    After 1.5 years, I love it. It has some winter annoyances (goes HV below -12C, wet snow fouls radar and sensors) but none are deal breakers. For my driving I fill tank every other month when around home. Love to drive it.

    I've driven my Prius Prime Premium for over 2 weeks. I am getting 59 mpg only in hybrid mode. regular drive, not eco mode. Daily 50 miles commute in California traffic. No hypermiling, just regular driving. I think is better than the expected 54 gpm. Great car so far. I will start charging the Prime once I set-up my garage. I expect about 120 - 130 mpg.

  • @The8BitGuy

    The only disagreement I have with the video is about the charging. So, if a person says that the Prime is better because it can charge 25 miles of battery range in 5 hours on a standard 120V outlet, big deal. So can any other EV or plug-in Hybrid. I can get the exact same 25 miles of charging in my Volt. The only difference is, my Volt would still only be half charged. But if I drove 25 miles or less per day, then either car would recharge to full in the exact same time.
    Having said all of that, I think the Prime is a great car for the money. It would be my second choice after the Volt.

    This model was a challenge to obtain in Washington State. Toyota of Tri-Cities, in Kennewick WA traded for mine. I have had mine since early March, have 1250 miles on it, drive in town, has an electric motor range 28-30 miles per full charge. In our small town, there are some charging stations and have used them. To date, I have put 2.1 gallons of gas, and $7 in paid charges. Compared to my truck, I am saving about $180/mo delta for gas. Thus, it has been a great purchase for me.

    From the rear it makes the 1959 Edsel look attractive. Sometimes, looking at the new priuses, I've wondered if that wasn't what they had in mind. A little 1961 Mercury Comet too. Might have been the same designer. The rear end styling of the Prius, but especially the Prime, is reminiscent of those cars. The buying public thought those were ugly too.

    Hybrids are not a bridge between ICE and BEV. They're a delay tactic used to keep people using ICE. Their lower performance and weak batteries help automakers keep people thinking that switching from ICE means sacrificing power, range, or both.

    Toyota is launching one of its largest recalls on one of its most popular models-the Prius hybrid.
    Covering all Toyota Prius and Prius Plug-in models built between June 2015 and May 2018, the recall involves a wiring harness for the car's hybrid power control unit, which can chafe and start a fire, the company told Reuters.
    The problem surfaced in Japan, where one Prius began smoking, and led to the recall of more than 1 million cars worldwide, 192,000 of which are in the U.S. Affected models were sold in the U.S. as model years 2016-2018. Owners will begin receiving mailed notices this month.

    • @cheepcheeps1170
      @cheepcheeps1170 7 лет назад +1

      Yeah if you're going down hill it will charge the battery. Plus if you don't use the air conditioner it gets a 25 mile EV range. Even when the air is off there is a little bit of passive ventilation happening so you really don't need it that much. Depending on which charge station I use, sometimes it will charge to 26.9 miles.

    • @danwat1234
      @danwat1234 7 лет назад +2

    The back end is just as ugly as the front end of 2016. Wtf are they doing? The back end looks so busy and childish

    4 seats and the large screen are no-go for me. The Hyundai Ioniq plug-in is my next car.

    Question? I own the 3rd generation Prius and was curious about a plug in hybrid. Why would you need to plug it in if it's a hybrid? Doesnt the battery charge when you drive it??

      Phev aka plug in hybrid is mean to serve as a bridge between full ev and hybrid. This type of car caters to those that have “range anxiety” or those that live in area where EV charging isn’t so friendly but still wanna have a semi ev driving experience. You can charge it when driving but goal is efficient range and driving.
