I guess at this stage of my life after major life threatening illness for years with health issues I just love the peace of reflection and contemplation. I don't want any drama. I have just found glue books which is really a lovely art form only I struggle to find images as I can't afford magazines. I love being with my boys but they have their own lives and so I do my craft and art and spend time in contemplation. I don't seek out friends too much because I am quite happy to be at home.
It sounds like you're doing exactly the right thing for yourself right now. Perhaps your local schools, churches, recycling centre, or community organization would be able to help collect magazines for you. Just a thought...
I'm 66. I retired from teaching art (after 36 years) right before covid. My husband and I moved to a small, quiet tourist town in Southern Indiana. The drive to my school was just too far away to continue working. I've never been happier. I truly love what I did with the children and thank God for that opportunity. After years of noisy schools, though. My husband and I (he also worked in the same school system) quite enjoy the peace and quiet. We sit most evenings on our back deck, listening to the last tweets of the birds and watching the deer. When we don't have plans, I spend a few hours working in my studio. Right now, mostly gluebooks. I am at peace and happy with my life. Enjoyed your video very much. Beautiful images 😊
Just yesterday, I heard someone remark that we are reborn at the age of 52. So at 53, our brain is that of a one year old, 54, we are 2...and so on. Therefore, at 68 years old, a person's new brain is that of an inquisitive 16 year old. When I heard this, all these new interests I have begun, so different than anything before, made sense to me ❤. I am not odd, just new
I'm nearly 64, what I want most in my life right now is more quiet time to myself with God, so I can really just have a talk with him without thinking about anyone else being around me. The only other thing I'd like to have is my own creative space where I play with my craft supplies, not worry about making a mess and if the project I'm working on isn't finished - I could leave everything where it is, ready for me to start where I left off. Hope this makes sense. God bless you Wendy. Becky B from Arkansas
The gluebook is coming along nicely. I love your designs. I still haven't started mine yet because I have other gluebook projects I want to complete first. At this time of my life I enjoy each day as it comes. Every day is a gift from God. I love to be in nature so I spend time outdoors. It restores my soul to see God's beautiful creation. I also invest in meaningful friendships.
Most definitely! As I get older my wants have changed. I want to do/create things that really speak to my soul. Yes, I go through many different designs until I get one that finds a home in my heart. Wendy, thank you for validating our need to turn inward now.🌸 I'm inspired by you and your processes. Time to enjoy life!
I look forward to your video every week. It is Monday evening here in Australia. I love how your calendar is coming together. It is just beautiful! I am 65 and have bad health and I need peace and close friends and family in my life. 🥰
Yep, I feel like it’s time for me now and yes meaningful relationships are priority. I had 2 mice in my wall once. I made my hubby cut a hole in it. I put gloves on, caught them one at a time and threw them outside….and they DIDN’T return! Yay!
I am 62 and am finding I have missed me. We get so busy taking care of everybody and everything else, we let ourselves just fall by the wayside. We dont mean to, but it just seems to happen. I have been exploring my artistic side that I didnt even know I had until recently. I also have stepped back from drama. I find myself being drawn into everybodies dramas and in turn I get stressed. I have made a promise to myself that I will step back if I see things heading in that direction. I don't need it, I dont want it. I have had my fair share in life now its time for me. I will listen to others but why do I need to be in the middle of it? I dont! I want/need quiet, peace, and comfort in my time for me. I dont think thats selfish, I think its self preservation and truthfully after 60 some years I deserve it. I am going to find and bring back me. I think anyone who loves me will understand and not begrudge this. Quiet and peace. Reading, arting, doing absolutely nothing, thats what I want. Thats what I am seeking.
Oh my! Me too. Our culture makes us (women) the custodians of everyone else's emotional stuff. By the time we hit 60, we're so over that. I'm for quiet and peace, reading and art, and doing what makes me happy, too. Thanks for sharing. 💖
New subscriber...Just happened on your channel and felt like you were speaking to me. I turned 59 on the 12th and started a you tube channel to connect with like minded people. I spent years raising children still r"aising" my hubby. We followed the grandkids to Hawaii and I am trying to find my place. Thank you for sharing.
