My mother bought a 97 Honda accord coupe ex when I was a senior in high school. She gave it to me a few years ago what an amazing fun and reliable car to drive. I sold it a few months ago because of rust but that is definitely peak honda. I bought a brand new 2002 ex civic as my first car purchase and loved that car. In 2008 I bought a 2004 Lexus Is 300 and still have it today, I love that car. Bought a 2013 Lexus gs 350 f sport back in 2016 still have it with 58,000 miles and will never get rid of it it’s in immaculate condition and garage kept. I also bought a 2013 honda accord sport which I still drive as my commuter car, I live in Frederick md but work in dc. The car is great but the cvt transmission takes away all of the high revving fun out of the car. It has 200,000 miles and drives like a dream. Turbos and hybrid are just a turn off for me until manufacturers can make them super reliable. Sorry for the long post but I’m a car nut and just wanted to share my story.
Haha! I’m glad to have found this comment & this channel! I currently drive my base model lx-s 2014 accord coupe all around Germantown, Frederick and DC! I will never get rid of her. It’s such a reliable beast; the coupe design will age very well imo, it has the impression of a modern car with none of the bells or whistle. No push to start, no touchscreen, no automatic seats, etc. very little on it even has the option to fail since there’s not much going on inside at all! My dads mid-life-crisis S2000 in the garage being pampered, waiting for some revival TLC. anything 2015 and beyond is too computer-dependent to have longevity. Let’s go Caps!!!
2000 Honda Civic owner here, car is 1 year younger than me and still drives like a dream and looks like a new car. I admit I had to get it repainted a couple years ago but that’s what happens when it sits outside for 20+ years in the California sun. And it only has 141k miles on it which is nothing for a Honda.
I'm a proud owner of a 2016 yellow Honda S660 and let me tell you... this RWD midship is a hoot to drive! Has all the Honda racing DNA basically a baby NSX while still being "environmentally friendly" sipping 4-5L/100km. Best of both worlds. Lucky to be able to have it imported in Australia. Had to get it as you said Hondas are not as fun as the 90s/00s. But this thing sure is peak Honda!
I have a 2014 si . The last one to come with Vtec. I love it. The newer si’s sound like vacuum cleaners to me. Especially with the piped in cabin engine noise from speakers. Even though the quality fell off, i’d still buy the new Fl5 type r. I don’t know if you driven one yet but those racing seats hug you. Clutch feels nice and firm and shifter feels very short throw and precise. But yes, they could bump the power up to atleast 340-350. Ofcourse, could never go wrong with a 90s or early 2000s Honda either. If I could get an Integra or another RSX or Eg coupe, i’d hold on to it. Now I even want the Honda Element lol I took them for granted back then but theyre pretty roomy and they also come in manual
My first car was a 95 Accord and I drove it to around 300k miles and parked it running. I then got the 2013 9th Gen Civic Si I still drive in 2018 and I really like the car. It's been super reliable and all I've really needed to do is basic maintenance so far. It's a K24 with around 200HP for anyone that doesn't know. I do have some rust which is a drag, but it starts every time I turn the key whether it's 110 degrees out or -10. It's been through snow storms and even a hurricane, but looking at what Honda makes right now, I don't see a single car I'd rather drive. If I had to make a list, I'd ask for more power (250HP should do it), better upholstery, Car Play/Android Auto, and better blind spot visibility. That's not a huge list for someone that's been driving a car for five years.
@@Contreramanjaro I leaned to drive manual on a 92 Accord back in the late nineties…loved that car, perfect size, smooth 5 speed…just did everything well.
The 1.5 turbocharged 2018 civic me and my wife got rid of cause its already having issues at 50k miles, we bought a 2002 accord with the legendary 2.4 engine cash it runs better which is crazy 😂
the consumer reports don't discern with minor issues vs big issues. I have a 2023 accord EX. It has buttons and knobs and a small screen. I hate when the screen is too big tbh. the 1.5 works well and it's overall a nice commuter car. I don't have to think about much while I'm driving which is all I ask for. The CVT works well and it's the 3rd generation accord with a CVT to my knowledge. I do think there should've been an NA engine option though, they're pushing for the hybrids with that.
Nobody makes reliable cars any more. Not even Toyota. Sheep say to just buy Toyota, but they have no idea what they are talking about. Also, I'm an old school Hyundai fan, but they can't build an engine any more. There's even a lifetime warranty on their 2.4 Theta II - some people are on their 3rd free engine. It's insane. These are some of the worse times in the auto industry. IMO Mazda might make the most reliable vehicles today - if you can put up with their firm rides and road noise.
@@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow Both my uncles have new Mazdas and they are both happy with them. The build quality is solid for the money and I like the interiors.
I would say the only ultra-reliable new car you can buy today is a new 2025 Mazda CX-5 S, base-trim only, which has the smoothest ride. It's the last new vehicle in the market with only 6-speed auto. It's built in Japan too.
I had 2 Accords a CA5 & a CD5. I looked at buying a CR-V but the only powertrain offered on the newer models is the L15 turbo + CVT no thanks I got a RAV4 instead.
I think 2000 was the last year when the Honda Civic was bulletproof and affordable. I wouldn't buy a modern day Honda because I grew up in the glory days of Honda in the 90's when cars were built to last. No modern day cars give me wet dreams.
Hey! The new Hondas engines are pretty reliable. They got dinged for their entertainment systems. I’m with you though that the 90s were their best. I’m still holding onto my G3 Integra. 😊
I can’t go from 99 Civic to a modern day Kia. I still don’t trust Kia long term reliability. I did want Elantra GT and Forte GT Limited at one time but nothing will compare to 90’s Honda reliability so it will be hard for me to get another car if/when my Civic ever craps out.
I have two CRV's both with the 2.5 engines. I'm keeping both b/c 1.5 are crap. They added 1.5 and put a turbo on it add's nothing but expence for parta and labor to install. I've talked to mechanics who said that many returned to be repaired. Why, b/c you have to drive them alittle differantly. Start of easy for the first few miles to get the oil up to the turbo and on top of that before shutting off let it run to "cool down'. All because they think of added gas mileage, just plain BS b/c you get no more than a few more miles per gallon and headaches down the road. A new CRV....nope not untill they go back to what really works and lasts longer. They have to stand up to this stupid EPA BS and say "we can't add anymore cost to our vehicle line without cost and shutdowns and layoffs. 😒
