- Like many American cities, Los Angeles has seen protests following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. In addition to peaceful protests, there has also been rioting and looting. To see what LA looks like from the air I flew my helicopter on Sunday, May 31st, 2020 from 1PM - 2PM over downtown Los Angles, Melrose, Wilshire, Beverly Hills, and Rodeo Drive.

When you look out over how vast the city is below but then realize that those riot/looting things are just tiny little specks in all that vastness it makes for a clearer perspective... thanks for providing a clearer perspective.
So true. If anyone thinks its black and white, think again ~ To fly above it all a true perspective. I was messing around with Call of duty the other day Huge fight in the neigborhood kind of like the movie Red Dawn The fight was furious but i let the front line move on as i paused in the neighborhood in the video game looking around at the destruction and noticed the fight wasnt here anymore i walked backwards thru the map and had another amazing experience. As true thru the LENS OF MICAH. I found comfort with your comment Dave. Its good to hear the understandings and awareness of this perspective. its a speck A loaded one but we are so little The nature of it all is ablazing~ all thing s for eventual good but its a painful walk that is beautifully painful to walk and witness. To fly above it all wow thankful to see this

I love looking at the architecture, and I loved it when you flew over the tops of the downtown office towers. How cool is that? Down here in San Diego, they burned a couple of banks to the ground and looted a bunch of places but it was all contained within the La Mesa area. I can't believe that they were able to completely destroy the two banks...

Have you ever flew over the Le Brae Tar Pits? I saw Le Brae Blvd. and thought of it.

He was actually pretty close this trip. The Tar Pits are just east of Fairfax and a little south of The Grove.
I was in Los Angeles for the Rodney King riots of 1992 and tried to fly out of LAX. Aircraft were not allowed to fly over the city so there was an hour of landings over the Pacific, followed by an hour of take offs. The entire core of the city was on fire and easy shocking to see from the sky. I think there are lessons we still have not learned as a country. As like to clean up after riots and move on quickly, which may not be the wisest approach or we will be back here again and again.
I was in Washington DC. Rodney King situation looked way way worse. Just an LA thing tho in the end. Anytime Cities tear themselves apart we have failure and platitudes do not do the circumstance justice. Since the media amplifies the problem by making narrow minded claims the situation does and indeed in this instance has exploded Nationally. This was an International situation long before this happened is conveniently ignored as well. People are so easily distracted by the nonsense they don't understand how centralized Media is creating a false reality and indeed false belief system as well. *We are not We the Sheeple!* cannot be said enough

Hi, a nice break from this craziness.... Would love to see a fly over of the Del Amo fashion center in Torrance and most importantly, the Madrona Marsh next to it.... I live very close and love to visit the Marsh (ducks, baby ducks, Canada Geese and babies, Great White Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Great Blue Herons, Red Winged Blackbirds, Hawks, Kestrel, frogs, snakes, etc etc..... LA is still there, infrastructure hasn't been damaged...they got a long way to go.
Hard for me to imagine how many people live in los angeles and just how big it is, their is 5 million people in my country and only 380,000 people in my city.

Thank you that was very helpful, especially the downtown when in newspaper accounts streets are given but as an out of stater, I have no sense of direction. A vlog I follow out of Beverly Hills did a walk about this morning and nothing happening today except board up and clean up. Fun to see it from the air and yeah, hopefully the organizers of these coordinated riots will be found and delt with. LA is tooooo beautiful to mess with.

My first airplane ride, a Cessna 172, 10 years old, out of Torrance Airport. Aug. 1965, the Watts Riots were going on. I remember the controller telling my dad " Don't fly over Watts. They're shooting at the airplanes !" That was not a good situation. Neither is this.

mykalimba ....I’m not from LA but when I’m overnight at the Veterans Hospital, i venture out and I too saw that construction on what appeared to be Wilshire? The more underground transportation I can use my tap card on, the better!!!

Very good video, I live in the Minneapolis suburbs and thankfully because of a geographical barrier (MN river) we have not seen that much looting or rioting, except our local county courthouse/government center was set on fire.

Try Google Earth. I did that with my grandmother's old apartment. You can switch from above to street view. You can also sometimes adjust the view by date.
