Ambient sound is CRUCIAL! I work in a dry cleaners so I need to hear what’s going on around me. As long as the sound isn’t altered too much, it’s kosher. Thanks for the recommendations. Just got the Tozo earbuds from Amazon. I'm impressed with the sound quality and the noise cancellation at this price. The fit is superb and the case is a small pill.
Sounds like Jlab really put a lot of thought into these buds. Plus an app now. Qi charging. And ambient and anc. Ambient is better for everyday use, but when noise is making things miserable, anc really comes in handy.
ANC! As a person that has destroyed my ears with loud music in all forms (I have hearing loss and tinnitus in both ears), it is important for me not have to pump up the volume super loud to cover my surrounding noise. I want to protect my ears from further damage, good ANC helps me maintain a healthy volume level and still enjoy my music.
Interesting, I thought the TOZO would sound the same as the Taotronics as they seem to have the same basic components and Airoha chipset, and both can work through the 20Decebel app (another similar TWS which lacks volume control). Wondering how you turned the ANC off on the TOZO as I read you can't do this with the touch controls, only by putting them back then taking them out of the case or by using with the 20Decebel app. My Taotronics 94 has some static on the left bud, only when ANC is turned OFF and even worse when ambient mode is turned on. it's worse than hiss, more like a cricket chirping. Also having some issues with the battery case. Will get it exchanged.
Update - TaoTronics was quick to send me a replacement. The left bud hissing issue is much improved with ANC turned off (still there but VERY faint), but can still be heard when using ambient mode. Also, on both of the units I actually find these MORE bassy when ANC is turned off. Turning on ANC causes the midbass to be emphasized more, but it actually doesn't bleed into the mids as much as when ANC is turned off.
Dude your "Top 5 Under" videos are probably the best buying guides out there. I can't wait to pop those JLabs in. Hopefully they arrive before the weekend, but I know they are worth the wait.
About your question : i think that a good ANC is more important than ambient mode. It take just a second to take off one earbuds and listen to the interlocutor, and usually for a quick, short and unexpected discussion.if not, it is better to put your earbuds away and have a Normal discussion. I would like to see another top 5 '' best sound quality'' earbuds under 50/100/150 dolars. Thank you.
Ambient sound is very important, personally, safety, when jogging, I would like to hear any up coming traffic or anything I should be aware of but not have to remove earbuds to hear.
I think the ambient mode is more important because we are always talking to the people around us, except for the times that we are in trips where the noise of the vehicle should be turned down by the help of ANC!
I honestly don't really use either. I have found that with a solid seal and great sound quality you can drown out a good majority of external noise. Plus the battery hit just isn't worth it.
great work el jefe! I ordered the jlab epic air anc and am looking forward to it! My only concern is the charging wire being so short but maybe I'll invest in a qi wireless. ANC matters the most to me, then comfort, then sound quality :)

Hey El Jefe great informative video👍. Now I've been looking for bluetooth earbuds with ambient mode. So many times I had to take out my earbuds when someone is talking to me. So I figured ambient mode will be a nice feature to have. I had a few quick questions about the tronsmart apollo bold: -Hows the fit/comfort of them in ears? -Did you notice any ear fatigue? -Are they really big in terms of earbuds size? Sorry for all the questions but I was really thinking about getting the tronsmart apollo bold.
1. They fit my ears well albeit they are large. I have large ears so this works. User experience may vary. 2. After 90 minutes minimal fatigue. 3. On the large side of TWS for sure.

I own the edifier tws nb2 and are the best ANC you can get for decent price. They are better than apple pro. Longer battery life a sound is beautiful I work and very loud environment and they do a great job in blocking the noise
My NC9'S wouldn't disconnect when back in the case and the left bud began to cutout. Got a another set and they've been perfect. Lemons do exist in the earbud world...
Ordered the Tronsmart Apollo Bold due to the flagship chip, aptx, anc, ambient mode and large driver. The only thing that's missing is the low latency mode that the Jlab has, which I would've liked. Looking forward to the EQ app this month. Love your reviews. Keep it going.
A very nicely put together comparison video. I just ordered Edifier because I like the looks of it and prefer punchy bass. Hoping that it wouldn't disappoint me. BTW it's my first experience with the wireless earbuds and your videos helped me with my choice.
Great review as always! I'm with a lot of other people who have commented so far- ambient sound above ANC. In fact, I've recently purchased a set of TWS earbuds, and in that purchase, ambient sound was on my list of must-haves. Keep those reviews coming!
Very cool video! I'm surprised that in 2020 you can already buy decent TWS buds with ANC for less then 100$ and you actually have something to choose from. Even that I do not look for ANC especially when you do not travel much in 2020, I still think that better to sucrifice ANC, transparent modes and wireless charging and get better sound emmiter for the buck. But I'm still happy that there are plenty to choose from. Awsome vid!
I use my momentum 2's for work, I hate the anc as when I use a grinder or drill the mic in the anc actually amplifies the sound. Ambient mode is essential when I need to talk to people

