I’m just started taking this after feeling depressed and hopelessly. My Dr.said this will help my appetite, and help me sleep. I experienced agitation last night ,taking 30 mg. I’m going to try splitting it tonight. Great forum . Thanks
I've been on 15mg for 4 weeks now. Mainly for anxiety but also because other antidepressants gave me a bad side effect. For the 1st week I was really jumpy for some reason but that went away. Over all I'm loving the effects of these, I sleep alot better I feel calm and happy and don't over think things like I would have normally. My appetite is great and 1 strange thing I'm honestly loving is the crazy dreams lol. Wish everyone the best of luck with them
@@mrc.p8423 I felt like that for a few days and it was hectic as I work doing heavy lifting an driving machinery. Id say 7.5mg would be like a heavy stoned felling lol, but higher the dose the less drowsy you'll feel. Does get better after a while
Wow! I wished more doctors would cover what you just did. I've been on Mirtazapine for over five years (War Veteran/Severe PTSD). I've never received the side effect information which you provided which many apply to me. The VA loves to hand out meds like candy....seriously!.....most people don't complain because in most cases, the meds work but more importantly, it's free. I personally liked Clonidine. It relaxes me and causes drowsiness but has little side effects (at least in my case.) However, I also take Clonazepam to reduce anxiety. Clonazepam and Clonidine do not react well with one another (at least according to the information I've seen). Keep the vids coming. I enjoy them.
Combat veteran. 30 years in to PTSD. Been thru the common psych meds and started Mirtazapine maybe 8 months ago. It works really great. Not staring at walls and counting seconds. I can fall asleep at night without much effort. BAD part is the weight gain. And bad timing. I went sedentary when COVID hit. I weighed 190 lbs for probably 20 years (I'm 6'0). Then gained 15 lbs in COVID weight. And now up to 235 after Mirtazapine. I accept responsibility for not exercising. I have a VA nutritionist that has been helping. She suggested that I play word games on my tablet while watching TV (which is where I've been binge-eating). The word games have almost eliminated my snacks. I've cut down on my meal portions but still keeping the weight on. I think if I want to stay on Mirtazapine, I'm going to have to go super hardcore workouts. Walking and cycling doesn't cut it.
Hi. I have tried them all. I spent my younger years covering myself with the usual burns and scars that happen when you dont understand what is going on. I finally owned up to it , realized why i was doing it (and spent years trying them all. Mirtazapine changed my life. The only one with no (absolutely no side affects) (with the others they made me suffer diahorrea , worse depression, often losing half of my bodyweight). 30 mg before bed. I can still never get the feeling that i think most normal people get? But i am now 50, i have been on mirtazapine 30 mg for three years and i finally have days where i feel a bit normal. I am still very introvert but i guess thats just me atb xxxx thank you for your message, but it really can do more than a few weeks

That’s one of the weird effects I have experienced...weird nightmares and very light sleep....it helps me fall asleep but my light sleep prevented me from have a full night. I started taking melatonin gummies and the weird nightmares have reduced and my sleep is a bit deeper.
I had a nightmare where I was shielding Joe Biden from an attack and he was yelling out how ridiculous it all was, then I was faced with doors and opening doors that didn't have handles just wall pieces, then climbing staircases to random people's homes they all had different coloured walls and the whole Time I felt embarrassed.
Firstly, the excessive next day drowsiness subsides after a few days of use. Secondly, the weight gain doesn’t! I have put on a HUGE amount of weight after 2 years on 45mg/day.
I’ve actually lost weight since upping the dose to 45mg- only weigh around 6.5 stone now with zero appetite at all!!! I WISH it caused increased appetite for me! 💚💚
I started taking 15mg. My first dose was last night and today i feel dazed. But i dont feel sad or hopeless just tired. I have depression, aniexty and loss of appetite. So far, apart from feeling sleepy i am happy. I woke up this morning and made myself breakfast cause i was so hungry..... and i never eat in the morning usually dont start getting an appetite till about 3 or 4pm. I have had an appetite all day and i feel relaxed, its lovely.
It is normal, that you were dazed and tired in the morning or even the whole day. After weeks or two you'll feel better. For me it is the best drug that i've ever get for my insomnia. Taking already 2 years 30mg/day and I sleep like a baby. Also helped for me with appetite problem, I eat regulary and my weight is finally normal (I was unhealthy thin). I wish you all the best and good luck !

