Thanks for making this video. I have to install one of these on my shed. It came with 2 side vents but that is not nearly enough. I measured the temp inside the shed on a really hot day, it gets to about 140 deg.
thank you so much for youe video really a big help. been wanting to put like this on my roof but don't know how hope you could also show how yo assemble the whirly bird blades since the item does not come pre-aassembled here. thanks
Nice. You could also use screws with built in rubber seals then put the sealant over them to be double safe. I'm about to install a couple vents, my place has none and the heat radiates through the ceiling.
Yeah, I didn’t think about the screws with the rubber grommets already on them.. those would be great to use as well,, but I can only imagine a house with non-and how much heat is in that attic lol
Yeah it’s fairly easy to do!! And being this may be your first time doing one it may take you 30 to 45 minutes to do just one but once you figure out how to do it your second one should be a little quicker!
I would go in the attic and drill a hole through the roof right in between rafters. That way you know exactly from the outside where the center of your fanbase needs to be. I did that with a kitchen vent install and it helped me avoid the guesswork of locating rafters.
@@problemsulfer yes, you can do that as well, but sometimes attic roofs are pretty high, and you can’t reach them,, most the time you could find them fairly easily by banging on the roof
Hey man; rough or not, you got er done! My house is 60y.o. At some point in it's history, one of these was installed. It's made of galvanized aluminum or tin, i think. there is only the one and the house has a high hip roof. I see it up there "working", as the rising hot attic air does turn it veery sloowly. The attic is still hot as hell. It makes me want to motorize the darn thing. The attic is literally sealed off with no gable or other vents at all. I was thinking of pointing a fan in the turbine's direction? Would that help matters? Don't really like the idea of having an appliance up there that i can't monitor but i'm desperate. Any ideas at all? Thanks man
(1) No one has video of roof around Turbine vent and how to seal it. (2)How to shingle Trapezoid roof with large area, where to start, how small the end shingle can be on the end of first row etc. (3)how to Install ridge cap and hip cap tips without the vent on ridge. (4)How to install Open Vally shingles, where to start, which end to start. (5) Where to Install the flashings on roof eg step flashing, apron flashing etc Can you make some videos of that? We had hail storm in Calgary Alberta CANADA. Thounsand of guys will thank you. If you can make 5 videos.
Hi I want to know if the outside temperature is 45 Degree C and the inside temperature is 40 C. Bu installing Whirlybird in each room will reduce how much temperature inside the rooms?
Your attic temps should be within 10 degrees of outside temps. Make sure you have proper air intake at the soffits. Air from soffits should be able to reach the attic through the insulation by what’s called air chutes. The turbines are to expel the heat in summer and winter. If you have a heated attic in winter you have poor insulation and you’ll be susceptible to ice-dams on lower part of roofs by gutters. Room temps in the living space will be isolated by proper ceiling air sealing management plus insulation in attic. I’m in the middle of this project installed soffit vents yesterday.
I mean usually most people put them for sure over a garage because most garage is do not get insulated therefore they tend to hold a lot of heat and sometimes it travels into the rest of the house and keeps the house a little warmer than it should, But you can put them over any large attic areas to help remove some of the heat out of the attic.
Have you ever gotten mice that crawl in the openings and into your attic. I was thinking about installing a couple of these but my biggest concern is the mice getting in my attic. For those who ask how can mice even get on the roof, they’re great climbers.
No havnt had that issue yet! but to avoid that, you could always secure a mesh screen th the underside of the vent inside the attic. to prevent , birds, mice, leaves. etc from getting it!
The crazy thing is, I have the same turban, but it does not matter what you put the slope pitch on. It doesn’t change the angle or anything of the whirlybird.
It really just depends on the direction your existing Vents face, I’m sure there will be times where they are fighting each other, Because honestly the vents you have already Are usually pretty good..
Great video, much appreciated

I like this video. Super simple and to the point. Because I would definitely forget this or that and have to use a dang scraper too!

got me subscribing because of your wonderful video 😂
How do you prevent rain water from getting inside?
Did you have to put a bead/calck under?
It doesn't help to put those turbines in at the top if you don't have adequate air intake on the bottom.
awesome Thks installing tomorrow top of Garage Really was wondering Peak measurement Now got it
Heck yea man! 🤙🏻

I always wonder, no matter how hard the rain is, doesn't the water get in?
Doesn’t seem to
You didn’t remove the cutout from the roof?
Should tou add a screen to keep bugs or any small criiters from getting in?
You can it wouldn’t hurt anything.. just put it over the hole and then put your whirlybird on top
Thanks for the video
thank for a very detail video

I don’t do roofing. Why don’t you seal around the base of the housing??
You made this look so easy. I can see myself two days later with a plastic cover over the hole 🕳️ in my roof 🤦

Any information for a corrugated metal roof?
Thank you! You made it look really easy. I hope it goes smoothly for me, as well.
What if one is trying to install these on a metal, flat roof? I'd imagine that changes the tools used, does it not?

@@Tech360Dallas Okay. I just didn't want them to be counteracting one another in the attic space over the home.
Should I caulk the baseplate?
Wouldnt hurt!
So are those turbine vents supposed to be spinning while the hot air escapes from the roof and or when it's windy out?
Yep! If they don’t spin, they are in a bind, or the bearings are rusty

WOW! This is Interesting but what is a roof turbine used for?
They are to let the heat that gets trapt in the attic out! Keeps the attic cooler and ac gets a little colder!
Keeps the moisture out as well so there will be no molding going on
@@Slowrolling92 yup i installed two of these and it helped bring down the humidity level in the attic
Some folks call em a whirlybird; i call em a whirligig (that a Carl Childress ref.) lol
@@KingdomUploader 🤣
Water doesn’t get in the turbine blades when it rains?
I’m wondering the same thing!
@@MichaelMartinez-zv3ig i installed 3 of these and so far no leaks.
Also the way the turbine head blade is cut its hard for rain water to seep in.
@@MichaelMartinez-zv3ig it has a curve to the blade which helps repel water from getting inside espicially when its spinning
Bugs me that the heat vent turbine is spinning backwards
Cost price of 18 inch
What is it for???
They are to allow the heat to escape the attic in the summer to help keep the house cooler..
But how put it on
Nice but the button part of the flashing should go on top of the shingle.
Thanks for the video... But I could barely hear a word you said.
THIZZLE!!!
Your really gonna just leave the rest of the turbine base exposed like that
No sealer huh..lol...ok
Yep and no leaks!!
Eh
its an Attic Ventilation Rotor!
