it is a myth for sure, a true serve should never be thought of something going from low to high you want as much momentum/force going forward and DOWN, yes you have to hit down for the ball to go down, and this is for sure a true kick serve

It is mix with tremendous racquet head speed

My coach always said the racquet face dictates the direction. Racquet path dictates the spin.
