Keeping an open mind for now, purely because I trust Tafo not to scam the community, and I trust him to do due diligence before vouching for something like this
That said, I'm still not fully comfortable with the proposition, especially with the ambiguity surrounding where this source of financing is suppose to be coming from. Seems like an early injection of financing is happening now to drive usership, but after that, then what?
Keeping an honest ear open, but I am definitely skeptical for now

Appreciate the openness, in short, I view spending to be pretty quick. Ex. We need to fund a player to go to X event, then I would just withdraw whatever rally that we accumulate to fund the flight. We have raised already a few hundred dollars, that I want to take to the community to see where we want to spend this!

I've always considered the potential for something like this... I'm far from being an expert or even remotely knowledgable r.e. crypto or any issues pertaining to that so I'll leave that to those who know better... but I do think that you could bolster confidence & a willingness to commit from the community at large by starting the process of defining how we would dictate where money should go, by which priority system or method of triage we would adhere to... I understand that you're considering a general voting system and as a grassroots community this does make sense, but I wonder whether there should be different elements to consider that the majority of the community might be a little bit blind to (for example, the melee community are largely American and might vote to fly a struggling American player out to a tournament, rather than a regional player who might be suffering through greater adversity/economic hardship due to a myriad of circumstances relating to their country or their countries politics). Similarly, a popular vote would incentivise funding for majors over locals by design... would community members vote to save a struggling local tournament series that isn't actually /their/ local scene?
Perhaps the popular vote is the way to go and no general parameters dictating what 'priority' or 'need' should or really could exist... it's a difficult thing when it comes to grassroots because this would probably necessitate a group of figureheads to make impactful calls and the general community might feel disdain for this level of control... but I'm essentially just brainstorming here.
I understand that people will raise concerns like mine, or concerns relating to crypto or the makeup of this kind of fundraising system, but I hope that these concerns can generate healthy & productive discourse from the community, because I'm confident that Tafo's proposal is well-meaning and he's ultimately motivated to find new ways to support our scene out of passion & sincere concern for its longevity. All I'm really trying to say here is, if aspects of this idea are determined to be problematic, I hope that we can address them in a healthy way rather then resorting to anger or unfounded, personal criticisms.
It's scary to propose a concept like this to a community like ours, and I respect endeavouring to try in the face of all of these scary potential repercussions, so let's just try to foster the sort of community where people aren't deterred from proposing ambitious ideas through fear of backlash by being mature when/if we choose to raise our concerns.

Done. Signed up! Thanks for trying this initiative. Happy to support everyone at no cost to the community. Are there more initiatives besides just signing up to support?

Hey! I actually work for Rally's sister company (Superlayer). This is super cool to hear about! I'm curious -- where exactly is that 100 RLY-per-signup coming from? Who actually controls that "community fund"? The vid is a bit loose on the details.
I will say I genuinely believe that Rally isn't trying to scam anybody. They just want more human beings using their site, and they're willing to give out monopoly money to get signups.

Hey Eric! Nice to meet you. The rally is coming from the growth initiative fund that rally is doing right now. I made this specific proposal to them and they liked the idea and that’s how this campaign was born.
As far as community fund goes, I want to see how successful this goes and will likely make a second video to explain what we will do. In the case this only raised ~$100 then I would just donate it straight to Genesis. But since it looks like it will be larger, I will get a list of emails of users who signed up and try to do a vote system as a makeshift DAO on ideas

@@tafo912 cool to hear! I do think a DAO-like system for community funding and decision-making would be great for melee. All the disparate decisions around rulesets, mod acceptance, controller legality, etc. could use some kind of central authority that's more transparent than the MBR was. Probably a long ways off though.
btw, we did meet briefly once, several years ago. You came to Riot to visit smashgizmo, and you played vs my Doc a bit in the break room.

    Kickbacks? Free money? I'm in.
If this fails, then it's not like anyone lost any money, right? It doesn't sound like you're asking anyone to invest money.

While I expect this to completely fall flat, the concept of a DAO for funding tournaments, flying out players, etc. is something we desperately need as a community. Think Smash Summit vote-ins, but applied to so much more. We can do a lot for Melee with decentralized finance. Blockchain is unfortunately still misunderstood by the majority of people so I think you may just be a tad early on this one. Maybe we'll have better luck after the Great ResetTM.