I’m hoping it’s not too much (making me too groggy the next day) but hope it’s high enough to increase my appetite
I just wanted to point out that Remeron can be Rx’d for social anxiety & PTSD. Best candidates are those who have failed SSRI, SRNI, or other more common antidepressants, have trouble sleeping and or eating. I had suffered needlessly for 5 years failing standard drug therapy unable to sleep and had lost almost #30 in a year. I was skin and bones by the time my doctor suggested it. It has helped both sleep and appetite. 🤷🏼♀️

Ive been taking mirtazipine 5years ago to help aid my eating disorder, throughout ive fluctuated between doses but for the last year have been only taking 45mg . Mirtazipine is sneaky with all its side effects and it wasn’t until I ran out of medication for me realise how addicted and dependant I now am. time flies when your having fun 🙃 Also be mindful especially if your taking mirtazapine and live alone as you’ll primarily be In a sedated and clumsy state
It's not addiction, it's dependence. If it's improving the quality of your life then it's for the better. I hope you're still having success with it, and if you've changed medication then I hope that's working well. There's no shame in being dependent on a prescription medication if the therapeutic effects are in the patients eyes worth it. I'm dependent on my escitalopram to keep my compulsive thoughts and anxiety at ease, I'm dependent on my pregabalin to keep me out of debilitating pain, and I'm dependent on my ritalin to keep my ADHD in check.
I am caring for a family member who is vegetative but "awake" (unresponsive wakefulness syndrome) and goes through periods of seemingly minimal consciousness (response to verbal commands). Because of weight loss, we were prescribed Remeron but all it did was cause what appeared to be nightmares characterized by panting, shaking head and uttering gibberish. If a patient is diagnosed as unconscious, why would such an individual experience nightmares or dreams from Remeron? I have since stopped Remeron and there are no more bouts of intense panting and writhing, utterances, etc. I told the physician and neuro they were as perplexed as anyone. Any other similar experiences with VS patients?

I have been on this drug for roughly 5 years now. I have taken other antidepressants but this one worked best for me. I’m on 15mg and was bumped up too the highest but I had heart palpitations from it. Before I was on this, I was a size 4 maybe 6 before I was on this and now I’m a size 12. I’ve tried to come off of it and as soon as I do I can’t sleep or eat. Only till I tried to come off of this did I realise how dependent I am on it. It does help my depression but now im more depressed because I’ve never gained this much weight before and feel very over weight although I understand im not but I’ve never been this size in my life. I’m 25. I do recommend for people who want to stop smoking weed because it helps with the sleeping side of things. Just be careful if you don’t want to gain weight.
Yeah I’m disappointed my doctor didn’t warn me more on the weight gain. I’ve gained almost 20 pounds in 6 months and I’m a very small petite person. I’m so sick of always feeling hungry and never satisfied. I think I’m gonna come off it. Not sure what to switch to for anxiety tho

Edit: I guess the question applies for the both of you 🙏 Buspirone is used for the short-term and long-term treatment of anxiety disorders or symptoms of anxiety. It is generally preferred over benzodiazepines because it does not activate the receptors that make drugs like alprazolam (xanax) addictive. My doctor recently stopped prescribing Lunesta. It’s a great meditation that had no noticeable side effects and was excellent for insomnia. He then prescribed Trazodone, which did not help with insomnia, and the side effects were awful. They included feeling confused and unbalanced for 2-3 days after taking it. After telling him about the side effects, he prescribed Mirtazapine. If only he prescribed Lunesta, all would have been fine. He’s pressed for time and seems to simply pick a medication that has a side effect of helping insomnia. These past three weeks have been hell.

