    The Playmates 1990's Star Trek line is my favorite toy line of all time. It's one of the few toy lines I've completed.
    A couple years ago I bought an extension for the engineering playset from an independent seller that was a literal childhood dream to get.
    What fans are doing with 3D printing is amazing.

    I'm so glad there are a million ST figures. Means they are cheap, plentiful, cheap and this still fun to collect.

    The old playmates line was one of those I consistently hunted when it came out. I've got buckets of them in storage. Especially favorite was the gorn.😛🍿

      @@seanstoyroom2021 In that size run, yup. Annoyingly, like the Generations figures, a couple of the main cast are missing from release I think.. Geordie in this case I believe, Riker in the Generations line. I repainted a Thomas Riker from DS9 to bring the contingent up to full crew. I didn't bother with the "bigger" First Contact figures as they were the wrong size, although I bought a Lily by mistake without checking the size difference.

    This is all very similar to what I wish Playmates had continued on with, especially with elements like Picard's area, or imagine a holodeck set that could have come with endless addon props/backgrounds. I'm still trying to find a complete bridge playset, and then a way to display it all, and these sets look like really great new add ons!

    It's wild that I have a similar story. My mom and I watched all the next generation seasons till it ended. She bought me all of those figures in wave 1. I ended up giving her back Data cause she loved him and I had moved on with other lines. But Wow that 10 forward. I would have used that with my toybiz xmen for sure haha

    Is that Ryker's twin, from that one episode, in the gold science/engineering uniform? I was wondering why he wasn't in red for a minute...wish they would've kept him around for more episodes, like they did with Crichton's twin on Farscape.

    This is why I’m hoping resin 3D printers become more used later on. The quality of models the printers can produce is wild now. I’d imagine resin printers making these same models within noticeable waffling. Pretty sure Hasbro partnered with a resin printing company to even do the selfie series face sculpts.

  • @loganjorgensen
    @loganjorgensen Год назад

    In hindsight Playmates really dropped the ball on playsets bitd, how do you roleplay without a helm, furniture, places seen in the show? In a way they sort sealed the fate on the line as older fan collectibles often left in packaging for display purposes Ie. heavy on characters, light on locations.
    Off the top of my head the Holodeck certainly opens up lots of playset options, Holmes, Robin Hood, Noir. Just for collecting sake Data's living quarters would be fun, Spot included. ;)
    The slice lines are getting smaller and tighter as the tech progresses but I think resin printers probably are the best at small scale stuff like toys Eg. the built in smoothness. Very cool though, makes the old figures more appealing.

    These are cool, and I think I still have most of my Playmates figures from then? If not, a certain StL SoCo shop you wiped out after your review has a bunch of the figures that nobody really touched. Ask Robo and VeeBs. I met them there a couple months ago on their way to watch you rassle. 😂🖖
    I really need to dust off my 3D printer. If it even still works? It’s a filament feed, but I’ve been wanting to switch to resin, which needs an aftercare set that is almost as much as a basic resin printer. 🙄

    I got to be honest the people that are doing 3D printing are great, I even bought a couple of smaller pieces the problem is and this is a huge problem it is super expensive. I mean you could spend $1,000 in no time, most people can't afford that you know I mean I wish I do think that once 3D printing becomes more mainstream and the machines get cheaper down the road the price will go down but you're right this is awesome stuff