Yes, authentic relationships with other women, continuing to travel with my hubby, prioritizing my health! And I just found glue books, Sooo happy to have a creative outlet that won’t break the bank! First video and I love your style and way of teaching us newbies!
I've found your channel a while ago - absolutely lovely. And yes - I am a 61 year old woman and I love your words so much, so true! Watching you in Germany. Many hot summer greetings!
Nice pages. I'm 74 & retiring for the 2nd time the end of December. I was a paralegal for 50 years & 14 years as church secretary. I'm ready to just do my crafting & whatever. I've been watching a lot of glue book videos but haven't attempted it yet. TFS
This was my kind of fun. I’m so happy to chat with a woman who is likeminded. Your work (play) is beautiful. Love the bright colors. I’m such a grunge fan in my journals. You’ve inspired me to try something new. Thanks for sharing ❣️
Hi Wendy, I’m 59 and having sooo much fun in my creative space, enjoying my art/junk journaling!!! Our community is very friendly and so engaging. Oh, mice…yes! We’re in the Ontario countryside (moved nearly 3 yrs ago from Ottawa) and cohabitate with the little critters lol! thank you for sharing 🥰💕🌸
Im pushing 70 and as a retired teacher I just want quiet lol But honestly with health limitations now I cant RV anymore, I cant fly, so darn it I am making you tube videos and enjoying every second I have left on this earth and loving my grandbabies and never giving up. Golden years my foot!!
This video came across my feed and after watching it I subscribed. I'm 53 and want peace and calm, I'm a health care worker and I have a craft channel I'm in my first year and am learning all kinds by watching different crafters. I'm looking forward to following along. Beautiful pages, I enjoy glue books/mixed media/Collaging/scrapbook and flipthrough books. I have a collection of those sticker books they are so pretty ❤ I'm in Canada as well 🇨🇦
Good morning. I just got up and found your video. What a nice surprise! Your spread is beautiful! I really like the floral sticker book, think I'll order one. To answer your question, what do I want more out of my life and what's important to me at this stage of my life. I'm 72 and I think what I like most is time to do what I want to do. I've worked hard all my life and now I appreciate being able to do what is most meaningful to me, my crafts, visiting family and friends. My husband and I just enjoy being together. Meaningful relations are important to me too. I've learned to lean on God more and leave things up to him.
Yes, I do love your gluebook work very much. And Super Yes, I enjoy your company as well. I'd be happy as a clam having a neighbor and friend like you, but since so very many, many miles away - we'll just have to be virtual friends and neighbor. I'm going to have to think on your question a bit more. God bless you. Becky B
Morning Wendy, enjoying coffee listening to you. I am almost 70 and I bought a She Shed to create in. It is not ready to move into yet but almost. I will enjoy the quiet time it will give me for sure. I am loving your glue books/calendars you work on. I save all my calendars in a file folder in my cabinet. I will soon be pulling them out and using them. Thank you for all you do! cyndi m.
I'm 52. I'm just really done with drama. I want to enjoy my family, have fun, and help others a little because selfishly I've found many answers to issues in my life by helping.😊
This is a great idea to use a calendar. I’m brand new to a glue book but this idea feels less pressure on messing up. I’m new to your channel and appreciate your teaching and inspiration for us newbies. Hope you have a blessed day.