The dreams are very vivid and its hard to get out of bed most of the time. Ive always had a big appetite so i havent noticed a difference with over eating. So far so good.
I started about 2 weeks ago and my sleeping is getting better and I'm eating regularly now which is a bonus because it's hard for me to put weight on so I love this medication and also lowers my anxiety 🙏🏽👍🏾
Please do not take this poison, please meditate and practice mindfulness. This is dangerous, this might help u with insomnia but it has range of side effects that r not worth ignoring, it caused me severe joint injuries, excess fatigue, it increases cholesterol and block arteries , increase appetite in some ppl. Please research on neuroplasticity and law of attraction . Our brains can change its structure based on what we feed regularly. We have capacity to cure insomnia and depression from practicing mindfulness and affirmations. This might sound funny but we are extremely adaptive. Like how u can grow muscle from going to gym, u can grow grey matter in your brain and increase serotonin levels naturally from giving exercise to your mind. We dont have second thoughts when we are told abt going to gym, but we instantly feel its bulshit when we are told about meditation and mindfulness. Meditation is not magic, its just excercising your brain like u doi for body. I suffered chronic insomnia for more than 3 years and suffered depression, suicidal thoughts and even planned before. I hit rock bottoms several times and i was in pain. I took these medications for sleep and it was giving sleep but i suffered fatigue and injuries. I wasn't able to go to gym after getting injuries. I suffered severe acne from lamotrigine given for bipolar depression , the lorazepam given for anxiety was losing its power because its like alcohol , we become tolerant after certain point and it was no giving sleep and they gave mirtazapine for sleep. It can cause weight gain , fatigue and injuries. These medications r more harmful than beneficial, i researched on how scientists discovered that practicing mindfulness , affirmations and meditation changed the structure of brain. I started doing it sincerely and continuously. My life is transforming everyday and i m getting better and better. I want you to believe in yourself and make a change in your lifestyle , see what happens

Mirtazipine is the easiest to get off of . They have studies on this . I got off from 30mg abruptly in a few days asked by my Dr as I was trying Luvox. Luvox was not for me so went back on Mirtazapine 15mg. I gained about 30-35lbs of unwanted weight when on my 30mg. Although I had severe panic attacks
I'm loving the more appetite with my Mirtazapine because I put on weight which I think is really positive for me...I'm a skinny guy and it's hard for me to put on weight but since I've been on Mirtazapine my dreams have come true I'm much bigger and happier 🙏🏽💪

This is for anyone struggling with chronic insomnia, it can get better trust me. I ended up developing chronic insomnia after a heath scare and didn’t sleep for close to a month straight. I tried every natural medicine and also tried hydroxine and thc. Nothing worked. I eventually found Cbti and started following the protocol as strict as possible. Months went by and I saw improvements but still only slept 2-3 hours a night. It took me 6 months of retraining my mind. I’m happy to say today I sleep better now than I did before my insomnia started. I went through a really bad situation that left me devastated... I am in bad depression and my psychiatrist put me on these. I haven’t had any weight gain (most likely because I’m in the third week) but overall I like it. I want to stay on them. And hopefully gain some weight lol
I have been these for 10 years, be careful of going cold turkey with this. I get terrible tingling sensations in my legs and arms when I am off that of it so be careful if you're considering long term use.
Mirtazepine gave me my life back. I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in middle school with no fam history. I ended up having a semi-alive pancreas and was a type 1 pre diabetic. I was 120lbs as a result and was 6 foot 2. This medication allowed me to eat more and gain 30lbs. Also, regulated my depression. Fixed so many ailments. If you are underweight due to a serious underlying disease and are depressed this is the med for you.
Still not answer u should try and get off them contrary to popular belief they are addictive when I ran out used to panic like oh no I can’t operate without them
The grogginess generally improves after you have been taking mirtazapine awhile, if it does not improve you may need to speak with your healthcare provider about reducing the dose or taking you dose a littler earlier in the evening.
I've had to stop taking this. I think I've experienced most of the side effects. When a few years ago i was fine now at 40 i think I've encountered most of the side effects. Depends on your willpower really. You don’t feel full as fast so it would be up to the user to I guess “control their eating on it. Personally I can’t, so I’ll eat 2 whole pizzas and everything in sight if I can 😅 put on roughly 20 kgs (not sure what that is in pounds) in 1 and 1/2 - 2 years. tapering will really work. work your way to the lowest dose 3 weeks at a time. then, at the lowest dose, cut the pill in half with a cutter, then quarters, then bite the quarters in half if you have to. then alternate days, then go every 2,3 days. go as slow as you need to