Idk if this is a silly question but what would you recommend the JLab Epic Air ANC or the Galaxy Buds Live, comparing them in Price and all the other stuff, assuming that JLab does address the ambient issue and release the app
I really want to go with epic air but it's not available on my country so i go with apollo , i was expecting ANC level of airpods pro on apollo but it's not close enough, it only minimize the low frequency noice but not totally eliminated, maybe a 7/10 for ANC. The fit is not that good too for typical ear size, it hurts a bit cause it doesn't go inside your ear as far as the other earbuds, only the eartips will get inside your ear and the large flat shape of the earbuds will sit outside your ear. Rather than that,everything is great . The sound is perfect for bassheads, few tweaks on EQ to balance the sound. You can consider this things if you're planning to buy apollo
Hi , really nice review. For me the most important is ambient mode because i need them for running and it's for safety. So safety first! I will also use them for calls indoors/outdoors, for movie/music and to trapsort in the subway for work. I am between Edifier tws nb2 and Soundcore Life Dot 2 NC... which one do you suggest? This will be my first ever Bluetooth earphone.

Hello El Jefe, I as thinking about dropping alot of money on the momentum 2's, but I much prefer the design of the ToZo nc9 so I might get that inside. What do you think? Are the sennheiser momentum 2's (or even the first gen) significantly better than the ToZo's (im not an audiophile by any means, but I do appreciate good sound quality)
They are better. But not $200+ better. If you want ANC, Sound Quality, and a companion app, I highly recommend the Sony WF-SP800N. Wait for the price drop. Every few weeks it drops from $200 to $148 on Amazon.
Would be nice to know the music autonomy with ambient sound switched on. For me an well implement ambient sound is best feature, along with autonomy, sound quality and controls.
Love this review (and others too) because it gives me a good perspective on what to choose for under $100 is is a well considered price in some 3rd world countries
The aptX codec alone is not enough to make a difference here. They came close and could still potentially take the top spot as soon as their app is released.
Awesome video! Which one would you recommend for strong bass, can have high volume and has a tight fit which is unlikely to fall out? I want to use them in the gym and for sports.
I recently dumped my Buds + because I got the Buds Live with my phone for free, they Buds Live are awesome. I picked up the Tronsmart Apollo's for their ANC. Wow! They are incredible for $99! ANC/Ambient is really good. The sound is on the bassy side but if that's what you like then get these. Really happy with this purchase. Only negative is the cheap plastic feel to them and to the case but again, for $99 you really can't go wrong. They're also pretty comfortable for long term usage. I'd like to see you do a head to head with the 1More TW, I think they're close!
I bought Tozo nc9 and I'm really amazed with the sound on them! The downside is that the battery time I'm getting on mine lasts only like 5h with ANC OFF! And also the portable case can only do about 1,5 full recharge them, not the 24h advertised. Should I get a replacement or is just a russian roulette and I can get a even worst pair?
Excellent roundup like always I waited so long for such a Video. For me ANC is more important. I want to buy new ANC Ones over my Lypertek Tevi because there almost dead xD. But I would like to ask you if the sound of the Apollo Bold is as good or better to your ears than the Tevi’s? Or would you say the Tozo would be a better Choice? Or would you say buy on the others? Neither sound anything like the Lypertek Tevi. Of those two options, I prefer the Apollo Bold. I would wait until they release the app as they need some EQ adjustment to control the bass.

1. Play 10 hour test music 2. Set volume to 75%. 3. One or both earbuds shut off due to low battery. 4. This shut-off stops the music so I mark that time. 5. This is how I got 6 hours and 58 minutes with ANC off.
Great insight as always! How is the charging case for the Apollo Bold by the way? Mine charges the earbuds only 1.5 times. Once it fully charges, and second charge only fills the buds halfway
And I think the mike quality test so revealing. They almost reversed your order. Certainly they turn smart ones were by far the worst in terms of microphone. I also didn’t think the J lab were particularly good. Thanks for the review and the video, very informative!