Your question is really interesting. I’m 52 and single by choice, so I always thought that life was too short to do things we didn’t like, unless, of course, we needed to. So until I was 43, I led my life always as I wanted. I’m a bit of a solitary person, I like to be alone, to stay home, I hate crowded places, I don’t like to go out at night, and everything was fine. I’m a teacher and that was the job of my choice, so even at work, I felt great. Of course, I had my struggles and difficulties, but when you do what you love, it’s so much easier to deal with that. Long story short, at the age of 43, I saw myself in a situation in which I had to be with my father (who had divorced my mother when I was 19) and my stepmother. Strangely enough, I started forcing myself to do things to please them, because they find me weird, strange, different, ... I mean, my father is a really nice person, but, although we always kept in a very regular touch, we didn’t live together anymore and when I was closer he started finding me a bit odd! So, from 2014 till 2019, I saw myself in situations, like going into a pub full of people, that I absolutely hated! And when at Christmas 2019 they decided for me where I was going to spend the holidays, that was it! And I realized that I was not the person I used to be, I was trying to please people, who didn’t appreciate me no matter what I did. From that day on, I spend Christmas and holidays alone, I spend my weekends alone, but I feel I’m respecting myself again. I’m an introvert and I don’t make friends easily, but I believe that being alone respecting yourself and your rhythm and doing the things you really love is more important than being with people who don’t value us. It’s always a pleasure to listen to your thoughts. I was a bit sorry for the mouse 🐁, but I am a city girl, so I get it 😂 ❤️💙💗💜💚💛🧡🖤♥️
I'll be 65 in January and the thing I most want in life is spending time with my kids and grandkids. Second to that, I'd like to get a part time job and earn a little of my own money! We had the same issue as you with the mouse but with a flying squirrel! It came up the back of our couch and was running around behind my daughter's head! My husband ended up somehow getting a towel over it, then set him free outside! I understand not wanting to kill a mouse, but they poop and pee on everything and just putting them outside will solve nothing. They will just find another way back inside! I enjoyed your collaging process. I'm just getting into this!
Yeah, I hear what you're saying about the mouse. I'm from a rural area, just not a farm girl - but I don't like a mouse running around my house and chewing on everything either. You made me laugh and feel happy, just when I needed it, with your mouse story. Thanks for sharing this Wendy. Take care and God bless you and yours. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
Love the mouse story! And another lovely gluebook page.I like how you incorporate the stickers. It really ties the page together. I enjoy watching/listening to you as I do some glue booking myself - very relaxing and entertaining. Thank you Wendy.
I have a phobia for mice. I get nauseous, sweaty and really feel ill when I see a mouse. Luckily I am now living in an apartment on the 4th floor and there is no chance of a mouse getting into my home, especially as I am now on my own.. Your pages look really gorgeous today. Also love bright colours for gluebooking. I will be 73 on Saturday and enjoy just spending time at home, seeing a few friends and my family is very important to me. Love my own company.
@@WendyDewarHughes Really don't know why I have this phobia. My kids used to have fun scaring me with their cat's toy mouse. They were laughing and I was screaming. Thank you for the birthday wishes.
@@WendyDewarHughesGod has helped me so much in many ways since I renewed my Christianity about two years ago. He has brought such peace and joy into my life. I just never thought of asking Him to take the fear of mice away from me. I am aware that Jesus is with me every day in all I do. God bless you.
@@susanstemmet607 Quick story: When I was young I was afraid of deep water (bad swimming lesson experience) so I avoided situations involving deep water. At some point, I decided that, since fear is from the enemy, I would resist it in the name of Jesus whenever it came up. I refused to entertain or be motivated by fear. It didn't take long until fear was no longer an issue for me. I hadn't even applied it to the water issue. One day I had a chance to go sailing with a friend (I live near a huge lake) and I jumped at the chance. While out on the boat it occurred to me that I was no longer afraid of the water. That fear had disappeared when I refused to live with fear about anything. It works!
Hello I just started glue booking trying to get a few things together to do it the fun part is cutting the images out of magazines. I think your glue book is beautiful
I only just found your channel so this is the first video I have watched. I loved watching you glue it was very relaxing. I especially love your glue stick. I'm 60 years old and have never felt such serenity in my life. I left work last year because management was very difficult to get on with. Enough is enough! It is time for me! I work casually in a public library which I enjoy as it gives me time for my grown-up children and grandchildren, gardening and crafting. Keep making these beautiful videos 🌷
Love your videos! They truly are fun. I also love your chitchat. What a great idea to use calendars for a glue book. The large format would work for some of the bigger bits I’ve cut from magazines. You’ve inspired me. ❤️
Hi. I'm also in my last season of life. From South Africa. Health issues. And have only very recently heard of "Glue Books". I have always loved collage etc. Now seeing someone similar to my age doing glue books, has made me scratch out some magazines and thinking of glueing. Thanks for the motivation. Still trying to get some kind of a system going. That seems to be an issue all on it's own. 😅
I think the way most people think of older adults is that we're irrelevant, done, washed up. I think I may have 20-30 years of life left to live and I'm going to make them as fabulous as I can. Let's do it!
