foam mattresses and two of them side in there side by side. They have 4 grades of firmness so i was able to get one suited to me and my partner. I have shaved about 7KG off of the tent and the comfort is now excellent, that kind of weight saving on the roof is significant. What's more the Clark Rubber mattresses are about 300mm shorter so you end up with a storage area below your feet, this is great for extra pillows, blankets, or bags.
    * If you are going for solar on the roof, get two of the 110W panels, they will fit side by side. buy a few large sheets of double sided 2mm foam and use that to stick down the panel and then tape around the edges. The tape is important as it helps prevent lifting at highway air speeds, aluminium duct tape is best for this.
    * Dont bother putting the tent on a rack, just install it on 4 load bars. No less than 4! You don't want aluminium flexing when driving offroad as it will work harden quickly and fracture.
    * Cut the zips off of the built in awning. The wall kit they are used for is near useless on anything other than a still night and a 270 awning is fare more practical. The zips will keep you up all night if there is the slightest breeze.
    * Use an elastic strap to pull the awning tight on either side when its windy, this helps keep the noise down at night.
    * If you have a big awning on the side of the tent and cant get the awning spring poles in you can bend them by doing this. Head the end of the pole with a torch until red and then bend it into a Z so it will clear the side awning. Once you have the shape right, heat it up to red hot again and dunk it in oil (motor oil will do) to temper it again.
    Hope that helps you guys.
    Cheers.

@@davidhemmings5676 no worries. As a side note after running this for almost a year, don't glue down the flexible solar panels. They cook in the sun. Mine have done from about 95w output each, down to below 30w each. Use a traditional glass panel and it will last 20 years, rather than 12 months....

@@Sethjxl 100% that was the only tip I knew was wrong. May I ask, how much for the mattress you put in?

@@davidhemmings5676 Yup, i've played with flexible planes for a while now hoping they were the solution but it's just too good to be true everytime.
The mattresses that I use are two of these. One firm and one soft.

Both of them together, you can cover them with a fitted sheet for a double bed. If you like camping in winter, chuck one of these under the sheet and you are comfy in -5` temps.

Just picked up and loaded mine on a trailer for the ultimate base camp. I've added a thin foam mattress and woollen underlay for extra comfort. Can't wait to go camping. I'll be sure to post a video on it soon.

@@TM-fd3fs I bought an mk2 version, set it all up did one trip, opened it the next day cleaned it out and shut the tent. 2 weeks later i opened it to find litres of water inside and mold. I contacted 4wdSC about it but they say some condensation is normal (apparently 4-5 litres of water is normal) this has ruined everything I had inside the tent from pillows, rugs and sleeping bags making them and the tent unusable. [DO NOT SPEND MONEY ON THIS TENT] they will not refund mine saying that it's only condensation