Ordered the Epics last night. Just not happy with the FIIL T1X, keep getting interruptions and the range sucks. Hoping the bass is as good in the Epics as in T1X...cuz that was the best part! I also like to see the way all the earbuds look in your ears so I can gauge how large they actually are. Thanks for all your hard work and transparency!!!
Thank you for watching. To my ear, the JLAB can match the FIIL for bass but not for clarity. At least not yet. This is why I'm waiting for the app to go public. I want to make EQ adjustments to see what these are truly cable of.

I've been bouncing around between the Jabra 75t, galaxy buds plus, and now thinking maybe go with tronsmart Apollo bold. Mostly I'll be using them doing yard work, snow removal, bike rides, and at work where I will need good hear through ability. And I've always had a hard time getting a good fit. What's your recommendation?

Agreed. I'm in the Apple Ecosystem myself so I understand the addictive nature. But the budget brands are making big moves and they continue to close the gap with the likes of Apple, Samsung, and the rest of the major brands.
Samsung galaxy buds plus are better for samsung than airpods by a mile, if you have apple airpods pro are the best, samsung galaxy buds plus are the best, that's the biggest competition
Can't decide between the Edifier or jlab- you said the jlab had white noise a bit so does that mean my music is going to sound fuzzy? Cause I really don't want that
Jefe I'd appreciate if you could put add a section talking about the type of eartips compatible with these earbuds, many times it can be tricky to find tips that fit your buds AND your ears if the ones in the box do not properly fit you
I avoid this because eartip compatibility is tricky with TWS. Tips have to be both compatible with stem size and fit into the charging case. This would add much more work to a video that already takes 20-25 hours to make. Normally, I recommend people try Spinfit and Comply tips as I've found both of those brands to be the most TWS-friendly so far.
I'll keep that in mind. I rarely compare neckband vs true wireless but considering both have ANC it might be an avenue worth exploring. Thank you for the suggestion.

It would be a waste of money. The ANC on these is 95% the strength of the top TWS on the market. The other products will get you better sound quality but not stronger ANC. If you plan on spending that much for better ANC, buy headphones and not earbuds.

I know the Tronsmart Apollo Bold have a good enough IP rating for working out. My question is, will they stay in (with the right tip size of course) for workouts? There's no ear fin or anything, so I don't know. I'm looking for buds that are good for all situations (working out, being aware of traffic, being able to order at a cafe [talk to people] without taking them out)
Loving your videos! Out of all current options right now in the sub 100 range... ANC or not, What would you say are the best options for wireless earbuds for best sound quality. I'll take a better sound quality over needing ANC but if there are some out there that are ANC and have better sound quality then why not. I'm willing to go over 100 if the sound quality is that much better. Seems like there are a ton of good options out there but in still not sure.
I ordered Taotronics 94 used it for a week and then ordered Tozo NC 9 ... I already got my Tozo NC 9 today , yet to decide which one to keep and which one to send it back to amazon...

1. T1X has cleaner tuning than both. Not better but different. But no ANC, Ambient, or extended battery life. 2. I rated Edifier #4 and Jlab #1 in this video. I think the answer is self explanatory.
Straightforward and concise.. as always.. love it dude! To ur question in the video about ambient or anc- both are important to me. But I’d say ambient may hold a slightly higher place.. because I want something I can wear all day, doing almost anything, so hearing surroundings would be important.. also if the bud already has excellent passive noise cancellation, anc may not necessarily be needed. Loving the Tronsmart Apollo Bold’s functions and capabilities.. but not so much the size of those circles and the price.. haha! I can’t wait for another company to come up with something that has similar performance but in a stealthier design for cheaper.. hehe.. Any chance ur gonna do a budget version of this video? Maybe anc and/or ambient buds under USD60?
#6, #5, and #3 are all around $60. It's tough to find decent ANC under $60. Under $50 sound quality is the focus. Soundpeats SE 3 and FIIL T1X rule that space.
EL JEFE REVIEWS thanks for the quick reply.. the flybuds (just like the jlab) have stems so not too keen. The taotronics seem the right style but not too excited about their sound. The Tozo is almost there but I’ve heard a few negatives about their ambient sound so not so keen.. I’ll just wait for now.. I’m definitely looking forward to the global version app to support the fiil T1XS.. then hopefully their solid passive noise reduction will make up for no anc.. and they will have functional ambient mode! Which is what I need right now. (I currently use half in-ears when I need to hear my surroundings.. but sound quality is sacrificed.. )
Thx for the review El Jefe. Legit question for you: if price were no object, where would the Epic Air ANC land? In my view the anc isn’t as strong as Sony (but close) but superior to AirPods Pro. Clearly I’m biased but would love your input there.
For me? No. But some people are willing to pay extra for "the best". Especially if they have the disposable income. That's not a philosophy I can relate with. I prefer bang-for-buck performance.
I have to say JLab never fails to deliver, I have most of their true wireless products and I can say that their true wireless earbuds are better than AirPods and Beats by Dre. I also own Sony WF-1000 XM4’s JLab come in 2nd place but it was JLab that introduced me to true wireless earbuds so they definitely have a special place in my heart!