Wendy: this is the first time I’ve seen your videos. I like your work. You use color and scale very well. These two pages are very attractive. I like your subject matter too. Carol from California
@@WendyDewarHughes yes, that doesn’t surprise me. (I’m a professional interior designer and run my own business. ) It was quite obvious. I knew you had color and spatial sense. I love collage. I look forward to seeing more of your work. Carol
What a gem! I just found this channel and look forward to more. I am one week retired and all the things you mentioned rang 100% true with me! I always felt compelled to make things to give away and occasionally make something for my home or God forbid, myself! These days I’m so content to make just for fun. Glue books are such a great place to park my brain and rest it. Like doing a puzzle or knitting colorwork. Thanks for taking the time to put together such great food for thought.
Oh that was so much fun! Loved listening to you talk about what matters to you and your voice is lovely to hear, partly because I live in Georgia so mostly hear southern accents. Anyway, wanted to say thanks and to recommend a book titled Eat Cake by Jeanne Ray. She also wrote Step, Ball, Change and Julie and Romeo. If you haven’t read her, you might want to give her a try. Wishing you all the best. Lisa
I enjoyed you glue book and I also enjoyed your nuggets of wisdom Crafting is a big part of my life Relationships like you are super important 👩🏻🦱🧑🦰👩👩👧👦👨👨👧👦👨👩👧👧👨❤💋👨
I have a mouse tale for you. A couple of decades ago, I grew a bunch of sunflowers. I thought it would be a good idea to put them on screens and let them dry in the attic. Duh! Not a good idea! every mouse in the small Iowa town I live in thought it was time for a get together and they all met in my attic. Good grief. Ugh! I found a great way to catch mice though, and it really works. You take a bucket and drill a small whole on each side. straighten a piece of wire hanger and put it through the empty pop can. slide the hanger through each side. put water in the bottom of the bucket, and smear peanut butter on the pop can. The mice smell the peanut butter and make their way across the wire to the can to eat it and the can turns and they fall in the water. Works great! God bless 🐀🌻
Oh how funny, the way you told the story. One year we had a really nice crop of walnuts. I spent an afternoon gathering them up and put them down in the driveway to dry and we could run over them th get the husk off. Yeah, well the squirrels were like " Hey look, free smorgasbord". So next time I put them in those square milk crates and stacked them on top of each other, good idea right? Oh no no no, squirrels can get in those to. I didn't get one walnut that year!! All the work gathering so the squirrels could eat good. The bucket idea is the best. My husband does this every year. It works! Thanks for sharing your story.
We had mice in our bathroom a couple of years back and we put three cats in there and they watched them happily, so in the end my husband put poison behind the boards, I feel guilty now though they were cute. Ps I grew up on a farm too in uk. What is that spreader thing called please, so I can buy please? I’m about to go out to my art room and I will put you in the background for company, can be lonely out there.
That mouse was cute but after it was deceased, we discovered that it had been having the run of the house when we were out. I bought the spreader at the dollar store but you can get similar ones at art stores, building stores, or kitchen stores. Here is a link for similar ones: amzn.to/45qO935
The images from magazines would be copyrighted but my demonstration using them is not. As for the method and style with which I put everything together, copy as much as you like. Have fun!