Works great for my depression and insomnia. The brain zaps with SSRIs were awful, and I don't seem to have those with mirtazipine. Really a struggle to keep the weight off, though.
I have been also on 60ng for two years. Gained a lot of weight. But it helped me cope with depression greatly. But, don't know when to stop taking it esp when planning to get pregnant.
Took my first 15mg dose last night, I was out cold for 9 hours and all my anxiety was gone. Not looking forward to the weight gain however it’s so worth it.
@coap 90: I am PETRIFIED to take my 15mg's of mirtrazapine. I KEEP putting it off, as i HATE taking any types of meds. I "haven't" slept in days, weeks! I feel like i'm at deaths door, but don't want to take it, if it's going to make me feel worse in the mornings WHEN i get up, than i do without it. This is why i keep avoiding it.
Do you still have a great appetite for being on Mirtazapine 5 years later
Lucky they don't give you shit about the clonazepam. My doctor makes me feel guilty with only 10mg of valium. I have severe ptsd and disability too
Combat veteran.

Edit: I guess the question applies for the both of you 🙏
Buspirone is used for the short-term and long-term treatment of anxiety disorders or symptoms of anxiety. It is generally preferred over benzodiazepines because it does not activate the receptors that make drugs like alprazolam (xanax) addictive.

Aye, trouble is if got a lot of manual work to do then this stuff never has helped. Proper crazy dreams & fatigue when awake.
I believe the night mares have to do with the person not the medication lol

Can 45mg be too high for people with extreme anxiety?
First night I took this I had a great trip on it. Lucid memories about the two houses I grew up in during my childhood saw details I couldn't recall anytime previously.
I took a tablet of this once and it knocked me out. Was laying, my heart was beating heavily. Sweating etc. Couldn't open my eyes. Thought I will die. Lasted for an hour or so. Then slowly I came back.
That was Probably a Serotonin Syndrome effect. I am glad i read your comment, cause i was prescribed this med and i was afraid to start taking it. I live alone and a episode like that, would kill me.
I've been on (45mg)Mirtazapine (sublingual tabs)since September/aug 2010 and I ate like a horse I was making midnight runs to 7Eleven and put on 18-19kgs in 6 months but I needed it. and since then I've managed my weight and my mind is rite and I sleep like a baby....and I no longer suffer from cluster headaches...
Are you still on it..or withdrawn
Still taking? Thanks
Still on it?
Will this stay in your system all day
Works great for sleep. I use 15mg
It has worked where ssri never did. Has given me a cough and I'm a bit slow to get going in the morning. But generally functioning quite well. Especially given the difficult times we are going thru
@@hrvojestilin6256 well, 3 months on I found that was upto 45mg. This stopped my anxiety, but I was seriously dopey till about 9 am. And then functioned quite well most of the day. I slept very well but had crazy dreams. Then started feeling nauseous on and off during the day. Xmas is always challenging so I had an action plan, so reduced my alcohol intake. I had few bad days where I had to reach for my lorazepam. This is how I manage a day that is getting out of control. And it was only 2 days. So only 2 15 mg pills. So got thru xmas really well.I now have dropped down to 15mg which is half a tab. Very little issues currently and my life is full of stress, but it doesn't phase me and I'm functioning really well. How are you coping?
@@hrvojestilin6256 not too bad. I have a good break over the xmas period. Here in NZ we have no lockdowns or restrictions, so I'm doing lots of the stuff I like doing. Work is a bit full on, and I got the news that back problem isn't immediately fixable. So have to deal with a lot of pain. This can put in a tail spin. But I have had pain counselling which kinda works.
How’s the libido on mirtazapine
@@EE-ie9gm really good. No where near as bad as SSRIs, fluoxatine etc etc. Can function quite well. This an important feature that helps with the cascade of negative thoughts when you are in the black fog of depression. Its one less thing to worry about.
On 1/2 of a 7.5 dose now, as higher doses caused weight gain. Doesn’t work as well as the 7.5. Anyone know if 7.5 causes weight gain as much as higher doses?
Hi, I was taking 7.5 mg of mirtazapine for nearly 3 months but it was making me very groggy in the morning so I switched to trazodone a couple of weeks ago. I crosstapered for only 5 days, 3,75 mg of mirtazapine and 25 mg of trazodone then I upped trazodone to 50 mg and stopped the mirtazapine. About 5 days later I started to have bouts of light dizziness and slight nausea. I am also having sweaty palms and sometimes feeling off. I also take escitalopram for GAD and depression. Can the symptoms I am describing be withdrawal of mirtazapine? Can it be the side effects of trazodone? Can it be that the dose of escitalopram is now too high? ( I started 3 months ago with 10 mg and upped to 20 mg about 2 months ago)
An increase of only 25 mg shouldn't cause anything like that. I started with 50 mg and fluctuated up to 150 mg depending on how the anxieties are that day. Though my base is 50 mg and no issues but sleep.