All 5 of these are great to be completely honest. With a few tweaks to the Edifier Connect app and these could have easily moved up on this list.

I own the edifier tws nb2 and are the best ANC you can get for decent price. They are better than apple pro. Longer battery life a sound is beautiful I work and very loud environment and they do a great job in blocking the noise

My NC9'S wouldn't disconnect when back in the case and the left bud began to cutout. Got a another set and they've been perfect. Lemons do exist in the earbud world...

Ordered the Tronsmart Apollo Bold due to the flagship chip, aptx, anc, ambient mode and large driver. The only thing that's missing is the low latency mode that the Jlab has, which I would've liked. Looking forward to the EQ app this month. Love your reviews. Keep it going.

Very cool video! I'm surprised that in 2020 you can already buy decent TWS buds with ANC for less then 100$ and you actually have something to choose from.
Even that I do not look for ANC especially when you do not travel much in 2020, I still think that better to sucrifice ANC, transparent modes and wireless charging and get better sound emmiter for the buck.
But I'm still happy that there are plenty to choose from.

I use my momentum 2's for work, I hate the anc as when I use a grinder or drill the mic in the anc actually amplifies the sound. Ambient mode is essential when I need to talk to people
ANC only works well against certain low and mid frequencies. I can see how a grinder would be problematic for ANC earbuds.

I really want to go with epic air but it's not available on my country so i go with apollo , i was expecting ANC level of airpods pro on apollo but it's not close enough, it only minimize the low frequency noice but not totally eliminated, maybe a 7/10 for ANC. The fit is not that good too for typical ear size, it hurts a bit cause it doesn't go inside your ear as far as the other earbuds, only the eartips will get inside your ear and the large flat shape of the earbuds will sit outside your ear. Rather than that,everything is great . The sound is perfect for bassheads, few tweaks on EQ to balance the sound. You can consider this things if you're planning to buy apollo
Hi , really nice review. For me the most important is ambient mode because i need them for running and it's for safety. So safety first! I will also use them for calls indoors/outdoors, for movie/music and to trapsort in the subway for work. I am between Edifier tws nb2 and Soundcore Life Dot 2 NC... which one do you suggest? This will be my first ever Bluetooth earphone.

Hello El Jefe, I as thinking about dropping alot of money on the momentum 2's, but I much prefer the design of the ToZo nc9 so I might get that inside. What do you think? Are the sennheiser momentum 2's (or even the first gen) significantly better than the ToZo's (im not an audiophile by any means, but I do appreciate good sound quality)
They are better. But not $200+ better. If you want ANC, Sound Quality, and a companion app, I highly recommend the Sony WF-SP800N. Wait for the price drop. Every few weeks it drops from $200 to $148 on Amazon.

The aptX codec alone is not enough to make a difference here. They came close and could still potentially take the top spot as soon as their app is released.

I recently dumped my Buds + because I got the Buds Live with my phone for free, they Buds Live are awesome. I picked up the Tronsmart Apollo's for their ANC. Wow! They are incredible for $99! ANC/Ambient is really good. The sound is on the bassy side but if that's what you like then get these. Really happy with this purchase. Only negative is the cheap plastic feel to them and to the case but again, for $99 you really can't go wrong. They're also pretty comfortable for long term usage. I'd like to see you do a head to head with the 1More TW, I think they're close!
I bought Tozo nc9 and I'm really amazed with the sound on them! The downside is that the battery time I'm getting on mine lasts only like 5h with ANC OFF! And also the portable case can only do about 1,5 full recharge them, not the 24h advertised. Should I get a replacement or is just a russian roulette and I can get a even worst pair?

Neither sound anything like the Lypertek Tevi. Of those two options, I prefer the Apollo Bold. I would wait until they release the app as they need some EQ adjustment to control the bass.