Is your glue book a calendar? I was told ( when I learned) not to use wet glue on gluebking. but glue. So your opinion is different? I enjoyed this video, thank you. I am 73 yrs. old. What I want in my life now, is peace, A simple life, a few good friendships/ companionship, , meaningful relationships. I have pretty bad health and can't do alot of the crafts I used to. I have chronic pain and sleep very little. I just want to enjoy my life. I am an avid reader and enjoy reading so much. I also like doing mindless things, art. I also have that Flora Sticker Book and a similar bk. called Birds, Bees, Butterflies ???. Got both brand new from a book catalog for 7.95 each! I really enjoyed this video. Enjoy your thoughts. Maybe like this version of g.b. better! Alot less PRESSURE! Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. With regard to glue, I find that the wet glue generally holds better than glue stick, but glue stick causes less warping of the paper. Therefore, I use whatever I feel like. 😊
I am 76 and out 4 days a week with friends and activities, no way to just sit around I give my Mondays to myself and coating, mostly greeting cards but am just dipping my toes into glue books, my start is a napkin collection from years of ladies book club suppers IF I get better want to take my collocation of favourite quotations and try running with that
57….5 grown children, 10 grandchildren (3 of which we have custody of) at 57 I thought I’d be a happy empty nester. My reality is I’m raising 3 small boys. My one want is to have the responsibilities of a person with no responsibilities. I want to sit in my craft room all day with no interruptions, and only the noise of an occasional uninterrupted movie or my favorite RUclips channels.
They do have LIVE traps. We used them successfully when we had a mouse infestation. I understand everyone does their 'thing' however somethings you shouldn't share. I watch you to relax and have fun...but this was awful. Sorry.
I am so happy to watch your creativity Wendy! I have had my youngest grandson this summer and I have been thrown off my regular routine. I do enjoy my grandkids but it’s always wonderful to have time to decompress and create, even if It’s not me (sometimes), I always feel so motivated and focused after watching you. Thank you Wendy for sharing! Sending happiness and hugs(this is what I feel after I watch you.) 💖🫶🏽🦋💖🫶🏽🦋… Also at 55 , I had planned on continuing my creative process. Exploring what I am truly passionate about(creating Art). I have spent the last 10 years with the grandchildren (watching them when their parents are working.) My grandchildren are 12,11, & 6. We are having our first granddaughter in September. My daughter in-law just asked me to watch her when she goes back to work(from maternity leave.) I told my adult kids that I wouldn’t be able to watch a baby full time(when they decided to have another baby). Yet here I am. I pray that I don’t lose the desire I have to be creative.
My daughter has three children, aged 9, 6, and a 7-month old baby. They came and stayed for five days in July and I was pooped after they left. You must have more stamina than I have. With creativity, I find that if I can keep a project out where I can see it, I can work on it for a few minutes at a time. I don't know if that works for you, but I'm praying you get lots of chances to create.
I guess at this stage of my life after major life threatening illness for years with health issues I just love the peace of reflection and contemplation. I don't want any drama. Sounds great! I'm a bit jealous of your She Shed but can't complain as I have taken over almost two rooms in my home. Enjoy decorating your shed!
I'm 52. I'm just really done with drama. I want to enjoy my family, have fun, and help others a little because selfishly I've found many answers to issues in my life by helping.😊
Well said!
This is a great idea to use a calendar. I’m brand new to a glue book but this idea feels less pressure on messing up. I’m new to your channel and appreciate your teaching and inspiration for us newbies. Hope you have a blessed day.
I"m so glad it was helpful!
I love coming here! I think a lot like you! Same age group. You are helping me out of a deep hole! Thank you!
I'm so glad! Keep climbing. 💗🌞💗
Just found this. I have an old grid calendar. I’m going to follow your example and make a collage glue book out of it. Thanks. Subscribed.
Thank-you! Have fun!
Hi Wendy, I just reached my fifties and totally agree with you. I just want to do things that I enjoy and take better care of my body.
Good for you! It requires re-thinking a lot of habits, I've found. 💖
I was a bit sorry for the mouse 🐁, but I am a city girl, so I get it 😂
❤️💙💗💜💚💛🧡🖤♥️
Thank-you for sharing your experience. It is so important to be true to yourself. I'm glad things are going well for you now. 💗💗💗
Your ideas are inspiring and love your color choices. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
A flying squirrel! Oh, my goodness. That sounds like an adventure. All the best finding your perfect job.
I want to retire at 61 really want to. I love everything craft. And love your videos!!!
Thank you! I hope you get your retirement wish. But don't wait to do what you love. 😀
Thanks, Becky!
Love the mouse story! And another lovely gluebook page.I like how you incorporate the stickers. It really ties the page together. I enjoy watching/listening to you as I do some glue booking myself - very relaxing and entertaining. Thank you Wendy.
