I truly never understood how this test worked for two reasons. One, leather shrinks when wet, so of course it wouldn’t have fit probably. Two, you can commit a crime with a loose or tight glove.
I've also got gigantic hands like Kawhi Leonard the claw and it's a tight fit and not very comfortable at all. You can jam your hand in but it's not ideal for dexterity.
Also, ive yet to see a comment about the fact that they had him try them on WHILE WEARING RUBBER GLOVES! Youre not gonna be able to put leather gloves over those rubber ones! SMH

Truth be told, it didn't matter all that much whether the gloves fit or not. The jury would have found him not guilty anyway. The gloves belonged to Nicole as brought up in court. Just because there were gloves on the scene doesn't mean they belonged to the killers... In fact, no killer would leave behind gloves. Leather gloves will shrink dramatically when left outdoors overnight, especially if they were to absorb any small amount of moisture. The prosecutors were negligent and lazy. They should have purchased a new pair of these gloves in the same size for him to try on without latex gloves underneath.

I'm in a forensics class and we studied this case awhile back. We focused on what the police, prosecution, and defense did wrong in terms of evidence handling, and talked about how the evidence can be presented within a court case. In regards to the gloves specifically, there were 3 major problems with having him put them on during the trial (among many other lesser problems). 1. The gloves, which were made of leather, had been wet at a point, meaning they would have shrunken some. Even though they weren't much smaller than they had been originally, the defense took this opportunity to say that they couldn't possibly have ever fit his hands because they didn't fit in the courtroom, even though they had previously been a correct size match to OJ's hands. 2. The defendant was asked to directly handle the evidence, which allowed him to push his narrative and manipulate the gloves to his own benefit. 3. Because so much time had passed between this point in the trial and the collection of the gloves, the size of his actual hand could have been changed in various ways, whether it was through different dietary habits or a change in medications. There was a lot of wrongdoings within the law side of this case as well, but I'm no expert in that field so I can't give too much of a statement on that :)

What's funny is that he was found guilty in the civil court and was made to pay 33 million dollars to the family of the victims. That proves that he did it. The only props I would give to anybody is his lawyers aka the Dream Team. They did absolutely amazing work (obviously putting the moral aspect aside).
OJ was just lucky. The trial happened when DNA testing was still relatively new. The jury didn't have much faith in something they didn't understand. Plus they were too distracted with the likelihood that the arrest was racially motivated. The trial become more about racial issues than Nicole's death.

I'm in a forensics class and we studied this case awhile back. We focused on what the police, prosecution, and defense did wrong in terms of evidence handling, and talked about how the evidence can be presented within a court case. In regards to the gloves specifically, there were 3 major problems with having him put them on during the trial (among many other lesser problems).
1. The gloves, which were made of leather, had been wet at a point, meaning they would have shrunken some. Even though they weren't much smaller than they had been originally, the defense took this opportunity to say that they couldn't possibly have ever fit his hands because they didn't fit in the courtroom, even though they had previously been a correct size match to OJ's hands.
2. The defendant was asked to directly handle the evidence, which allowed him to push his narrative and manipulate the gloves to his own benefit.
3. Because so much time had passed between this point in the trial and the collection of the gloves, the size of his actual hand could have been changed in various ways, whether it was through different dietary habits or a change in medications.
There was a lot of wrongdoings within the law side of this case as well, but I'm no expert in that field so I can't give too much of a statement on that :)
Was the fact that he was already wearing nitrile gloves when he put them on come up? I feel like the material would make it harder to put on another pair of gloves
Another comment here said the lawyers told OJ to stop taking his arthritis medication so his hands would swell up, making the gloves harder to put on, linking to your third point
@@poisonivy2298 the nitrile gloves are used to protect the (evidence) gloves from contamination, but yeah it's possible that it could have affected his ability to wear the leather pair.

@@chillmushroom6016 No, because when the Robert Shapiro put on the gloves to see how big it was, he didnt have on white gloves and they were still too small. The only reason they were confident enough to hav OJ put on the gloves is because Shapiro tried them on himself and they compared Shapiro's hand size to OJ's hand size and OJ's were much bigger so they knew there was no way it could possibly fit his hand. The white gloves had practically no effect.

1. He looks to be trying to stretch his hand out so that it won’t fit
2. He already has latex gloves on while putting on the gloves
3. Leather shrinks if it has been wet, including when it has been soaked in water or blood

He also stopped his blood pressure medication so his hands were swollen

What's funny is that he was found guilty in the civil court and was made to pay 33 million dollars to the family of the victims. That proves that he did it. The only props I would give to anybody is his lawyers aka the Dream Team. They did absolutely amazing work (obviously putting the moral aspect aside).

OJ was just lucky. The trial happened when DNA testing was still relatively new. The jury didn't have much faith in something they didn't understand. Plus they were too distracted with the likelihood that the arrest was racially motivated. The trial become more about racial issues than Nicole's death.

Obviously he did it, but their job was to prove to the jury beyond reasonable doubt that OJ was guilty of killing them both. Because of fuhrman and the gloves, they became suspicious of the lapd.
