The Next Hobby I had a blast making it and really enjoyed showcasing Jannis. He’s an inspiration for anyone to just get out and make something of yourself through photography.
Great video and wish you good luck and all the best. I came over from Dirkson Photography and of course subscribed to your channel. Greetings from Stuttgart, Germany.
Hey. Thanks for taking a look at the video. I’m glad you liked it. I had a blast making it. Part 2 will be out this Sunday and thanks for the subscribe.
New subscriber here! I really enjoyed your videos, and will be looking forward to more content. I'm going to look at Jannis' videos too, he offers great advice for portraits. I'm looking myself on start doing those too!
Hey, thank you for subscribing. I put a lot of effort into this video, so it means a lot. Jannis has a great channel. You could loose track of time viewing the countless street portrait videos he has. Plus he’s a top bloke.
Hi Alan, earlier I found the videos of Jannis and from here I come to you :-)) Nice collaboration, nice videos you have here, like to see more ! I'm a streetphotographer too ( Straatmoment ) in Amsterdam and thinking a longer time to do something like this but it's the little "fear" still holding me back :-)) Maybe one day :-))
Hey Hans. Thanks for the comment. I take it you have seen Jannis’s Amsterdam videos. They’re something else. I will be getting back into the videos soon. I was out of action recently with a knee injury. Maybe I’ll have to do an Amsterdam visit at some point. It’s one of my wife’s and I favourite weekend get aways. You should try the street portraits. I still get the irrational pre nerves beforehand but I’ve never had a bad reaction. It’s usually the opposite, a positive experience. For me the great thing about this form of street photography is that you get to give the gift of photography to other people when they’re not expecting it.
I have to try this "take a friend with you" tip. Doing it on my own is way too difficult for me, but I feel like this extra person can really push me to do this finally :D
dorozina It definitely helps! I struggled with approaching strangers for ages but as you’ll see in part 2, just having a friend in the background helps. Good luck and have fun with it. People are not as scary as the world news makes out. 👍
@@WILDANDSTORY I can imagine that it changes the dynamics of this situation completely :-) Suddenly you have not only some support and an external motivation, but also the witness of your embarassing failure if you don't try ;-)
@@WILDANDSTORY Oh I was under the impression he gave them the images for free. They type in a code and get access to their images. I wonder if everyone gets the same code (and can see other people's images) of he hides each person's set and somehow remembers who got what code. Sounds complicated, so perhaps not. So if and when he goes out _without taking video_ , he charges them to for access? Doesn't make sense to me, so perhaps I have that wrong.
The Next Hobby Without going into Jannis’s process too much as he has a course on it. Essentially when he films the street portrait shoots, they’re free as he genuinely enjoys giving the gift of photography to others. The other street portraits are free, they get an individual QR code for a particular website he uses. They can view their images only and if they want can buy individual/all or none. No pressure. They’re are some other little nuances and I’ve been trying out different approaches for different scenarios. The thing is to just to give the people you meet a great experience.
looks great!
Thanks Jannis. It was an absolute pleasure to visit and film your work. I hope your viewers find it interesting.

@@WILDANDSTORY Thanks for your message, Alan, of course, I saw the Amsterdam-video :-)) Also for me, my favourite city :-))

Indeed... it’s easier to make excuses when your alone. Choose a good friend who will support and not make fun though.
Does Mr Dirkson sell the photos to the people later?
He doesn’t when he films for his RUclips channel but otherwise they can buy them later if they wish.