Thanks, Sandi. 😊
Yikes! Is there a story behind your mouse phobia? Thanks for sharing, and have a happy birthday!
@@WendyDewarHughes Really don't know why I have this phobia. My kids used to have fun scaring me with their cat's toy mouse. They were laughing and I was screaming. Thank you for the birthday wishes.
@@susanstemmet607 That's awful! If it were me, I would ask God to show me how to get rid of the fear. Hugs.
Thanks so much. Have fun!
Just found and subscribed. I like hearing you talk. Your glue book page is nice.
Thank you, and welcome!
I'm so glad we found each other. 👋
I just found your channel today. I enjoyed watching your creativity 😀
Thanks so much! 😊
Love your videos! They truly are fun. I also love your chitchat. What a great idea to use calendars for a glue book. The large format would work for some of the bigger bits I’ve cut from magazines. You’ve inspired me. ❤️
Thank you so much! I like the big format too.
First time viewer, wow such fun and relaxing to watch. Can't wait to see more!
Welcome aboard! Thanks so much!
Thank you so much! I'm an artist in my "other" life.
@@WendyDewarHughes yes, that doesn’t surprise me. (I’m a professional interior designer and run my own business. ) It was quite obvious. I knew you had color and spatial sense. I love collage. I look forward to seeing more of your work. Carol
Thank-you.
Quick question... Are you using a heavier weight calendar or a light weight?
It's heavier, glossy paper.
Happy retirement! This is you time. 💖
wow beautiful! where did you get the floral stamp set?
This one? Sticker Studio: Flora: A Sticker Gallery of Beautiful Blooms: amzn.to/44TwjGj
Lisa
Thank you so much! I'll definitely have a look for those books.
@@WendyDewarHughes oh I’m glad! I’ve read them multiple times and love them more each time. Smart writing, great plot lines, and a good ending. ❤
What was the French magazine you said you get images from
It's called Marie Claire Idées.
I'm 65. I like the idea of just make something just for fun
It's not something we usually hear, right?
I enjoyed you glue book and I also enjoyed your nuggets of wisdom Crafting is a big part of my life Relationships like you are super important 👩🏻🦱🧑🦰👩👩👧👦👨👨👧👦👨👩👧👧👨❤💋👨
Thank you for subscribing! You are so right about relationships.
ohhh where'd you get that sticker book from the beginning? I WANT ONE!!!
LOL i just had to keep watching i got too excited!!!
Did you find the link?
@@WendyDewarHughes yes!
Ha ha. Your attic must have been like a clan get-together. That trap idea would qualify as the midway ride. (Okay, I'll stop now.) Thanks for sharing.
@@sherbearb.1593 Squirrels are crafty little critters!
Are we allowed to copy the same pages you make or are they only for method examples?
I am 76 and out 4 days a week with friends and activities, no way to just sit around
I give my Mondays to myself and coating, mostly greeting cards but am just dipping my toes into glue books, my start is a napkin collection from years of ladies book club suppers
IF I get better want to take my collocation of favourite quotations and try running with that
Apple put words in my mouth again, not coating , CRAFTING, greeting cards etc
Keep it up!
Life does throw curve balls sometimes, doesn't it? 💗
Oh Wendy, I forgot to ask …how do you like the square gloo stick?
I love it. It good and sticky and glides on easily. There is a link in my video descriptions if you are are interested.

Welcome!
À cat or dog çan solve the mouse problem.😊
It would, wouldn't it? But then I'd have the problem of having a dog or cat. 😆
They do have LIVE traps. We used them successfully when we had a mouse infestation.
I understand everyone does their 'thing' however somethings you shouldn't share. I watch you to relax and have fun...but this was awful. Sorry.
I'm sorry if that story didn't sit well with you. 😥
Sending happiness and hugs(this is what I feel after I watch you.) 💖🫶🏽🦋💖🫶🏽🦋…
Also at 55 , I had planned on continuing my creative process.
@@WendyDewarHughes Thank you so very much Wendy. I am going to do that, leave a project out. That is a wonderful idea.❤️🫶🏽❤️🫶🏽