1. Play 10 hour test music
2. Set volume to 75%.
3. One or both earbuds shut off due to low battery.
4. This shut-off stops the music so I mark that time.
5. This is how I got 6 hours and 58 minutes with ANC off.

Great insight as always! How is the charging case for the Apollo Bold by the way? Mine charges the earbuds only 1.5 times. Once it fully charges, and second charge only fills the buds halfway

Thank you for watching. To my ear, the JLAB can match the FIIL for bass but not for clarity. At least not yet. This is why I'm waiting for the app to go public. I want to make EQ adjustments to see what these are truly cable of.

I've been bouncing around between the Jabra 75t, galaxy buds plus, and now thinking maybe go with tronsmart Apollo bold. Mostly I'll be using them doing yard work, snow removal, bike rides, and at work where I will need good hear through ability. And I've always had a hard time getting a good fit. Agreed. I'm in the Apple Ecosystem myself so I understand the addictive nature. But the budget brands are making big moves and they continue to close the gap with the likes of Apple, Samsung, and the rest of the major brands.

No. I said the JLAB have white noise when using ambient mode.
Jefe I'd appreciate if you could put add a section talking about the type of eartips compatible with these earbuds, many times it can be tricky to find tips that fit your buds AND your ears if the ones in the box do not properly fit you
I avoid this because eartip compatibility is tricky with TWS. Tips have to be both compatible with stem size and fit into the charging case. This would add much more work to a video that already takes 20-25 hours to make.
Normally, I recommend people try Spinfit and Comply tips as I've found both of those brands to be the most TWS-friendly so far.

I'll keep that in mind. I rarely compare neckband vs true wireless but considering both have ANC it might be an avenue worth exploring. Thank you for the suggestion.

It would be a waste of money. The ANC on these is 95% the strength of the top TWS on the market. The other products will get you better sound quality but not stronger ANC. If you plan on spending that much for better ANC, buy headphones and not earbuds.

I know the Tronsmart Apollo Bold have a good enough IP rating for working out. My question is, will they stay in (with the right tip size of course) for workouts? There's no ear fin or anything, so I don't know. I'm looking for buds that are good for all situations (working out, being aware of traffic, being able to order at a cafe [talk to people] without taking them out)
This comes down to how well they fit in your ears. Unfortunately there is only one way to find out as fitment and comfort are highly subjective.

Loving your videos! Out of all current options right now in the sub 100 range... ANC or not, What would you say are the best options for wireless earbuds for best sound quality. I'll take a better sound quality over needing ANC but if there are some out there that are ANC and have better sound quality then why not. I'm willing to go over 100 if the sound quality is that much better. Seems like there are a ton of good options out there but in still not sure.

1. T1X has cleaner tuning than both. Not better but different. But no ANC, Ambient, or extended battery life.
2. I rated Edifier #4 and Jlab #1 in this video. I think the answer is self explanatory.

To ur question in the video about ambient or anc- both are important to me. But I’d say ambient may hold a slightly higher place.. because I want something I can wear all day, doing almost anything, so hearing surroundings would be important.. also if the bud already has excellent passive noise cancellation, anc may not necessarily be needed.
Loving the Tronsmart Apollo Bold’s functions and capabilities.. but not so much the size of those circles and the price.. haha! I can’t wait for another company to come up with something that has similar performance but in a stealthier design for cheaper.. hehe..

#6, #5, and #3 are all around $60. It's tough to find decent ANC under $60. Under $50 sound quality is the focus. Soundpeats SE 3 and FIIL T1X rule that space.

The Tozo is almost there but I’ve heard a few negatives about their ambient sound so not so keen.. I’ll just wait for now..
I’m definitely looking forward to the global version app to support the fiil T1XS.. then hopefully their solid passive noise reduction will make up for no anc.. and they will have functional ambient mode! Which is what I need right now. (I currently use half in-ears when I need to hear my surroundings.. but sound quality is sacrificed.. )

2. JLAB Epic Air ANC (using Cloud Foam)

For me? No. But some people are willing to pay extra for "the best". Especially if they have the disposable income. That's not a philosophy I can relate with. I prefer bang-for-buck performance.
I have to say JLab never fails to deliver, I have most of their true wireless products and I can say that their true wireless earbuds are better than AirPods and Beats by Dre. I also own Sony WF-1000 XM4’s JLab come in 2nd place but it was JLab that introduced me to true wireless earbuds so they definitely have a special place in my heart!