Works great for my depression and insomnia. It's a struggle to keep the weight off. The only other side effects was Restless Leg Syndrome. Mostly RLS occurs on starting or changing the dosage, but I had it pretty bad recently on a stable dosage.
@John C I'm on 15 mg. Yes, it works right away. Though if it causes RLS, which doesn't seem common, it will take a few nights for you to adjusts.
@@RichardSmith-ot3zk I take 7.5g and when I tried 15mg I had rls. It sucked?
@@bobdigi500 I've cut back to 7.5. I got a CPAP machine for apnea so I don't need as much help getting to sleep. And the pounds were starting to add up. I found that the RLS happened when I changed dosage, so maybe you could adjust to the higher dosage? Or there's meds for RLS you could try.
@RichardSmith-ot3zk I've actually been ok on 7.5mg, but I'm going to begin to come off them.

Hello what dosage are you on
This medication at 7.5mg per night caused chronic pancreatitis for a family member and they had a hard time tapering off to alleviate the pancreatitis. Please be aware Mirtazapine is strongly linked to pancreatitis.
Yes, It cause

what is the best dose for mirtazapine for insomnia ( sleep onset is ok but wake up too early cant fall back to sleep ) ? others say 15mg some say lower than 15mg ( 7.5mg ) is best if you go higher ( 15 or 45mg ) it become less effective for sleep aid. thank you
7.5mg best
7.5 and 15

This medication works amazing for me. Im prescribed it for depression and insomnia. The only odd side affect i get is ...... Sleep eating. Yup i get up and eat something and vaguely remember doing so the next am. Anyone else do this? I guess increased appetite would be another one as well.
Just got it prescribed this is too funny tho... not yet.
@@Haloitzchris let me know if you wake up with chocolate smeared to the side of your head like I do lol . I seem to target sweets. It's a small price to pay for feeling way better. But it's a strange side effect. But it's a funny one at least.
I've been on it for 5 years and just learned that it interferes with the satiety response, i.e. the part of your brain that tells you when you are full... so frustrating to eat, not feel full, then gain so much weight and not know for years that this was the medication and not my lack somehow
@@BEAKERBOT that would explain why about 20 minutes after I take my medication I literally can't stop eating nor get full. Also explain the sleep eating part of it. Unfortunately I'm one of those people who can't gain weight no matter what I eat , so I didn't get the weight gain associated with this medication. But I can certainly understand why people would gain weight.

Did you come off it
Am I the only person who takes 3.5 mg? I sleep well and have less panick attacks.
This drug has been very helpful to me. Helped with my sleep. Did make me gain an extra 30lb I didn't want, but maving my sleep and mental sanity back is worth it. I'm currently trying to go off of it, as now I feel I am ready. I halved my 7.5mg for 3 months, then went off entirely. I started getting itching randomly all over my body, and especially on my scalp. My sleep also got a lot worse. I went back on half of 7.5mg for now. I'll have to try another approach.
Can u give us updates? Let us know

I take 60 mg each night before bed. SSRI's messed with my system badly. Mirtazapine treated my symptoms without knocking me on my bum.
